Frequently, when Rob Paulsen was recording for the voice of Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask, he would receive notes from the producers and directors that Jim Carrey would do it a certain way so he should try it more the way Carrey would do it. Eventually, at the suggestion of Tim Curry, Paulsen said to them, "I'm not Jim, and I can't be Jim. The whole reason you guys got me is because you can't afford him. So if all you want is for me to be Jim, then maybe I'm the wrong guy for this part." They paused for a moment and then apologized for making him feel that way, and he never received another note of how he "wasn't doing it the way Jim would."
Unlike in the movie, Stanley Ipkiss is able to use the mask in the daytime as well as at night.
Rob Paulsen, who provided the voice of Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask, also provided the voice of Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask in the Ace Ventura, Pet Detective animated episode Have Mask, Will Travel (1997). Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1995) was also based on a Jim Carrey movie.
The theme song was sung by Rob Paulsen and later used in the opening of his podcast, "Talkin' Toons".
