Look, far be it from me to tell a young, diverse, and predominantly non-male group of horror-movie protagonists what to do. But if I were ever in a situation that involved dabbling with the supernatural in highly creepy settings while also breaking long-established rules involved with the aforementioned dabbling, I would simply not do that. Of course, there wouldn't be a movie for us to talk about here in that hypothetical, but that ain't my problem!
For better or worse (you can probably guess which one it is), nobody involved with the production of "Tarot" bothered to listen to my advice. For this group of college kids who committed the faux pas of all faux pas by messing with a tarot deck that wasn't theirs to begin with, the end result was ... pretty messy, to put it mildly. Exclusive: Amazon MGM’s Head of Specialty Theatrical Distribution, Mark Boxer, was among the notables cuts yesterday at the streaming theatrical studio.
Among some of Boxer’s highlights at Amazon, he oversaw the specialty theatrical releases of such Oscar nominated titles as Being the Ricardos, Poland’s 2018 International film entry Cold War, and 2x Oscar winner Sound of Metal.
With Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, Boxer was a key suit in getting Ben Affleck’s Air into theaters. He was also recently involved in the successful release strategies for awards season titles Saltburn, The Boys in the Boat and American Fiction.
During the pandemic, Boxer also handled the theatrical distribution of such big Prime Video acquisition titles, Coming 2 America, Cinderella, Hotel Transylvania 4, and The Tomorrow War to those cinemas and drive-ins that were lucky to be open.

Movie stars' careers in Hollywood can be unpredictable, with some actors not meeting their full potential due to financial flops or poor reception. Success in the film industry is not limited to big movie careers, as actors can find acclaim in TV series or other smaller roles. From Liam Hemsworth to Shailene Woodley, several A-list movie careers have been short-lived, regardless of the actors' talent.
Movie stars constantly come and go in Hollywood, with some that showed great promise never really meeting their full career potential. In the bigger picture of the film industry machine, film actors are a small piece, and can often be cast out of starring roles to no fault of their own. Whether a movie flops financially or the actor's performance is not well received, an actor with tons of potential can quickly run out of chances to prove themselves to Hollywood.
Of course, there is success beyond a movie career.

The Irish accent is consistently voted one of the most attractive in the world, yet even some of the world’s finest actors have trouble with it. Leonardo DiCaprio tried, as did Julia Roberts (twice), and dare we even mention Brad Pitt?
Today (17 March) marks St Patrick’s Day, and if you have no pub and/or beer plans, why not experience the next best thing: reminiscing about the wonkiest Irish accents in film history.
Relatively new to this great lineage of bad accents is Wild Mountain Thyme, a romantic drama released in the UK in early 2021 and so inexplicable that even literal Irish actors seemed to speak with fake Irish accents in it.
Such is the evil power of this particular bit of fakery, though – Hollywood’s bastardised visions of Ireland so all-encompassing and destructive that few can survive it.

Driver, 52, said that inside the room was a male director and more than a dozen people, mostly men from an ad agency. She said she received no script for the commercial. Chris Pratt couldn't help but gush about his Passengers costar Jennifer Lawrence when he stopped by Good Morning America on Wednesday. Aside from revealing the reason he's been hilariously cropping her out of photos during their press tour ("She doesn't really know what's going on"), he also took a moment to chat about their close friendship. When he was asked to describe his favorite part about Jennifer from Jennifer herself, he joked, "She's beautiful on the inside," before revealing he loves her sense of humor. And the compliments certainly weren't one-sided. Host Michael Strahan said that Jen had nothing but kind words to say about him as well, calling him "an incredibly talented actor." In the late '90s, English ingénue Minnie Driver was everywhere. After her breakout role in the charming romantic drama Circle of Friends, she tackled comedy with John Cusack in Grosse Pointe Blank. She won an Oscar nod for her heartbreaking turn opposite Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting, and she lent her voice to the plucky Jane in Disney's animated Tarzan. But in the 2000s, Driver largely took to television, offering memorable roles in sitcoms like Will & Grace and drama series like The Riches. But 2013 seems to mark a return to film for Driver, as she's recently wrapped on the horror musical Stage Fright and the promising looking rom-com I Give It a Year. And that's not all. THR has discovered Driver will headline a new indie drama called Return to Zero, which roll into production in Los Angeles this week. And from the sound of it, this ...

You’d be forgiven for confusing Private Peaceful with one of this year’s Best Picture nominees at the Academy Awards. Both are based on a Michael Morpurgo novel that was adapted into a successful stage play. Both feature sun-dappled depictions of rural England, decidedly dodgy ’Westcountry’ accents and a sentimental, yet powerful take on the horrors of the First World War. Both include talented young British actors alongside solid veterans.

Pat O’Connor (Circle of Friends, Dancing at Lughnasa) is a reliable pair of hands, but his first film in 11 years has more in common with the gentle, Goodnight Mister Tom school of period dramas than big-budget, Oscar-bait epics.

If there are any filmmakers who’ve worked their way through record stores as much as folks like Quentin Tarantino or even Wes Anderson, it would have to be John Hughes and Allan Moyle. So perhaps it’s no real surprise that on annual Record Store Day, where you can come out and support your local independent record stores on April 21st this year, there will be soundtrack reissues from both filmmakers.
First is Hughes’ “The Breakfast Club,” which will surely find many record enthusiasts doing some Judd Hirsch-style fist pumping as they pick up their all-white 12-inch vinyl pressing of the album. It’s hard to capture an entire mood of a film with a single soundtrack, especially when that film lingers on a dreary Saturday spent in detention with a few high school students looking to find themselves like in “The Breakfast Club,” but between the seminal...

Michael Morpurgo, despite being an acclaimed author hasn’t found many of his novels being requested to receive the transition from book to movie. However, with Steven Spielberg having taken on the adaptation of his much celebrated novel War Horse, set to release this Christmas, it seems developers are starting to take a more in depth look at his portfolio.
The Playlist reports that his 2003 book Private Peaceful, is going to be transferred to the big screen and it seems almost everyone involved aren’t particularly well known, (excluding the author himself – no news on whether he will decide to play a part in the movie’s production himself) although lots of the names involved may ring a bell for you.
Helmed by Pat O’Connor (Sweet November, Circle of Friends) and written by Simon Reade, it shall feature Jack O’Connell, George Mackay and Alexandra Roach in the starring roles.

The front runner for this year’s Best Actor Oscar, Colin Firth of The King’s Speech, fondly remembers his time in Ireland filming a small part in Circle of Friends, the film adaptation of Maeve Binchy’s best-selling book that starred Minnie Driver and Chris O’Donnell. "I had a minor role in Circle of Friends, which was filmed in Kilkenny and directed by one of my closest friends, Pat O'Connor,” Firth told the Irish Independent during a promo chat for The King’s Speech, why by the way is the top grossing film in Ireland since the New Year. "I only had a small part in the film, meaning there was no burden at all, so it was all a playground for me. I had a very young son with me, so it was a lovely countryside region to be in with a child. “There were sessions every Monday night in Thomastown,...

Last week HeyUGuys were invited to attend the Alfred Dunhill BAFTA A Life in Pictures event and in an extended interview on stage at BAFTA Headquarters along with critic, writer and broadcaster Francine Stock, was BAFTA Award Winner and Academy Award Nominee Colin Firth. Greeted with rapturous applause, Firth’s appearance had the audience on tenterhooks as we were privy to a thoroughly engaging evening dedicated to one of Britain’s most respected, versatile and beloved actors.
Having appeared in a variety of critically-acclaimed television, film and theatre productions, Firth’s career shows no signs of slowing down at the age of 50. Much like a fine wine, his body of work just keeps on getting better and better. From his humble family roots in Grayshott, Hampshire, Firth’s journey into acting began as a sprightly 5 year old, whose determination to act was made touchingly clear by his penchant for playing...

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.
A couple of columns ago we wrote about the British women we wish were gay, which gave rise to much debate and informed us that our readers lust after and loathe Cheryl Cole in equal amounts. We decided that in this column we’d like to celebrate the British ladies we’re glad actually are gay or bisexual, which has been an unexpectedly tricky task.
Once again we sent out a Tweet asking you to suggest your favourite Britbians, and as the land that proffered Skins, Tipping the Velvet and Bad Girls, we were certain that Britain would have so many options that we’d be tossing second tier choices out of the list...

"The only thing that works is sleep and food," asserts Saffron Burrows when asked how she maintains her stamina during the 15-to-16-hour shooting days for her role on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." "I eat like Michael Phelps," meaning she consumes a great deal—including meat, which represents a major culinary shift for her. She was a vegetarian for 25 years. "As a kid, I felt you don't eat anything you wouldn't kill yourself." The steak habit was re-launched when she was shooting Amy Redford's "The Guitar." Her character was a beef eater, and Burrows decided to relinquish her vegetarianism for the film; then, she says, "I let my morals go." She laughs between bites of—no, not hamburger and french fries—salad and sushi in her spacious dressing room at New York's Chelsea Piers, where the TV series is shot. Burrows has recently come on board the 9-year-old show to play Detective Serena Stevens,...

The actor's fame was assured in a clinging wet shirt in Pride and Prejudice and now he has an Oscar nomination for his starring role in A Single Man. His true passion, however, is far removed from the trappings of stardom
The idea of being a minority taste appealed to Colin Firth. It was a comfortable place to be. There would be fans around, of course, but not banks of adoring hoi polloi lining the pavement when he went out for a stroll.
"There are some actors who, wherever they go, people show up because they think they are fantastic," he once mused. "Then there are slightly marginalised people who are like somebody's secret. I feel like a Second Division football team that has this following who are more into it for the fellowship of each other."
