Exclusive: Oscar nominee Tim Roth has become the latest high-profile name to join the cast of Netflix’s Peaky Blinders movie which continues to shape up as quite an event. The prolific English actor will join star Cillian Murphy as well as Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan in the Tom Harper-directed and highly-anticipated feature extension of the BAFTA-winning series.

Details of Roth’s role are being kept under wraps, much as those of Ferguson and Keoghan, which Deadline has exclusively reported on in the past several weeks.

Oscar-winner Murphy is returning to the iconic role of Tommy Shelby, leader of the eponymous Birmingham gangster family. Production on the feature will begin before the year is out.

Indie veterans Future Islands have returned with their seventh studio album, People Who Aren’t There Anymore.

People Who Aren’t There Anymore — which we named as one of the most anticipated albums of 2024 — finds the synth-pop quartet exploring an even moodier palate than prior records. It was produced by the band alongside previous collaborator Steve Wright, and mixed by indie veteran Chris Coady, who produced Future Islands’ breakout 2014 album Singles.

To celebrate the release of People Who Aren’t There Anymore, Future Islands performed “The Tower” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday Night.

People Who Aren’t There Anymore is the group’s first album since 2020’s As Long as You Are, but they haven’t exactly stayed quiet since its release. Future Islands initially previewed People Who Aren’t There Anymore by offering “Peach” back in 2021, “King of Sweden” in 2022, and last August’s “Deep in the Night.

Update: By Saturday afternoon up to five buyers were understood to be in serious discussions for Jeff Zimbalist’s documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story.

The film caused a stir ever since it premiered on Thursday night and hails from XYZ Films’ documentary division. Sources reported streamers and at least one theatrical buyer were in pursuit.

Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig and Eddie Marsan are among the names joining Anne-Marie Duff on season 2 of Channel 4 and BritBox International drama series Suspect.

Filming on the drama’s second run is underway, with Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point, The Lazarus Project), Celine Buckens (Showtrial, The Ex-Wife), Nicholas Pinnock (Top Boy, For Life) and Gina McKee (Bodyguard, Our Friends in the North) joining Cooper (Preacher, Mamma Mia!), Greig (Friday Night Dinner, Belgravia) and Marsan.

Duff stars in the series as Dr Susannah Newman. In the eight-part series, she is on a desperate quest to track down a self-confessed serial killer before he kills again that night. When a mysterious new client Jon (Cooper) admits under hypnosis that he is a murderer and intends on killing another young female that evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs.

Future Islands have readied their seventh studio album, People Who Aren’t There Anymore. The full project arrives January 26th, while new single “The Tower” is out now.

The follow-up to 2020’s As Long as You Are, People Who Aren’t There Anymore was produced by Future Islands alongside Steve Wright, while Wright mixed the project with Chris Coady. It arrives on CD, cassette, standard black vinyl, transparent vinyl, and yellow and black “yolk” vinyl that features alternative artwork. Pre-orders are ongoing.

New track “The Tower” begins with almost understated synths before building to the type of shimmering chorus Future Islands are known for. “Threw a bottle across the water/ To someone who’s thinking of me,” Samuel Herring sings. In its brooding music video, directed by Johnathan Van Tulleken, he does just that, as he and bandmates William Cashion, Gerrit Welmers, and Michael Lowry walk across a deserted beach.

There’s food porn, which shows like Chef’s Table and Top Chef, not to mention last year’s horror hit movie The Menu, have turned into widely popular entertainment. And then there’s art house food porn, a subgenre that possibly dates back to Marco Ferreri’s 1973 satire La Grande Bouffe, and whose other examples include Babette’s Feast, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, Tampopo, Chocolat and Like Water for Chocolate. Conan O'Brien Must Go is described as a new international travel series.

The four-episode series is currently in production and will feature O'Brien visiting new friends he's met through his podcast, "Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan," where he dives deep with listeners from across the country and the world.

BritBox is hoping to carve out a niche for Anglo-centric programming in the U.S. and its boss has taken a particularly British swipe at rival streamers for their attempts.

Opening the streaming service’s virtual TCA panel, CEO Reemah Sakaan took aim.

Directors Guild of America President Thomas Schlamme today announced the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2017. “Directors are driving the push to more distinctive television, eye-catching commercials and powerful documentaries,” said Schlamme in an official statement. “From 30-second spots to multi-hour mini-series, the nominees across these nine categories are leading that charge. We are proud to honor the tremendous range of excellence found in the projects nominated today.”
