Ethan Embry may only be 46 years old, but he has 35 years of acting credits to his name, having worked on more than 100 different projects. And now he’s set to cross paths with Ghostface, as Deadline reports that he has joined the cast of Scream 7!
Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. But then Ortega allegedly asked for a substantial pay raise – and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. Landon dropped out the of the project soon after.

In the late 90s, the ultimate “It girl” was Jennifer Love Hewitt. The actress started young in movies like Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and House Arrest. She would then breakthrough with her role as Sarah in the successful Fox drama series Party of Five. That show led to movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Can’t Hardly Wait. She became a 90s sex symbol as she donned the cover of magazines, crossed over into the music business as a singer and became the spokesperson for Neutrogena skin care.
US Weekly reports that Hewitt recently appeared on the Breakdown podcast with fellow 90s child star, Mayim Bialik. The Party of Five star looked back at her time as a sex symbol and recalled,
In my 30s, I sort of went back and looked at that time again and I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ There...

Just miles from Hollywood, nestled in the San Gabriel Valley, lies the town of Altadena, which was decimated by the Eaton Fire. Among the thousands of structures burnt down were a number of historic buildings used in movies and TV series.
As the area reopened two weeks after the disaster hit, Deadline was able to survey some of the destruction. Below is a photo record of what is left of the famous buildings, along with pictures of what they looked like before the fire, including images of how they will be remembered from scenes in films and TV shows.
The houses lost include the mansion seen on Max’s award-winning comedy series Hacks, a 1915 Spanish Colonial Revival, with only its facade still standing.
Also destroyed are the Altadena Town & Country Club, seen in Mad Men, Starsky & Hutch, Van Wilder and The Wonder Years; the Eliot Arts Magnet Academy School...

This weekend brings Kyle Mooney's feature directorial debut "Y2K" to theaters, after the horror comedy made its debut at the South by Southwest film festival earlier in 2024 (read our review). Taking cues from high school party movies like "Can't Hardly Wait" and mixing them with late '90s horror movies like "The Faculty" and dated technological thrillers like "Lawnmower Man," the film finds a group of teens facing an apocalyptic scenario in which technological devices like clunky computers, VCRs, Discmans, and Tamagotchis suddenly form into deadly creatures hellbent on taking over society. Basically, it's the worst case scenario that imagines what the world might have been like if Y2K turned out to be a legitimate threat.
At the center of the movie are best friends Eli (Jaeden Martell of "It") and Danny (Julian Dennison of "Deadpool 2"). While both are a bit socially awkward and into their own geeky tendencies,...

New Year’s Eve felt a bit different in 1999. Not simply because it was a different time but because of the pesky “year 2000 problem” that’s more commonly referred to as Y2K. The world anticipated global computer system failures that would cause the shutdown of technology everywhere, including power. It created a widespread panic that entailed people prepping for an actual apocalypse. Except, once the clock struck midnight, nothing happened. The computers adjusted just fine, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, and the world moved on in a blink.
Y2K director/co-writer Kyle Mooney and co-writer Evan Winter imagine what could’ve happened had the Y2K bug actually triggered catastrophe, marrying an apocalyptic horror movie with a raucously entertaining teen comedy.
Mooney, a millennial making his directorial feature debut with Y2K, remembers that specific point in time well. He recalls, “I mean, it was just such a disappointment.

When Dave and John Chernin were kids, their next-door neighbor threw a rager. “I remember me and Dave sitting by a window with the lights off just looking into the backyard at this raging high school house party next door thinking that is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen,” John tells Tudum. Two decades later, the writer-director brothers are throwing their own party — and you’re invited.

The Chernins love high school comedies — they cite such wide-ranging influences as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Can’t Hardly Wait, and Superbad — and were eager to put their own stamp on the genre. “We always wanted to write a high school movie,” Dave says. “So for 15-plus years we’ve been kicking around the idea of a...

After making his feature writing debut with Brigsby Bear, Kyle Mooney has now made his directorial debut with Y2K, a disaster comedy which brings together Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, and Julian Dennison. Set on the last night of 1999, the SXSW premiere follows two high school juniors who crash a New Years Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives. Ahead of a December 6 release from A24, the first trailer has now arrived.
John Fink said in his SXSW review, “A disaster horror comedy that’s equal parts Can’t Hardly Wait and Idle Hands, Kyle Mooney’s directorial debut Y2K is often hilariously sincere in its depiction of social and technological anxieties from the tail end of 1999. Mooney remembers all too well a world where promises of connectivity had not quite caught up with the technology. For those that were not ’90s kids, your mileage may vary...

Netflix has just released the trailer for the new raunchy high school comedy from the Chernin brothers — Dave Chernin and John Chernin — who are veterans of irreverent shows It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the tragically cut-short Fox sitcom The Mick. The Chernins reunite with The Mick‘s Kaitlin Olson and Thomas Barbusca in Incoming. The cast includes Mason Thames, Ramon Reed, Raphael Alejandro, Isabella Ferreira, Bardia Seiri, Loren Gray, Ali Gallo, Scott MacArthur, Thomas Barbusca, Kim Hawthorne, Victoria Moroles, Kayvan Shai, with Kaitlin Olson and Bobby Cannavale.
The short but sweet synopsis reads,
“Incoming is the story of one night in the life of a group of high school freshmen, the party they crash, and the chaos that ensues.”
Dave and John Chernin write and direct the film. The producers on the movie include Nicholas Stoller, Conor Welch, Todd Garner, Mark Korshak, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Peter Principato and Ben Silverman.

Jennifer Love Hewitt loves the holiday season, and she's had tremendous success in her collaborations with Lifetime.
So who better to direct, produce, and star in a Christmas flick for the network's 2024 It’s a Wonderful Lifetime movie slate?
Deadline reported today that Hewitt will be pulling triple duty on a Yuletide flick with the working title of The Holiday Junkie.
The project is a personal one for Hewitt, as it's inspired in part by her love of the holiday season, as well as the loss of her mother, who passed away in 2012.
Additionally, Hewitt's husband, Brian Hallisay, will be co-starring, and the couple's children will also appear in the film.
“To be able to direct and be in this movie with my husband is such a special opportunity. And to be back home with Lifetime feels as right as Christmas magic!” Hewitt said, in a statement issued to Deadline.

It’s graduation night, and for the students at Huntington Hills High School, there’s one last hurrah before going off to college. The 1998 comedy Can’t Hardly Wait carried on the tradition of John Hughes 80s classics with ageless themes of longing, alienation, optimism and fear amongst teenage angst as they all come crashing together at a house party. The movie was also a big follow-up for the star Jennifer Love Hewitt, who became the 90s “It Girl” after starring in Party of Five and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Sony has now announced the all-new 4K UltraHD Blu-ray release of Can’t Hardly Wait, which is set to be released on August 20. The studio has released all the details and specs that will be included in this new Blu-ray.
The official synopsis reads,

Oh, Canada debuting this week on the Croisette is high time to see lesser-seen Schrader on the Criterion Channel, who’ll debut an 11-title series including the likes of Touch, The Canyons, and Patty Hearst, while Old Boyfriends (written with his brother Leonard) and his own “Adventures in Moviegoing” are also programmed. Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, who is known for her work in films such as ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, ‘Can’t Hardly Wait’ and ‘The Tuxedo’ among others, spoke about how she was sexualised as a teenager and the difficulties of aging in Hollywood.
Finding fame at such a young age came with its difficulties, and she opened up about her feelings during that time while speaking on ‘Inside of You’ podcast, reports deadline.com.
“I felt watched. I felt like I had to be everything for everybody all the time,” Hewitt said.
“I was called sexy before I ever knew what being sexy was. I was 17-years-old on the cover of Maxim, and I had no idea why.”
Hewitt also noted that she finds it “weird” when people want her to continue being the girl that she was back then, adding: “That girl was so insecure and so confused.

We can all picture Jennifer Love Hewitt in her big screen breakout role, screaming, “What are you waiting for?!” And that’s not too far off from what she thinks about reprising some of her most memorable characters: Julie James in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Melinda Gordon in Ghost Whisperer.
Appearing on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum (via Screen Rant), Jennifer Love Hewitt showed an interest in returning to her most beloved characters if the opportunities ever came up. On Julie James — the protagonist of the first two I Know What You Did Last Summer movies who helped Jlh give Neve Campbell a run for her money in the late ‘90s as the reigning scream queen — she said she would “one hundred percent” be on board. “Yeah. I loved making those movies.” Now here’s hoping she and Freddie Prinze Jr. can return for a fourth installment.

Secondary characters in romantic comedies often steal the spotlight and have their own engaging stories. Some side characters in rom-coms are given their own romances, which can be just as interesting and entertaining as the main couple. Secondary pairs in rom-coms can provide a fresh perspective on relationships and offer a different look at love.
Romantic comedies often focus on just one couple, but many have secondary pairs that are as good as the main one or even better. The formula of rom-coms consists of lighthearted stories with a good dose of humor and a touch of drama (with some relying more on the former than the latter), through which these movies show how true love can overcome anything (though there have also been movies that challenge this cliché ending). The main characters are often accompanied by their best friends or people close to them who give them support through their many ups and downs,...

Many rom-com couples are actually toxic for each other, but their flaws are often overlooked under the premise of "love wins." Some rom-com couples, like Amanda and Preston in "Can't Hardly Wait," are based on infatuation rather than genuine love and connection. In movies like "The Breakfast Club," couples like Claire and John end up together despite a history of bullying and disrespect, making their relationship hard to root for.
Romantic comedies are all about successful love stories, but there are many couples in this genre that are actually pretty toxic for each other. As the name says, romantic comedies are a heartwarming blend of love stories and comedy, more often than not with hints of drama here and there to make them more engaging. "Not Another Teen Movie" is a spoof of popular teen comedies from the '80s and '90s, exaggerating and satirizing their plotlines and characters. The movie references specific films like "She's All That," "Can't Hardly Wait," "10 Things I Hate About You," "Varsity Blues," "Pretty in Pink," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "American Pie," and "Bring It On" through its plot, characters, and scenes. The film features cameos from actors who starred in the parodied movies, including Molly Ringwald, Melissa Joan Hart, Sean Patrick Thomas, and others. It also includes Easter eggs and references to other iconic teen movies like "The Breakfast Club," "Never Been Kissed," "Cruel Intentions," and more.

Like so many other Replacements fans, no doubt, the first thing I did with the new version of Tim was skip right to “Left of the Dial.” One of those “bury my soul in these guitars” songs that any music fan collects over time. It’s a highlight of the classic 1985 album from four Minnesota punk boys, the great American rock band of the Eighties. “Left of the Dial” is the Replacement’s most heart-on-fire confession, a rager about losing your friends over time, missing them over the miles, until...

The Replacements are celebrating their 1985 major label debut Tim with a new deluxe reissue titled Tim: Let It Bleed Edition, out now via Rhino.
Clocking in at 65 tracks, Tim: Let It Bleed Edition begins with a long-awaited fresh mix of the original album. The Replacements were never happy with producer Tommy Ramone’s final mix of Tim, so they enlisted Ramones and Talking Heads collaborator Ed Stasium — who was considered to co-produce the LP with Ramone back in the day — to revamp the record for Disc One. A remastered version of Ramone’s original mix follows on Disc Two.
Disc Three, entitled Sons of No One: Rare & Unreleased, features previously unreleased Replacements demos, including tracks from a January 1985 recording session led by the band’s hero, Big Star’s Alex Chilton. Disc Four, Not Ready for Prime Time, wraps up the reissue with a live recording of the group’s January 11th,...

Bottoms is a unique and self-aware teen sex comedy that features LGBTQ+ women as its leads, subverting genre tropes in an exaggerated high-school world. Other classic and contemporary teen sex comedies like American Pie, The To-Do List, and Can't Hardly Wait capture the spirit and humor of "Bottoms" in their own ways. Films like Booksmart, Superbad, and Blockers offer a fresh and feminist take on the genre, showcasing strong performances and subverting traditional tropes.
Viewers who are still reeling from the frenetic energy of Bottoms won't find another movie out there about a lesbian fight club, but they can fill the void with some other great teen sex comedies. With a screenplay from Shiva Baby duo Emma Seligman, who also directs, and Rachel Sennott, Bottoms chronicles best pals Pj (Sennott) and Josie's (The Bear's Ayo Edebiri) attempts to impress - and hook up with - their cheerleader crushes before high school ends.

The Replacements are about to celebrate their 1985 major label debut Tim with the upcoming deluxe edition Tim: Let It Bleed Edition. But before that’s out September 22nd, they’ve shared a preview with an alternate version of their hit “Can’t Hardly Wait” that features some prominent cello shredding.
Frontman Paul Westerberg had always wanted to experiment with the recording of “Can’t Hardly Wait.” Upon writing it in 1984, he made an acoustic guide track — recorded in the cavernous Nicollet Studios, which had once been a movie theater — and then record a full-band version over it. However, the band couldn’t hear the guide track over their instruments, so they decided to record a more standard rock version of the song.
But that wasn’t exactly what Westerberg had in mind. So the next day, he decided to enlist the studio’s receptionist, Michelle Kinney, a trained cellist active in the...

Rosario Dawson’s starring role in Disney+’s Ahsoka, premiering Aug. 22 and based on a character from Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, is not her first time bringing an animated figure to life — she played bassist Valerie Brown in Universal-MGM’s Josie and the Pussycats, the directorial debut of Can’t Hardly Wait screenwriters Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan.
Based on the Archie Comics series that spawned the 1970s cartoon, the 2001 film centers on a female pop-rock group plucked from obscurity in Riverdale. Tara Reid, then 24, was cast first as drummer Melody Valentine following her turn in American Pie. Rachael Leigh Cook (She’s All That), 19, nabbed the part of frontwoman Josie McCoy over Zooey Deschanel and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
For Val, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds — who produced the gold-selling soundtrack — encouraged the filmmakers to consider a music star, and Aaliyah, TLC’s Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Beyoncé were among those to audition.

As kids and adults alike, millions of people dream of becoming movie stars. For some actors who make it, though, success on the big screen isn’t everything it’s built up to be. And while most still choose to stay, some stars leave Hollywood to pursue other careers. One such example is Charlie Korsmo, who played the son of Robin Williams’ character in Hook.
Korsmo’s face may be familiar to those who grew up in the 90s. The child star also appeared in movies like Dick Tracy. However, the actor’s career in Hollywood was short-lived, retiring from acting at a young age. Instead, Korsmo pursued a career in academia and is now a successful law professor.

When "Yellowjackets" debuted on Showtime at the end of 2021, it didn't take long for the world to get addictively stung by the multi-timeline cannibal thriller. The series tells the story of the 1996 state champion women's soccer team from Wiskayok High School after their plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness on the way to their national tournament, stranding the teens to fend for themselves for 19 months. The show simultaneously explores the lives of some of the survivors of the crash 25 years later, as they struggle to adjust to a normal existence after the world assumes they had resorted to cannibalism for survival all those years before. Oh, and there's that whole "Lottie Matthews started a cult" thing.
At the end of season 1, the only survivors we knew about were Shauna Sadecki (Melanie Lynskey), Misty Quigley (Christina Ricci), Taissa Turner (Tawny Cypress), Nat Scatorccio (Juliette Lewis), and an unseen Lottie Matthews. Multiple...

Jennifer Love Hewitt was one of the biggest teen stars of the nineties. First making a splash on Party of Five, she parlayed that success into a solid career in features, leading the teen horror slasher classic I Know What You Did Last Summer (as well as its less beloved sequel), the comedy cult classic Can’t Hardly Wait. Her fame carried over into the 2000s, with her showing impeccable comic timing in the underrated Heartbreakers opposite Sigourney Weaver, Gene Hackman, and the late Ray Lotta. She even teamed up with Jackie Chan in The Tuxedo. She also starred in not one but two Garfield movies (in which Bill Murray voiced the titular feline) and also had a role opposite Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin in the notoriously troubled Shortcut to Happiness, in which she played a sexy version of the devil.

A new set of first-look images from Yellowjackets season 2 reveals the adult Van. The series, which premiered on Showtime last year, takes place in two different timelines following a group of teenagers attempting to survive the Canadian winter after crash landing in the wilderness in 1996. The show splits its time between this timeline and that of the present where it explores the lives of the surviving members of the eponymous soccer team. The fate of Liv Hewson's teen character Van (who is the love interest of Jasmine Savoy Brown's Taissa) wasn't revealed in season 1, but Yellowjackets season 2 - which begins airing in March 2023 - will introduce adult Van along with bumping up Hewson to a series regular for the teen storyline.

It’s almost the end of another year…another grueling, relentless, shuffle around the pitiless sun. But before that: more content! HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2022 is filled with a handful of exciting original TV series.
December 2022 truly is TV’s time to shine on HBO Max. Things get started on day one with the release of Gossip Girl season 2 (Dec. 1). That will be followed by His Dark Materials on Dec. 5. Adapting The Amber Spyglass, this season promises to be the most action-packed yet for the BBC/HBO fantasy collaboration. December 8 sees the arrival of Doom Patrol season 4. This DC comic property doesn’t have the cultural cache of some of its CW contemporaries but when it’s rolling, it might be one of the best comic series around.
Now that Warner has mostly scuttled its simultaneous streaming/theatrical release strategy, there aren’t many big original movies to speak of.
