Herman Rush, a prominent television pioneer and former president of Columbia Pictures Television, died of natural causes in Los Angeles on Dec. 12. He was 94.

Rush got his start in the television industry in 1951 as a salesman at Official Films. In 1957, he acquired television syndication firm Flamingo Films, which he turned into a major independent syndication company. Rush also had an extensive career as head of the talent division at the agency Creative Management Associates, where he worked from 1960-1971.

In the late 1960s, Rush acquired the popular British sitcom “Till Death To Us Part” from Lord Lew Grade. He sold the intellectual property to the late television titan Norman Lear, who turned that show into “All in the Family.” The hit sitcom starring Caroll O’Connor ran for nine seasons on CBS. Rush also imported, repackaged and produced multiple BBC comedy television series including “For the Love of Ada” and “Love Thy Neighbor.

Rush died on Dec. 12 of natural causes in Los Angeles, his daughter Mandie told The Hollywood Reporter.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1929, Rush grew up in a show-business family, with his uncle Manie Sacks being Frank Sinatra’s first manager.

In 1951, Rush began his career in television, working first as a salesman for Official Film before moving up to several different leadership positions. He later purchased Flamingo Films, a television syndication firm, in 1957 and turned it into a major independent syndication company.

Throughout the ’60s and early ’70s, he was with Creative Management Associates as the president of the television division. He also worked for CMA’s predecessor organization, General Artists Corporation, now known as International Creative Management, and played a huge role in the agency’s entry into television packaging.

Variety’s fourth annual “Variety Salute to Service” special, airing on the History Channel on Veterans Day, honors contributions and sacrifices by veterans. This year’s special is hosted by Marine Corps and Navy veteran Montel Williams, former host of “The Montel Williams Show” and current host of “Military Makeover With Montel.”

The special highlights veterans making an impact on their communities after service. “We’re featuring some really, really class act veterans who, though they took their uniforms off, are still serving in some capacity right now — their communities and nation at large,” Williams tells Variety.

Los Angeles police are looking for the suspect who altered the iconic Hollywood sign to read “Hollyweed” on New Year’s Eve, according to multiple reports.

On social media user uploaded a photo of the altered sign to Twitter, writing, “Hollyweed!!! I think security took the night off last night in Hollywood.”

Sgt. Robert Payan with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Security Services told Variety that officers stationed above the sign over night did not see the vandals.

Police have identified the group of teens behind the horrifying Ice Bucket Challenge criminal prank, in which teens dumped a bucket of urine, cigarette butts, spit and feces on an autistic classmate.

As the Als Ice Bucket Challenge continues to raise money for a good cause, one 15-year-old autistic boy from Ohio was subject to a cruel “prank,” where classmates poured feces and urine on him instead of ice water. They reportedly recorded the entire thing on the boy’s own cell phone and uploaded it to Instagram. The video went viral before the intentions behind the video became clear. It has since been removed from the photo-sharing site, but the video can still be found on the web at the request of the boy's parents, who wish for the video to be an rallying cry against bullying.

According to a post on Browne's Facebook page, Browne died Wednesday morning in San Jose, Calif.

According to TMZ, former talk show host Montel Williams was recently spotted getting busted with a marijuana pipe at an airport in Milwaukee yesterday. They say that Tsa busted Montel for carrying a metal pipe that is commonly used to smoke marijuana as he went through the security line. The pipe was located in his carry on bag,and it set off a metal detector. There was no residue found on the pipe. Apparently, Montel is a long time advocate of medical marijuana because he uses it to manage pain related to multiple sclerosis. Montel was eventually released from custody after paying a $484 citation for possession of drug paraphenalia.
