Eisenberg spent more than two decades in two stints at the fabled animation house Hanna-Barbera Productions and worked for Ruby-Spears Productions, Marvel and other companies during his remarkable six-decade career.

What do you do when the last spinoff of your favorite Canadian sci-fi show ended ages ago and you've worn out your DVD box set rewatching it? If you're as obsessive as I am about my favorite franchises, you might just want to catch up with all the show's stars in their most recent projects. Luckily, when it comes to the cast of "Stargate Sg-1," there are plenty of great post-series movies and shows to choose from.
The long-running "Stargate" saga, based on Roland Emmerich's 1994 movie, has fizzled out a bit in recent years, due in part to apparently complicated rights issues. At its height, the franchise included several TV shows and movies, plus novels, comic books, games, and a web series. None of them were quite as beloved as "Stargate Sg-1," which was nominated for nine Emmys and kick-started the careers of several of its stars. Others involved...

After accidentally revealing the news to a handful of trade publications on earlier this week, Weigel Broadcasting and Warner Bros Discovery (Wbd) formally announced the forthcoming launch of their classic cartoon television network MeTV Toons on Thursday.
The channel will debut in June on broadcast stations across the country and on free, ad-supported streaming television platforms, and will include dozens of classic animated series like “Tom & Jerry,” “The Flintstones,” “Johnny Quest” and “Scooby-Doo.”
MeTV Toons builds off a Saturday morning cartoon block that has aired on Weigel-owned MeTV for several years now, which consisted primarily of animated shows from Warner Bros. MeTV Toons will expand on this idea by incorporating other Warner Bros series into the mix, along with shows from Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony’s Columbia Pictures and others.

Cartoon scientists bring a unique blend of science and sportsmanship to animated shows, like Professor Pat Pending in Wacky Races. The longevity and comedic mishaps of characters like Gyro Gearloose in DuckTales and Brainy Smurf in The Smurfs contribute to their iconic status. The eccentric inventions and exaggerated portrayals of scientists, like Professor Membrane in Invader Zim, add humor and intrigue to animated shows.
In the whimsical world of animation, cartoon scientists have long stood as beacons of brilliance, often blending wacky inventions with uproarious antics. These characters, with their unique combination of genius and eccentricity, serve not just as comic relief but as figures driving the narratives of their respective shows. “Appare Sorano's dreams are big—bigger than his village, bigger than the sea, bigger than the Earth itself. So when fate sweeps him away to Los Angeles without a penny to his name, Appare sees not catastrophe but an opportunity. Likewise, when he hears talk of the $1.51 million prize for the Trans-America Wild Race—a transcontinental trek through the American frontier—he jumps right into the thick of it, dragging a prideful samurai along for the ride. After all, how else is he supposed to get enough funding to fly himself to the moon?!” (Yen Press)

HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav can't seem to keep their names out of the headlines recently, tied exclusively to baffling business decisions like canning the highly-anticipated release of "Batgirl" or absolutely obliterating the streaming platform's animated offerings. Zaslav made it known during the Q2 earnings call that he had hoped to cut 3 billion from HBO Max's operating budget before the inevitable streaming merger with discovery+, which apparently meant annihilating the relationships HBO Max had with Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network.
Learning that your life's work is being wiped out with complete disregard for the artistry or the lives of those that crafted it is difficult enough, but as "Infinity Train" creator Owen Dennis shared, Zaslav and the Discovery team couldn't even have the common courtesy to inform the creators of their decision to throw away their years of work like expired takeout. Chances are, if you’ve started watching Squid Game, then you’ve finished watching Squid Game. Netflix’s Korean social thriller is highly suspenseful, driving viewers through its nine episodes to its chilling conclusion with an anxiety-inducing urgency. The story of 456 desperate people who play a deadly game for the chance to win a ₩45.6billion ($39 million) prize, Squid Game is a familiar premise executed masterfully, which means that if you’re looking for more stories like Squid Game, then you’re in luck; the “deadly competition” trope is a very popular one. Like other standouts in the subgenre, there is nothing quite like Squid Game, but there’s still many, many TV shows and movies worth watching if you’re looking for something that delves into some of the same themes and scenarios as the addictive Netflix drama. Here are our recommendations…

WarnerMedia has acquired the rights to new animated show “Master Moley,” starring Warwick Davis and Gemma Arterton, for its children’s platform Boomerang in more than 100 countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Master Moley” is based on original stories written by British entrepreneur James Reatchlous, who spoke to Variety about how it came to life.
The deal, struck by Jetpack Distribution, will see the animation’s 30-minute special, “Master Moley By Royal Invitation,” head to the channel in November. The acquisition of the new 52-part series, comprising 11-minute episodes, “The Misadventures of Master Moley,” will continue the adventures of Master Moley and friends on Boomerang next year.
The animation follows adventurous mole Master Moley, who lives deep in a burrow under Queen Elizabeth II’s Windsor Castle in the bustling city of MoleTown, where he is the keeper of a magical book, which has the power to bring peace between humans and moles.

Yesterday (May 15th), Warner Bros. released Scoob! on VOD and fans have mixed feelings about it. There was a lot of hype for the animated flick, seeing as it’s the first big budget Scooby-Doo film since 2004, but now that it’s here a lot of people don’t know what to make of it.
WB is clearly hoping to launch a Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe off the back of this movie, with the film featuring many other classic cartoon characters such as Blue Falcon (Mark Wahlberg). Like in many of these cases, though, some viewers think the franchise-fuel gets in the way of what folks signed up for: a new adventure with Mystery Incorporated, here voiced by Will Forte (Shaggy), Zac Efron (Fred), Amanda Seyfried (Daphne) and Gina Rodriguez (Velma).
Here are just a few of the reactions going around on social media…

It’s a relatively slim week in new releases, even by the standards of the ongoing coronavirus shutdown — although there are a few gems to be found, if you hunt hard enough. Families have “Scoob!” which Warner Bros. decided to make available directly via digital, following the recent success of “Trolls World Tour.” And grownups can check out Tom Hardy playing the shell of a notorious gangster in “Capone.” Here are the week’s new releases, with excerpts from reviews and links to where you can watch them.
High-profile on-demand studio and indie offerings:
Capone (Josh Trank)
Distributor: Vertical Entertainment
Where to Find It: Rent on Amazon, iTunes and other on-demand platforms.
In “Capone,” Tom Hardy, as the aging, broken-down, not-all-there Al Capone, acts under a corpse-gray mask of desiccated-mobster makeup. Is “Capone” a fascinatingly idiosyncratic twilight-of-the-mobster drama? Or is it a “Saturday Night Live” sketch with pretensions? It may be a bit of both.

There’s a moment early in “Scoob!” when a bowling alley attendant tells a group of crime-solving teens that some robots have just attacked “a talking dog and this gangly dude who had the habit of using the word like at the start of every sentence, almost as if he was some middle-aged man’s idea of how a teenage hippie talks.”
That’s the world in which this latest iteration of the Scooby-Doo franchise exists – a world that’s very aware of its own silliness and its time-honored tropes, a world where apprehended bad guys not only say, “I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids,” but say it in a way that makes fun of the fact that they’re saying it.

Blame it on “The Avengers.” Or better yet, “Justice League.” Those superheroes are so popular with audiences that Hollywood studios got it in their heads that the world wants to see “expanded universe” movies — unwieldy ensemble productions that bring together half a dozen or more stand-alone characters for a single umbrella adventure. Marvel and DC team-ups make a certain sense, since those super-friends frequently pool their powers in comic book form as well, but not so other brands, and though a handful of movies were greenlit under the strategy — including Universal’s “Bride of Frankenstein” and Warners’ “Godzilla vs. Kong” — they’re burning out or disbanding one by one.
That leaves WB’s computer-animated “Scoob!” looking awkwardly out of touch in several ways. First, it’s a pricey feature adaptation of a classic TV show that, because of the coronavirus outbreak, will instead be debuting via streaming — doomed to a small-screen fate.

The meddling kids of Mystery Inc. are returning to cinemas for the first time in 16 years in a couple of months, and this final trailer for star-studded animated adventure Scoob! promises that it will be a treat for old-school fans and newbies alike.

While Shaggy and Scoob make new friends in outer space, Fred Jones (Zac Efron), Daphne Blake (Amanda Seyfried) and Velma Dinkley (Gina Rodriguez) are left investigating the disappearance of their pals, coming to the conclusion that this mystery is bigger than the usual “man in a mask” ones they deal with every week. The Scooby Gang are set to return to the site of an old mystery this fall. 1998’s Scooby-Doo! on Zombie Island is one of the franchise’s most beloved adventures and it’s now getting a belated sequel in Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island. The animated flick will see – you guessed it! – Scoob, Shaggy and the rest of the team journey back to the undead island to solve the perplexing puzzle once and for all.
Mystery Inc. enthusiasts will know that the original Zombie Island successfully relaunched the franchise after a period of inactivity, following the dark days of Scrappy-Doo in the 80s. It was praised for its relative darkness and creepiness, particularly the novel twist that the titular creatures were actually zombies and not just men in masks.

The new animated Scooby-Doo movie being developed by Warner Bros. Animation, Scoob, has enlisted Mark Whalberg and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows actor Jason Isaacs to voice a couple of character in the project.
Wahlberg is set to play the Blue Falcon, “a superhero from the Hanna-Barbera canon who teamed up with Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Gang to fight against one of his arch-enemies, Mr. Hyde.” Blue Falcon’s right sidekick is Dynomutt and he will be voiced by comedian Ken Jeong.
Isaacs will play the mustache twirling villain, Dick Dastardly, who is said to be the main baddie of Scoob. “Dick is a duplicitous car racer and pilot whose vehicles are known to carry various bombs and traps.” He also has a sidekick, a dog named Muttley. Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you? Well, right here, actually, as our first look at the classic cartoon character’s redesign for the upcoming animated movie reboot of Mystery Inc.’s adventures has leaked online.
Unlike the live-action films from 2002 and 2004, which some felt featured a Scooby that was weirder-looking than the monsters, the reboot – titled Scoob – will star a very traditional take on the loveable talking dog. As well as looking the same as ever, Scooby will sound the same as ever, too, as he’ll be portrayed by longtime voice actor Frank Welker, who’s been with the franchise ever since it began in 1969.
Filling out the rest of those meddling kids, however, will be a new list of big names including Zac Efron as Fred Jones, Amanda Seyfried as Daphne Blake, Gina Rodriguez as Velma Dinkley and Will Forte as Shaggy Rogers.

According to Variety, the studio is bring on Tim Story to direct Tom and Jerry and Chris Columbus to be a creative producer on the Scooby-Doo movie. Tom and Jerry will be a live-action/animated hybrid and Scooby-Doo will be animated.
The report goes on to say that the studio “understands how much of its history is rooted in these iconic characters, and wants to give them as much attention as DC and Harry Potter projects.” That’s great to hear! I love these properties and it would be great to see them get awesome film franchises that the fans will enjoy.
It’s also explained that the studio is looking to have the animation...

Warner Bros. has big ambitions for its animation division, and the studio has zeroed in on the talent to help steer the ship on two popular properties.
Sources tell Variety that Warners and Warner Animation Group are in negotiations with “Shaft” helmer Tim Story to direct the new “Tom and Jerry” hybrid live-action pic. The studio has also brought on Chris Columbus as creative producer on the new “Scooby-Doo” animated movie.
Warners has been strengthening its animation slate going back to production on the “The Lego Movie,” which coincided with the formation of Warner Animation Group (Wag). Allison Abbate was tapped to oversee the division and executives including Jesse Ehrman and president of production Courtenay Valenti have made a big push to get classic titles like the Hanna-Barbera properties off the ground.

As the London Classic Car Show gets set to kick off later this month, we count down our choice of the finest Batmobiles...
Robin: “I want a car. Chicks dig the car.”
Batman: “This is why Superman works alone.”
Man, how we marvelled at the Dark Knight as he responded to Robin’s whinging about wanting wheels of his own in 1997’s Batman & Robin. Yes it was the opening scene of the movie and true, we’d already experienced a higher latex-clad buttocks to screen time ratio than in your average imported specialist German exotica but still, that line… it hinted at the beginnings of a shared universe where Batman and Superman might one day occupy the same screen, sending us into geeky raptures of possibility-flavoured wonderment.
Looking back at the garish daftness that followed, that first minute of the film was probably the best bit.

Voice actress Janet Waldo, best known for playing The Jetsons‘ far-out daughter Judy from 1962 to 1987, had died. She was 96.
Waldo’s daughter tells ABC News that her mother was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor five years ago.
Though Waldo is best-recognized as the voice of Judy, she brought dozens of cartoon characters to life during her career, which spanned from 1938 to 2000. Waldo also provided the voices of Josie and the Pussycats‘ Josie (1970-1972), Wacky Races‘ Penelope Pitstop (1968–1970), The Addams Family‘s Morticia (1973) and The Smurfs‘ Hogatha (1981–1989), to name just a few.

Though a reboot of the "Scooby Doo" franchise has been in the works for a while at Warner Bros. Pictures, it turns out the studio has more ambitious plans than just one film.
Slashfilm reports that the studio announced at CinemaCon this week in Las Vegas that the new "Scooby Doo" film will be called "S.C.O.O.B." and is targeting a September 21st 2018 release.
That's not all though, it seems the film might serve as the launching pad of a proposed new wave of potentially interlocking movies based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoons. A cinematic universe of those characters which includes the likes of The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, The Jetsons, The Smurfs, Top Cat, Jonny Quest, Wacky Races, Sealab 2020 and many others.
Rights to certain titles, such as "The Smurfs," are owned by other parties and so obviously can't take part. The potential news comes from a studio...

Pajamas and a big bowl of sugary cereal is how many of us remember watching our favorite Saturday morning cartoons as kids. Beginning in May, DC Entertainment plans to give old fans and new the chance to relive (and extend) their childhoods with a new, modern lineup of comics based on some of Hanna-Barbera’s most popular cartoon characters, but reimagined in a fresh and contemporary fashion.
The initial lineup includes:
Scooby Apocalypse – Featuring character designs by veteran artist Jim Lee and an origin story by Jim Lee and Keith Giffen (Justice League 3001), artist Howard Porter (Superman) will provide his own unique take on Freddie, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo. “Those meddling kids” and their Mystery Machine are at the center of a well-meaning experiment gone wrong and they’ll need to bring all of their mystery solving skills to bear (along with plenty of Scooby Snacks), to find a...

In a move that feels both surprising and strangely overdue, DC Entertainment is going to release a line of comics that give new life to classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon properties, including Scooby-Doo, the Flintstones, Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, and Wacky Races. In an interview over at Entertainment Weekly, DC co-publisher Dan Didio said the mass reboot's goal is to "not just bring back versions that existed 40, 50 years ago and really look at it the way of saying, if these characters were created and interpreted today, how would they exist?" Not much is known about the content of the comics, but some of their titles suggest new slants on old concepts: Future Quest, Wacky Raceland, and, most eyebrow-raising of all, Scooby Apocalypse. And speaking of the apocalypse: A designer from Mad Max: Fury Road consulted on Wacky Raceland! The new slate is scheduled to launch in May and will feature...

The people have spoken, or more accurately spent their hard-earned cash to the tune of a multimillion-dollar opening weekend: Mad Max: Fury Road is a success. After a long-delayed production (they started shooting in 2012!) and a 30-year gap between sequels, director George Miller and survival-driven helldog Max Rockatansky are most definitely back.
And the result is…peculiar. Critics almost unanimously agree that Fury Road is one of the best action movies in recent memory, but there also seems to be a general consensus on one other thing: the fact that Fury Road is utterly batsh*t mental.
George Miller was given an unusual kind of autonomy on Fury Road by Warner Bros., who gave the filmmaker $150 million and three years to make the film he wanted, even though the film he wanted to make was one of the weirdest, geekiest things studio execs had likely ever seen. The...

In some strange way, there’s always been something cool about the bad guys. In some form or fashion, the more evil characters in books, TV shows and movies play to people’s fantasy. Yes, being good is nice and all, but the baddies seem to have way more fun, just look at Dick Dastardly from the popular cartoon ‘Wacky Races’!
This mindset extends to the world of pro wrestling. ‘Heels’ or ‘villains’ – as they are known – are typically complete rotters as human beings, the kind of folks who go out of their way to do the wrong thing, just because they can. Traditionally, these rogues were subject to scathing heat from wrestling fans, who – perhaps stereotypically – favoured the ‘goody two shoes’ babyfaces.
Then, something changed, and radically. Suddenly, somewhere in the mid-1990’s, people started to grow tired of the same old formula. Heels had been cheered sporadically before,...

The world of Guardians of the Galaxy is an elaborate one with all kinds of strange and obscure creatures. Even before Star-Lord and the gang joined up, the original lineup was way different. Though we couldn.t imagine the film now without the likes of the foulmouthed Rocket Raccoon and the tree-of-few-words Groot, director James Gunn shared an image over Facebool of his characters imagined as figures from Hanna-Barbera Productions. Now this is an alternate lineup we can get behind! Dubbed Hanna Barbardians of the Galaxy, the spoof remolds our intergalactic team of misfits into the best cartoon that was never made: Gamora as Pebbles from The Flintstones, Star-Lord presumably as Bam Bam, Rocket as Muttley of Wacky Races, Drax as Captain Caveman of Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, and Groot as Grape Ape from The Great Grape Ape Show. Growing up in the eighties and early nineties, I genuinely believe that my generation and the generations before me had some of the best cartoons the world will ever see. Kids growing up today probably don’t even know what ‘Saturday morning cartoons’ are. Much of the current lineup for youngsters consists of CG, reboots of shows from years past, and straight-up nonsense. I used to spend all week looking forward to Saturday; even the commercials were amusing. As young horror fans, many of us found ourselves rooting as much for the villain as we were for the good guy. In some cases, the villain was much more debonair, interesting, and relatable than the hero, so it wasn’t all that unreasonable to cheer for them. So with that said, we've prepared a list of memorable villains from those beloved cartoons... villains we sometimes liked just as much, or even more,...

Given that both the gasoline-powered internal combustion engine and the motion picture camera came to be at almost the same time, and given that both cars and movies have gone on to hold such special places in American culture, it’s no wonder that Hollywood has had a long love affair with automobiles and racing. From the silent film Racing Hearts (1922), to Disney’s Herbie franchise, to the late Tony Scott’s Days of Thunder (1990), to Universal’s Fast & Furious series, almost as long as there have been movies, there have been movies about cars. Now, award-winning director Ron Howard has entered the automotive film waters with Rush, a biographical action-drama about the 1976 Formula One season and the rivalry between drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Rush is a very good movie, and definitely one to keep an eye on as we head into awards season.

In 2011, Fast Five came out of nowhere, hot off the heels of what was indisputably the worst entry into the Fast and Furious franchise – the overly self-serious Fast and Furious – and fascinated audiences and critics alike.
Director Justin Lin, who previously helmed the third and fourth installments, seemed to finally discover a tone in part five that was conducive to momentous box office success; in jettisoning the restrictive petrol-head shtick and opting for a broader heist film mode, combined with blokish banter as well as cartoonish physics, the franchise had well and truly become a blockbuster tentpole for the ages.
Lin returns for what will presumably be his final run in the franchise – his reluctance to rush a seventh film into production caused Universal to ill-advisedly replace him with James Wan for the next one – in Fast & Furious 6, which begins exactly where Fast Five left off.

When starting a new television show, the thing I look forward to the most is the title sequence, so it only felt right to devise this list when I heard the theme was favourite television shows this month.
In early television there wasn’t a huge focus on title sequences; their only purpose was to present the names of the cast members but sometimes we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the characters sporting a smile amid transitions like wipes and dissolves. With frequent exterior shots of the setting bestowed, they were often simply clips spliced from the show itself cut to a theme song. Back in the 80s and 90s, theme songs were the main focus but now the title sequence is as important, if not more.

Hattie Collins merks it
