This was Cinédia's first Carnaval themed film. The Studio was one of Brazil's film industry's most important production companies in the 1930s and 1940s and it would produce several other Carnaval themed hits, launching the career of many musical actors, such as Grande Otelo.
It is considered the first commercially successful Brazilian sound film and its first 'Hollywood style' musical.
