This story of a talented yet self-destructive soccer player in Greece works. The main character is well developed and we get a good sense of his relationships with the other characters. For those who have seen Greek movies before, this says a lot. However, the movie is slow and badly edited. If you're into French films you'll like this.
I Fanella me to 9 (The #9 Jersey) has become a classic in Greece. It is based on a most successful novel, so Voulgaris had great material to work with and the result was more than satisfying. Tzortzoglou throws a memorable performance and his career has boomed since then. The film depicts perfectly the eighties atmosphere inside and outside football fields from amateur to professional level. It's also a good reference for everyone who wants to see how Greek mentality was at the time.
