Meant to be shot at the restaurant Dupont in Barbès close to butte Montmartre, this film is a usual melodrama of a prostitute tracking a 47 year old bachelor, rich and pure. Directed by Henri Lepage, who did very light titles like "no mercy for stupids", "no mouse in business" or "no loot for Ricardo", this one is a bit above average thanks to the sexy Madeleine LeBeau, who played in a few classics like "Casablanca", "8 1/2", "Cage of gold". Her sexy silhouette and smiling face is fascinating as she plays two different characters, the prostitute and the lover. Henri Vilbert is convincing as the pure bachelor. Pierre-Louis is great as the hoodlum, but I found Yves Furet exasperating as the pimp, I would have preferred Georges Flamant, perfect specialist for that character. Nice song "aerial subway", music by Joseph Kosma, lyrics by Jean-Charles Renaud, with views from Barbès.

I was able to buy a good quality DVD on eBay from France. But I was disappointed that the only subtitles were in French. This seems like a good movie, I'm surprised we couldn't get English subtitles.
I have to confess, I ended up fast forwarding through any scenes that did not have Madeleine Lebeau. I tried to use Google translate with my iPhone. It only managed to figure out about 10% of the words. I lived in France about 20 years ago for a time. But if you don't speak it regularly, you forget. I believe that Madeleine Lebeau is one of the 10 most beautiful women that ever lived. It was worth the price of the disc just to see her prancing around in her black stockings for about 3 minutes.
Obviously, if you understand French, the movie will have much greater value to you. I'm exploring some translation devices. If I find something that works, I'll watch the movie again.
