Was Matt Damon depressed due to the failure of a movie he worked hard on? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
On Jake’s Takes, Matt Damon opened up about the struggles of powering through a production when you already know things aren’t going as planned. “Sometimes you find yourself in a movie that you know, perhaps, might not be what you had hoped it would be,” Damon admitted. “And I remember halfway through production, knowing I still had months to go.”
He recalled the emotional toll it took on him and his family, sharing that his wife, Luciana Barroso, had to pull him out of his slump. “I remember my wife pulling me up because I fell into a depression about like, what have I done?” he said. Despite the uncertainty, Damon pushed through, embracing the professional mindset: giving everything on set, no matter the outcome. He credited Barroso with reminding...

Paul Kelly’s song “How to Make Gravy” captures a deeply personal story of family tension and redemption. The film adaptation by Nick Waterman and Megan Washington expands the track’s emotional landscape, transforming its compact narrative into a broader cinematic experience.
The adaptation skillfully sidesteps literal interpretation. Instead of direct song quotations, the directors craft a nuanced backstory for Joe (Daniel Henshall), a troubled father who ends up in prison after a violent confrontation with his brother-in-law.
This narrative approach allows exploration of complex themes like family dynamics and personal struggle. The film examines Joe’s internal conflicts and attempts to reconnect with his family, creating a rich emotional terrain that echoes the song’s raw sentiment.
While the expanded narrative sometimes feels stretched, the central emotional thread remains compelling. Joe’s journey of self-reflection and potential redemption drives the film’s dramatic core, staying true to the spirit...

What Did Matt Damon Say About Akshay Kumar’s Toiler: Ek Prem Katha Movie? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Matt Damon once praised Akshay Kumar for Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, highlighting its powerful message on India’s sanitation crisis. According to Hindustan Times, Damon called the film’s message crucial. “It’s great to have stars like Akshay and films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha spotlighting the open defecation crisis,” he alluded. “It helps drive awareness, not only about the issues but also what can be done to tackle this and create change.”
Damon’s Water.org has tackled sanitation for years, and he firsthand experienced the impact of open defecation during his 2013 India visit. “I’ve seen how it threatens health, contaminates safe drinking water, and endangers women and children,” he asserted. Damon stressed that access to clean water and sanitary toilets is a cornerstone for human dignity and potential.

Matt Damon’s The Martian would totally become a different movie if the original plan for the project pushed through. His collaboration with Ridley Scott was a massive critical success, so perhaps there was a reason why they had to face challenges first.

A comic book film in early development at the time interfered with the movie’s progress. Damon was already losing hope that it might get shelved or delayed, but Scott ultimately came into the picture and saved the franchise.

Something’s going on with Carver (Jake Lockett) ever since he returned from a furlough in Texas this season on Chicago Fire. That’s as some changes have come to Firehouse 52, with a new chief (Dermot Mulroney‘s Pascal) and an open spot now on Truck (with Michael Bradway’s Damon out). So when will we get answers about Carver and who will fill that spot? TV Insider turned to Lockett for answers. From the moment that Carver came back at the beginning of the season, it is clear that he is going through something. What can you say about what that is? Jake Lockett: I can’t say a whole lot unfortunately, but I think in general, we can all identify with the idea that as we go through difficult times, we don’t always deal with them ...

Jack Damon's firing on Chicago Fire opened the door for season 13 to replace Blake Gallo with a beloved character. Damon joined the series after Derrick Gibson unexpectedly left and has been nothing but trouble since. He only lasted as long as he did because of the relationship between Damon and Chicago Fire's Severide, which caused Stella to be reluctant to document his unwillingness to follow her directions out of loyalty to her husband. However, after Damon's ignoring her orders made a rescue on a speedboat more difficult, Stella could no longer stay silent.
Even after Stella reported Damon's misbehavior, it wasn't clear that he would be fired. Thanks to an assist from Mouch, Chief Dom Pascal decided to put Damon back in the floater pool arguably the correct decision considering Damon's record of dishonesty and insubordination. While Damon will not be part of the Chicago Fire season 13 cast moving forward,...

Who else is totally excited that 51 is back?
It’s been a long wait after we were left with several big cliffhangers from last season’s finale, and Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 1 started strong.

With the awards race ramping up, and festival favorites emerging, the list of films in the Best Picture Oscar race can seem long, and, this early in the season, distinctly unclear. Fortunately, both Deadline’s Awards Columnist and Chief Film Critic, Pete Hammond, and Film Awards Editor Damon Wise keep on hand an ever-evolving dossier of ones to watch. But then, of course, they don’t always agree. So, we got them together to boil it all down in a back-and-forth: What’s hot, what’s not, and what’s got big-prize potential. Bear in mind, there are, of course, more films yet to come, and for brevity’s sake, not every film with broad Oscar potential could be included in this discussion, but here are Hammond and Wise in conversation about some of the films on their maybe-Best-Picture lists right now. Click on each film’s title to read Deadline’s review.

Jennifer Garner looked stunning in a Versace gown that was custom-made just for her during the 2016 Academy Awards event. It was right after her split from Ben Affleck and she had the ultimate post-breakup look in the gown. However, Garner had to sacrifice a lot to transform into that beautiful look, which she hilariously explained later to Jimmy Fallon.

The Vampire Diaries discussions often revolve around the merits of each pairing. Stefan Salvatore and Caroline Forbes Steroline of The Vampire Diaries cast have garnered significant attention and debate among fans. While their eventual romantic relationship has been a subject of controversy, hints at their connection were laid early in the series.
I particularly enjoy a pivotal episode from season 2, "Bad Moon Rising", which showcases the developing chemistry between Stefan and Caroline. I may not necessarily favor the pairing, but theres no denying that their interactions foreshadow their future relationship and highlight the strengths of their dynamic. However, one harsh reality of watching The Vampire Diaries' early seasons is that the showrunners are testing a lot of things out on audiences, leading to continuity issues later.

Despite winning an Oscar for playing the saddest man in all existence in “Manchester by the Sea,” Casey Affleck’s earlier roles seemed well aware that he could nail the role of an annoying kid brother. One of the best jokes in “Good Will Hunting” is Affleck in the backseat of the car singing, “I wish I had a double burger…” and then he brought that same irritating-yet-endearing energy to the trilogy of “Ocean’s” movies. While Affleck may not be playing a kid brother in his new movie “The Instigators,” it’s the same type of chattering tag-along that works incredibly well for him (and perhaps no surprise that he also co-wrote the script). Paired once again with Matt Damon, the two’s instant chemistry easily carries the film as a breezy watch that for better and worse provides the sense that the stars are making it up as they go along.

In a year when the Barbenheimer phenomenon dominated the industry, it was Adam Sandler who made the most money among Hollywood A-listers in 2023. The Sandman did not have any theatrical releases in 2023. However, his million-dollar Netflix deal spawned two live-action films and one animated film this year. Along with these movies, Sandler had a busy time doing stand-up comedy shows across the U.S. Adam Sandler earned $73 million from all these projects in 2023.

Matt Damon’s filmography boasts credits that illustrate the actor’s bankable stature. But one endeavor that often gets overlooked, presumably because of the reception it received pre- and post-release, was Zhang Yimou’s The Great Wall. Looking back on the project, the Oppenheimer alum acknowledged discerning early on that the movie may be a disaster. And disaster it was—if you consider its box office performance and critics’ evaluations, at least.
Matt Damon in The Great Wall (2016)
It wasn’t just that, though. Leading up to the film’s release, the implications of Damon’s inclusion in a premise set in medieval China, where he starred as a European mercenary warrior who joins forces with the Chinese to help combat an alien threat, was not treated lightly. Accusations faulted the initiative for utilizing the ‘white savior trope’ and ‘whitewashing.’
Of course, those are arguments that characterize many Hollywood endeavors.

TV characters often undergo surprising transformations throughout a season or series, deviating from the initial impression made on the audience. Character changes can be due to external factors like showrunner decisions or actors' lives apart from the series. Examples include Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl, Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries, and Amity Blight in The Owl House.
Some popular TV characters make a first impression that turns out to be very different from the rest of their character arc. As more details about a character are revealed, and the story itself forces them to adapt, the character evolves into something completely different from what the audience was expecting. Good writers can do this so that the character's first appearance makes sense in the context of their story throughout a season or a series.

Plot: In 1984, Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) tries to recruit Michael Jordan as a Hail Mary to save the fledgling basketball shoes division.
Review: Ben Affleck‘s Air allows the director to play to all his strengths as a director and actor. Like Argo, it shines a light on an intriguing event from the eighties, but unlike that film, the stakes here aren’t necessarily life and death. But, if you think the idea of a movie about Michael Jordan being signed to Nike is minor, you’d be wrong, as this is a truly involving, entertaining depiction of everything that went into the landmark deal. One might not imagine that one of the writers of "The Big Bang Theory" and "Young Sheldon" would be behind one of 2023's most anticipated, high-concept sci-fi shows, but that's exactly the situation we find ourselves in. Hailing from Tara Hernandez, "Mrs. Davis" debuts on Peacock later this month, with Damon Lindelof, of "Lost" and "The Leftovers" fame, serving as co-creator on the series alongside her. Based on the reception coming out of this year's SXSW, it promises to be a wild ride.
The show stars Betty Gilpin ("The Hunt") and focuses on a nun who is making it her mission to destroy the most powerful artificial intelligence in the world. Having seen a couple of episodes, that hardly scratches the surface of just how wild this show is. That scope and ambition on display is probably why the first four episodes are going to debut all at once.

That scope and ambition on display is probably why the first four episodes are going to debut all at once.

A little over a year after Ben Affleck mused he would never make a theatrically released movie again, and insisting he wanted to focus on non-franchise films for adult audiences, the filmmaker nonetheless enjoyed one of the happiest box office stories of 2023. To be sure, this past holiday weekend was dominated by yet another “IP movie,” as Affleck is wont to say, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, in the shadow of that film’s gargantuan $205.5 million across five days, Affleck’s own adult-skewing drama, Air, also dominated the court in its own league, grossing $20.2 million over five days.
Not bad for a movie that’s produced by one of the biggest streamers around, Amazon Studios, and which true to Affleck’s word wasn’t even originally intended to reach the big screen. In fact, Air didn’t pivot to a theatrical release until post-production when Amazon realized how well...

“I keep thinking about this quote by Nelson Mandela: ‘I don’t lose. I either win or I learn.’ But what if your learning comes at the expense of someone having to spend the rest of their life behind bars?” That’s our introduction — as well as the trailer’s — to high-powered criminal defense attorney Jacqueline “Jax” Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi) in Reasonable Doubt. The trailer offers a look at Jax on and off the job, and the two will very much collide, especially when it comes to Michael Ealy’s Damon. It appears the one thing to keep in mind about Jax is simple: “At the end of the day, I love criminals.” Watch the video above for more. Disney Onyx Collective’s legal drama premieres on Hulu on September 27 with two episodes. It follows Jax as she fiercely bucks the justice system through wild interpretations of the law and sometimes questionable ethics,...

Christmas movies suggest family-friendly, heartwarming tales, designed for peak holiday family moviegoing. And then there’s the other kind — the late-breaking, high-profile, A-list titles designed to hit the box office and Oscar voters’ consciousness. Some of these launched at prestige fall film festivals (“Downsizing,” “Molly’s Game,” “Hostiles,” “Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool”); others are bonafide awards contenders (Steven Spielberg’s “The Post” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread”); and some, like Hugh Jackman vanity musical “The Greatest Showman,” will soon skid into either bad reviews or audience reaction, or both.
Herewith, a ranking of the Christmas movies in order of their likely Oscar prospects.
“The Post” (Fox, December 22)
Metascore: 82.
Strengths: Steven Spielberg’s riveting paean to newspaper journalism and freedom of the press couldn’t be more timely. Early reviews are strong for this true story about The Washington Post’s publication of the Pentagon Papers,...

Alright, so according to a new report from Soaps.com,we're about to see Bill plot out a new, big scandal. If this scandal works, it could definitely put him back in the driver's seat at Spencer Publications. This is why Bill is going to needs some very specialized help to pull it off. That's where this new guy Ken will come into play. It's being reported by both Soaps.com and TVinsider.com that Bill is going to hire a tech wiz guy named Ken to hack into the Spencer Publications computer files in an effort to retrieve the incriminating recording that Liam has of Bill confessing to setting the Spectra building on fire. Obviously, if Bill can get his hands on it, Liam would have nothing to continue blackmailing Bill with. That would set the stage for Bill to return and take back his company. The big question...

Lethal Weapon is going to be a lot of fun tonight as the show brings a favorite character from the films to the small screen.
Yep. It's time for Riggs and Murtaugh to meet Leo Getz.
Thomas Lennon of The Odd Couple and Reno 911 fame takes on the role that was popularized by Joe Pesci in the films.
But don't expect to see a copycat. Lennon will be bringing a fresh take Getz, and if you've seen any of his previous work, you know it's going to be hilarious.
We had a chance to chat with Lennon about Leo Getz, how he prepared for the role and what it was like working on Lethal Weapon.
TV Fanatic: You're playing one of the most memorable characters in the Lethal Weapon film franchise, how excited were you to take on the character of Leo Getz and how did it all come about?...

A couple of weeks ago, I noted that New Girl had evolved into such an ensemble comedy that it would be just fine during Zooey Deschanel's six-episode maternity leave. So far, we've had two episodes — both of them, like the last few with Deschanel, filmed immediately after production on last season wrapped, so the show could get them done before they lost the star for a while — just featuring the remaining castmembers (plus guests like Fred Armisen, Bill Burr, and Lennon Parham), but the remainder of Deschanel's absence will revolve around the introduction of a temporary addition to the loft: Reagan, a pharmaceutical sales rep played by Megan Fox. Fox has some comedy on her resume, so it's not a complete surprise that she works out quite well in the two episodes I've seen with her. But it's a significant change in the show's usual dynamics, since Reagan is...

In the summer of 1989, while Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" was sounding a thunderclap in cinemas, a troupe of largely black actors and comedians came together on a Fox sound stage in Century City to produce a sketch comedy show aimed at servicing a minority point of view that had been underrepresented by the medium. With producer Keenen Ivory Wayans at the helm, fresh off the success of his 1988 Blaxploitation parody film "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka," eight individuals — a then-unknown Jim Carrey along with Kelly Coffield, Kim Coles, Tommy Davidson, David Alan Grier, T'Keyah "Crystal" Keymáh and Wayans' siblings Damon and Kim — filmed the first episodes of "In Living Color." The show debuted on April 15, 1990, and 25 years later, Damon Wayans can't help but remember first and foremost that he had hair back then. "I remember the pain of getting fired from 'Saturday Night Live' and feeling that I needed redemption,...

As Kim Wayans says in our extended feature on the 25th anniversary of "In Living Color," her brother Keenen was always encouraging on-screen talent to draw on real-life circumstances and relationships to inject truth into their work. That was, as Damon Wayans explains, the big difference between "Saturday Night Live," a writer-driven show, and "In Living Color," a character-driven show where actors were eventually encouraged to pitch characters and concepts and work them out with the writers. It's no surprise, then, that some of these characters would have personal connections with the performers. As you can see in anecdotes from Kelly Coffield, T'Keyah "Crystal" Keymáh and Kim Wayans, quite a few of them in fact came from other corners of their lives, be it someone they knew or something that would just organically spring to life in the day-to-day camaraderie of the show. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to come back to New Girl in Season 3 to reprise the role of Coach, Working with this incredibly talented and funny cast and crew has been one of the best experiences of my career
We will miss him, as he did add a whole lot to the show. However, we are sure that Damon will find another show to bring a lot of humor to.

Happy Endings alum Damon was open to discussing what it’s like having a stranger’s balls in his face, while Jake didn’t shy away from answering why he always seems to bet getting these “slacker” roles.
