But in a time when special effects can conjure up almost anything, who needs a training montage? CGI might be a shortcut, but it’s missing the spark that only true martial artists bring to the screen.

It can also highlight the personal journey of a character, which his precisely what “The Tai Chi Master” (not to be confused with the Jet Li-movie) is about. Set in a period of great turmoil the movie is perhaps the ideal entertainment vehicle, following the well-known structure of these stories. Directors Siyu Cheng and Zhenzhao Lin certainly have experience in the genre, with the latter having helmed some of the most popular genre features such as “Detective Dee’s Hell Road” and “Restart the Earth”.

While Martin Lawrence became a huge star with films like Bad Boys and shows like What’s Happening Now!!, it was the sitcom Martin that made him a household name. The TV show centered on the eponymous DJ, who worked in a radio station, and the shenanigans that happened to him. His girlfriend, and later wife, was played by Tisha Campbell.

Campbell reportedly left the series in the final season, after suing both Lawrence and the producers. The charges on Lawrence allegedly included s*xual harassment and intolerable working conditions. Paul McCartney launched his 2024 South American tour on Tuesday night (October 1st) at the Estadio Centenario in Uruguay. “Agent 86,” a rare China-Tunisia coproduction film, will have its world premiere on Friday in Tunisia, ahead of a commercial release in Tunisian theaters from Sept. 25.

Australian rockers Jet have released their first new songs in 15 years, the single “Hurry Hurry” and its B-side, “Un’avventura.” The new tunes come after Jet revealed earlier this year that they were working on their first album since 2009’s Shaka Rock, with plans for a 2025 release.

Jet have been on the road in ongoing support of the 20th anniversary of their hit debut album, Get Born. “Hurry Hurry” became a regular fixture in their setlist during shows in Australia back in the spring. Trafalgar Releasing and Mercury Studios have set a September 26 release for documentary One Hand Clapping, an opportunity for audiences to step back in time to 1974 with Paul McCartney and Wings.

The behind-the-scenes look delves into the making of the acclaimed One Hand Clapping album featuring rare footage, interviews with the band, insights from the creative team, and iconic Wings hits.

“It’s so great to look back on that period and see the little live show we did. We made a pretty good noise actually! It was a great time for the band, we started to have success with Wings, which had been a long time coming, said McCartney, whose exclusive filmed introduction will kick off the screenings along with previously unseen Polaroid photographs from the recording sessions.

The full documentary directed by David Litchfield will include previously unreleased Backyard Sessions, showcasing McCartney on acoustic guitar performing beloved tracks from his catalog.

Jermaine Jackson is the second most famous member of The Jackson 5. In his 2014 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine said his brother always wanted to collaborate with Paul. Paul wrote a song called “Girlfriend” that appeared on the album Off the Wall. In the 1980s, Paul and Michael released two hit duets together: “The Girl Is Mine” from Thriller and “Say Say Say” from Paul’s album Pipes of Peace. Only the latter has a music video.

Paul McCartney & Wings are finally offering a physical release of one of their most bootlegged albums: One Hand Clapping, the live studio sessions conducted post-Band on the Run in 1974 for a seldom-seen documentary film, will arrive everywhere on June 14th.

While several songs from One Hand Clapping eventually landed on subsequent Paul McCartney releases, this will be the first time the album is available in full. It was also the first Wings album recorded with a new lineup — Denny Seiwell and Henry McCullough departed after Band on the Run, and were replaced by guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and drummer Geoff Britton for the One Hand Clapping sessions.

The album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios over a span of four days while director David Litchfield filmed the documentary — which still hasn’t been released in an official capacity. Within the album’s 26 tracks are Paul McCartney & Wings favorites like “Live and Let Die...

Deadline reports a new sports documentary is being planned for kickboxing champion and martial arts movie star Benny “The Jet” Urquidez. The names associated with the production almost seems like a bingo announcer called out randomly drawn names from my favorite childhood movies. Keanu Reeves, who himself is no stranger to the martial arts world and action genre, has partnered with Fisher Stevens, who is known for projects like Short Circuit 1 & 2 and Hackers, to produce the documentary on Urquidez, whom I’ve talked about before on my Dragons Forever retrospective.

The documentary, which is titled The Jet, is currently in production with the Emmy-nominated sports documentary editor turned filmmaker, Jennifer Tiexiera, directing the film. Tiexiera has most recently also directed a three-part series for HBO called Unveiled: Surviving La Luz del Mundo, which has also recently been nominated for an Emmy in the catagory of Outstanding Crime and Justice Documentary.

In the early days of January, Universal Pictures closed the first major Hollywood deal of 2024 by pre-emptively purchasing the short story package Long Lost, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners producing alongside Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon of Genre Pictures, as well as Scott Glassgold of Ground Control Entertainment. Colin Bannon, who previously wrote and directed the 2009 comedy Love Conquers Paul, is on board to write the screenplay adaptation of his own 50 page short story, which is said to be “in the vein of What Lies Beneath and Rosemary’s Baby“. Now Deadline reports that Universal has scored another Colin Bannon deal, pre-emptively purchasing his short story thriller package Don’t Look, with Janelle Monáe in talks to star and M3GAN, Malignant, and The Nun 2 writer Akela Cooper writing the screenplay, based on an unpublished Bannon short story.

The long gestating live-action TV adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender has finally arrived on Netflix after years of build-up and fanfare. This new series aims to please fans of the beloved animated original and show that the franchise is in better hands than it was with the M. Night Shyamalan movie; while also bringing in a new audience more familiar with Netflix action dramas.

As such, while 2024’s Avatar: The Last Airbender follows the same plot beats as the original show’s Book 1, many have been expanded, condensed, combined, remixed or some combination of the four, while others have been removed altogether. To properly break down these changes, we’ll need to look at all eight episodes individually to see what’s changed and what’s stayed the same. Without further ado, let’s begin.

Denny Laine, guitarist and songwriter for iconic rock bands The Moody Blues and Wings, has died, according to a post from his wife. He was 79.

Laine joined with Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder to form The Moody Blues in 1964. He sang lead on the group’s first big single, “Go Now,” which hit No. 1 in their native U.K. and broke the Top 10 in the U.S. He left the band in 1966, before the rest of its most popular songs were written. Still, Laine was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 as a member of the Moodys.

Deadline also details, “The 29-page unpublished short story hit the marketplace Wednesday, the first day writers were back in business. In what might be a good sign if the rumors are true that many writers spent downtime writing specs, the town responded quickly. Without giving away the reveals, It’s Over takes the painful breakup of a longtime couple and drives it right into the horror lane, blending humor and social commentary, as Cooper did in M3GAN.”

Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment will produce, along with Ground Control.

The film, which premieres in Directors Fortnight on May 25, follow a woman in her 40s, temporarily living at the home of a friend, and a man in his 70s living alone, who both have visitors with serious questions to ask.
