Larry Raspberry who was the lead singer of a 60's band called, "The Gentrys" who played one of the FBI agents was standing around waiting for his queue to go on. Being a mere extra who had been made up as a sort of Elvis Impersonator then leaned over to Larry and asked him if later at the cast party he might play his big hit from 1965 "Keep On Dancing".
It was then he said to me, "Keep On Dancing will be at home with the cramps."
The scene where the plane crashes was filmed in West Memphis Arkansas at an old farm with ancient gas pumps to make the 1950's era look real.
Having arrived there to do the town's people and FBI investigator's scenes in the late afternoon but had to wait till night. The pyrotechnics tech did quite a job on making the explosions pretty realistic. We were there to do about a 5 minute scene that took till past midnight.
The actor with the "dead pan expression" who was one of the alien Zombies, David Hyde, had a scene where he gets shot.
The pyrotechnics guy set some charges on his shirt underneath with blood packs.
When it came time for him to be filmed being shot, the packs went off with such a flash that he was superficially singed.
Having never been set up for this kind of special effect, it was a surprise to him but he took it in stride and even laughed about it.
