Featured review
Finnish movie turned 100 years this year. The first movie that was made here was Salaviinanpolttajat in 1907.Unfortunately that movie is unavailable today, but this movie isn't.The silent film Ollin oppivuodet was made in 1920.This movie that's based on Anni Swan's novel was directed by Teuvo Puro.It shows us the young Olli and how he gets into a fight and runs away.Alfred Idström is a talented kid to portray Olli. The younger Olli is played by a girl, Sirkka Puro, director's daughter.Earlier this year I saw Sirkka Puro (b.1911) talking about this movie in a documentary about Finland's movie history.Jussi Snellman plays Olli's father and Ertta Virtamo is his mother.Brita Erikkson is the little sister.Eero Kilpi is Kaarle the cousin.Suutari Simolin is portrayed by Erkki Karu.Hemmo Kallio plays Suutari Jokela.Aarne Nyman is Olli's best friend Ränni Pelle.Ester Henriksson is Hillevi, orpotyttö.The premiere was a big case back then. Our first president K.J.Ståhlberg was there to watch this wonderful movie. It has many fine moments, like the ones with Olli and his best friend. When movie was young better pictures were made in general.
