Lumisten metsien tyttö is a melodrama set to northern Finland at the turn of last century.A man from Helsinki, Markus Reinman (Matti Oravisto) arrives to that small place to teach the children.Anneli Sauli plays a 16-year old Tarja, who the teacher finds very attractive. The others aren't too pleased about the feelings these two start having to each other.Especially Jukka (Åke Lindman) is very upset about that, since he wants to have Tarja.William Markus' direction and Walentin Chorell's writing is very fine.It didn't do too well, though. It was made in 1956, but was seen in the theaters four years later, in 1960.But to me it's better than said.Matti Oravisto and Anneli Sauli are perfect in the lead.Åke Lindman is great as always.Other good people seen in the movie include Maj-Brit Heljo, Arvo Kuusla, Heimo Lepistö and Eila Pehkonen. It's kind of nice to watch that snowy scenery, people skiing on the white snow. It's much warmer to watch that on TV than experience it yourself.Snow happens to be pretty cold and we have that a lot here in Finland during winters.
