The one thing that remains true about horror fans is that we’re incredibly passionate about the genre. We come to the defense of our favorite horror media, we anticipate new releases, and the list goes on. But what about the films that don’t get nearly any appreciation or are outright hated? There are plenty of hated horror films that not even I would defend, for one reason or another. Yet there are some that receive way too much hate at the time of their release or for years afterwards.
Sometimes remakes of older horror films are immediately disliked, an original horror film doesn’t quite live up to expectations, a sequel in a horror franchise becomes an unwelcome addition etc. Compiling a list of horror films that get hated on is quite the feat if I’m being honest. There might be some folks shaking their fists because...

Valentine’s Day might be about flowers, chocolates, and romance – but in horror, love often leads to obsession, betrayal, and bloody revenge. With slasher thrills, supernatural hauntings, or twisted tales of doomed romance, horror movies set around love and relationships add an extra layer of intensity. Interestingly, horror movies that use romance as a device go right back to the origins of horror cinema, intertwining desire with thrills and kills.
For those who prefer their Valentine’s Day with a side of terror, we’ve rounded up the best horror films to watch on February 14th. These movies prove that sometimes, love doesn’t just break your heart – it rips it out.
The Best Valentine’s Day Horror Movies 1. My Bloody Valentine (1981 & 2009)
Few films embody Valentine’s Day horror better than My Bloody Valentine. This cult classic slasher follows a mining town plagued by a masked killer seeking revenge on Valentine’s Day.

Jennifer Tilly, like many professionals, began acting in high school, having been bitten by the theater bug as a teen. Her mother, a former stage actress herself, helped Jennifer (as well as her younger sister Meg) pursue walk-on roles and supporting parts in various Hollywood TV shows, and Tilly made her TV debut on an episode of the sitcom "Oh Madeline" in 1983. In 1984, she secured a regular role on the obscure comedy series "Shaping Up," which starred Leslie Nielsen as a grumpy health club owner. Tilly appeared in all five episodes. Her real big break came that same year, as she secured a recurring role on the hit cop show "Hill Street Blues," appearing in six episodes.
Tilly would spend the next few years acting in guest spots on hit shows like "Moonlighting," "Cheers," and "Remington Steel." She would also make a move into cinemas, appearing in multiple studio comedies and thrillers.

Jennifer Tilly might be best known for voicing Bonnie Swanson on Family Guy, starring as Tiffany Valentine in The Bride of Chucky and for awakening every ‘90s lesbian with her portrayal of Violet in 1995’s Bound, but her storied career almost took a detour through Springfield, with the actress alleging she was once a close contender for the role of Marge Simpson.
Weeks after getting candid about her connection to The Simpsons via her late ex-husband, series co-creator Sam Simon, a newly resurfaced interview has revealed that marriage was far from Tilly’s only tie to the long-running animated series, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star explaining how she once read for Marge amid uncertainties of the show’s recording format.
“I remember the first episode, Sam had the idea that he wanted everyone to be in the room,” Tilly recalled of The Simpsons early days during her 2021 appearance on The Adam Carolla Show.

How Is It The End Of The Year Already? Time, y’all. Life’s proverbial hourglass turns over again, and with it comes another fresh batch of horror titles ready to rock our worlds. But! Before we start digging into 2025’s crop, Daily Dead has once again generously given me a space to highlight my favorite horror “things” of the year.
I’m going to stick with movies because while every year is a good year for horror movies (which I had to remind doubters yet again), 2024 was a Really good year for horror movies. In trying to whittle down a Top 10, I stared at double the amount of titles I thought deserved recognition. Therefore, I’m sticking to the screen — I need every single slot.
10. A Quiet Place Day One

Jennifer Tilly, the Oscar-nominated actor who has worked in Hollywood alongside visionary and auteur filmmakers including The Wachowskis, Woody Allen and Terry Gilliam, who for decades lent her voice to long-running franchises, all while moonlighting at the top poker tables and taking on the game’s best gamblers to become a world champion player, is now immersed in the most challenging gig in her 30-plus year career: a supporting role on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Tilly’s entree into Bravo’s world of wealthy women who work hard and fight with each other even harder comes in the currently airing 14th season of Rhobh, the franchise’s crown jewel. She appears in episodes as a “friend” of main cast member Sutton Stracke, the socialite boutique owner who rounds out the main group of Hollywood housewives. Jennifer Tilly is best known for her work on the Chucky franchise. But, did you know that the new Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star was nominated for an Oscar before playing Tiffany Valentine in Bride of Chucky? Jennifer has had a unique journey in Hollywood, including a clash with Harvey Weinstein after she decided to take that Academy Award nomination into her own hands.
As it turned out, the former Miramax boss was against the reality TV star's campaign at that time. While Harvey was known for helping actresses get an Oscar, the Seed of Chucky star didn't get the same support from him. 30 years later, she attributed it to not being his "young starlet" type. But in the end, Jennifer said Harvey ended up admiring her hustle.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills just welcomed another diamond holder this explosive Season 14—Bozoma "Boz" Saint John, "the real deal" businesswoman as Sutton Stracke described her. The Ghanaian-American executive's name literally means "goddess," and she owns it—from her successful corporate career to her Dorit-competing relationship with fashion (they're actually good friends).
While many who know Boz pre-reality TV would say the show is beneath her, including her corporate peers, she couldn't care less. Like Bride of Chucky star Jennifer Tilly, who also just joined Rhobh as a friend of the group, Boz sees the show as a huge deal. She even likened it to the professional boardroom she's used to.

In August 2024, Boz told The Hollywood Reporter that her "C-suite peers" were like, "What the f are you doing?" when news broke that she'd joined Rhobh.

Jennifer Tilly recently revealed that she still makes money from her ex-husband, Sam Simon's creation, The Simpsons. During Episode 4 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 14, the Bride of Chucky star said that when they got divorced in 1991, after seven years of marriage, she "got a piece" of the show in the settlement, and "every day," she's like, "Thank you, Sam." Fast-forward to 2005, Jennifer had her long-term boyfriend, Phil Laak to thank for winning during her World Series of Poker debut.

The Chucky TV series may have gotten the ax, but we all know that the base will never let the franchise die. It’s just so embedded in the horror spirit that we’ll always come back to it and the fan favorite characters. And for Jennifer Tilly, that means forever being linked to Tiffany, something she might literally take to her grave.
Sitting down with Interview, Jennifer Tilly acknowledged that Tiffany is without a doubt her signature character and the role she’ll best be remembered for, despite an Oscar nomination for Bullets Over Broadway. And for that, she has the hardcore fans to thank. “I’ve come to terms with the fact that when I pass away, people are going to leave Chucky dolls on my grave, and I’m fine with that. Colin Chilvers, a pioneering, Oscar-winning Hollywood visual effects artist who created movie magic for Superman, apocalyptic scenarios and even The Who’s Tommy, died November 19 in Fort Erie, Ontario, where he lived. He was 79.
His death was first reported Wednesday by the news station 101.1 FM in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Among Chilvers’ more memorable feats were the effects that gave Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder the illusion of flying in Richard Donner’s 1978 classic Superman, work that had him share in a team Oscar for Visual Effects.
In 1986, Chilvers created the dazzling trickery that allowed Michael Jackson to defy gravity by leaning forward 45 degrees with no visible means of support in the music video for “Smooth Criminal.” Chilvers directed the video, along with various other Jackson video collections.
Chilvers’ post-Superman credits from the ’80s through the 2000s also included Superman 2 and Superman 3, Bride of Chucky, X-Men and K-19: The Widowmaker.

As crazy as many of WWE's storylines would be, they still have nothing on WCW's worst (or some will say best) moments. Granted, maybe that is a good thing, considering that some of WCW's craziest angles were not so positively received. In fact, some of WCW's craziest segments are ranked as some of the worst moments in wrestling history.
However, as much as WCW's bad reputation has become widespread in the wrestling community, some of the craziness found in WCW isn't always bad. Some of WCW's craziest moments have been genuinely shocking in the positive sense of the word. Not unlike the Atitude Era over in WWE, a lot of that same craziness is what had audiences coming back for more every week. It's worth celebrating the good kind of crazy that WCW would offer, as much as the kind of crazy that is so cringe-worthy that it still makes fans laugh today.

Looking back on the late 90s and early 2000s, it wasn’t exactly the best time for the horror genre, and you’d be hard pressed to argue that anything released at the time was a classic. Because they weren’t. That’s not to say that we didn’t get any ‘cult’ classic titles that have stood the test of time because of elements other than the quality of the movie. 1999s The Blair Witch Project had a genius marketing campaign that sold the movie as a scary, true life tale, while the press made out that it was so terrifying, people were being sick in cinemas. The truth is, it’s an average horror movie and it was the shaky camerawork that more than likely made people nauseous. It’s still regarded as a cult classic, however, but what about the rest of the content from the time?...

There’s little doubt that Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky, has left an indelible mark on horror culture. One of the few 1980s slashers to still dot the horror landscape in 2024, the killer doll has a multi-media empire worth exploring. Coming to Shudder on November 1, Doc of Chucky provides some big stories from those who made the movies. Director Thommy Hutson — the writer of Crystal Lake Memories and Never Sleep Again — gives the Don Mancini films the full-scale treatment he gave the previous entries of his pseudo-trilogy. With over five hours of footage, Doc of Chucky proves as expansive as ever.

The Syfy and USA Networks have canceled the television series adaptation of the popular horror franchise “Child’s Play” after three seasons. Known as “Chucky,” the show had gained a loyal fan following since its debut but will conclude with many plotlines left unresolved.
Don Mancini, the creator of the “Child’s Play” films and driving creative force behind the TV series, expressed his disappointment publicly. However, he hinted that this may not be the end for the murderous doll, cryptically stating “He’LL Be Back.” Jennifer Tilly, a core part of the franchise since 1998’s “Bride of Chucky” took to social media to reassure fans, saying that resurrections are a specialty of Chucky and there are many left.
So sad to announce that after three wonderful seasons the television series “Chucky” has finally been canceled.
First I’d like to think our fans, who managed to keep the #RenewChucky hashtag trending for Months!

Netflix has an ever-changing content library, meaning that while some great new titles arrive, some key shows and movies are leaving in October 2024. Since its inception, Netflix has positioned itself as the preeminent streaming service, and they were one of the first to delve into the world of original content, including the arrival of hit films like Rebel Ridge and the popular series The Perfect Couple last month. However, the streamer also has a great reputation for hosting other content, and they are a one-stop-shop for everything from classic series to some of Hollywood's biggest films.
Netflix alters its lineup every month, and many shows and movies on Netflix have a limited time on the platform. September 2024 saw the platform losing some high-profile titles, including the complete series of How to Get Away with Murder, the horror-comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies, and the original Beverly Hills Cop. As the stars of Chucky mourn the Syfy show’s death, they have faith in Damballa that the horror franchise will soon be resurrected.
Following Friday’s news that the Child’s Play spin-off series will end after three seasons, creator Don Mancini continued to tease the killer doll’s onscreen future amid a #RenewChucky fan campaign as he and the show’s stars reacted to its cancelation.
“He’LL Be Back,” wrote Mancini on X, sharing Deadline’s previous report. “I have so much love for our amazing fans. Your #RenewChucky campaign meant the world to me during a very difficult time. Chucky says to tell all of you, quoting himself: ‘See ya real soon.'”
Jennifer Tilly, who reprised her role from the films as Tiffany Valentine (and herself) for the series, also shared her reaction on the platform. “So sad to announce that after three wonderful seasons the...

Netflix is removing 34 movies and TV shows from the streaming service in October 2024, and we have the full list of titles that are set to expire.
Unfortunately, this is a monthly occurrence for the streamer, and there’s always a few fan faves included. Often, it’s due to licensing deals expiring and sometimes, titles will often end up popping up on other streamers.
There are some horror films being removed, so if you’re in the Halloween spirit, you might want to watch some of the Chucky franchise titles before they’re taken away! Other notable titles leaving include Save the Last Dance, the Magic Mike films, Jack Reacher films, Crazy Rich Asians, and more.

Fans of the comedy horror Bodies Bodies Bodies will be disappointed to learn that the movie will leave Netflix on Sept. 19, 2024. But the good news is that a long list of horror comedies is available on the streaming service to fill the void. And don't miss this year's Netflix & Chills lineup.
Bodies Bodies Bodies and other horror comedies are a unique subgenre of horror that mixes slasher elements with absurd comedic ones. Mixing comedy with horror is nothing new, as Edgar Allan Poe and other writers often combined the two in their works.
Bride of Chucky
Bride of Chucky is the fourth installment of the Child's Play franchise, written by creator Don Mancini and directed by Ronny Yu, also known for Freddy vs. Jason (2003). Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, with Jennifer Tilly portraying Tiffany Valentine, a role she would reprise in several other installments of the franchise.

Theater chains have been making a killing with unique movie-themed popcorn buckets, and Cinemark Theatres has announced two special horror ones for Halloween this year.
Both Pennywise and Chucky are getting souvenir cups and popcorn bucket heads this spooky season, Cinemark has announced today, and they’re all now available at select theatres!
Why are we getting Pennywise and Chucky popcorn buckets when new It and Child’s Play movies aren’t actually scheduled for theatrical release anytime soon? Well, it seems that Bride of Chucky is headed back to theaters this coming October, which at least explains the Chucky cup and bucket. As for Pennywise, he’s back next year in “Welcome to Derry.”
The Pennywise popcorn head will be selling for $29.99, while Chucky’s popcorn head is going for $24.99. The souvenir cups are selling for $15 each and they come with same day refills.

If you’re looking for a new movie to watch this holiday weekend, you’re not going to find a blockbuster avalanche in theaters right now. Fortunately, streaming always keeps the hits coming, old and new, and we’ve put together a curated guide of the best movies streaming new on Netflix this month.
Whether you’re in the mood for an underrated 90s action-thriller or a brand-new take on exorcism horror from “Precious” filmmaker Lee Daniels, here are the best new movies on Netflix in August.
“The River Wild” (Universal) “The River Wild”
An undersung 90s adventure-thriller — an era when Hollywood valued and respected that genre, and sure as heck knew how to make them pulse-pounding. Oh, and it stars the great Meryl Streep, who spends much of the film fighting for her life while strapped into a boat, navigating also life-or-death white water rafting. A couple (Streep and...

In the late 1990s, Oprah Winfrey took an unusual turn and starred in a horror film. Audiences were much more interested in a new movie about Chucky the Doll that was in theaters at the time. This event led Oprah to eat 30 pounds of mac and cheese. Here’s a look at what Oprah thought about this binge years later.
Oprah Winfrey hadn’t heard of Chucky the Doll until he overshadowed her movie
Oprah has appeared in several historical films, like The Color Purple, Selma, and The Butler. One of the least remembered is Beloved, based on the classic novel of the same name by Toni Morrison. The combination of a massive star and a classic book could have been Oscar gold, but that wasn’t the case. According to a 2011 USA Today article, Oprah told Piers Morgan that Beloved‘s failure led her into “a massive, depressive macaroni and cheese-eating tailspin.

The 1998 sci-fi war film "Soldier" might be the best film in Paul W.S. Anderson's career. A kind-of-spinoff to "Blade Runner" (both films were written by David Webb Peoples), "Soldier" begins in 1996, when the American government implements a new program to raise children, from birth, to engage in combat. Over the course of decades, their souls are meticulously erased and they become wholly devoted to military conquest. The soldiers barely speak and don't appear to possess empathy or compassion. If anyone falls behind or displays weakness, they are executed.
One of the star soldiers of the program is Todd-3465 (Kurt Russell), who has been molded into a ruthless killing machine over the past 40 years. It is now 2036, and the Soldier program is under threat. It seems that a new breed of soldiers, genetically engineered ones, are stepping up to take Todd's place. The new soldiers are faster, stronger, can live much longer,...

Netflix is like a goldmine of entertainment, offering everything from gripping series and eye-opening documentaries to laugh-out-loud comedy specials. But let’s be real -- just because it’s on Netflix doesn’t mean it’s worth your time. There are various suggestions as to when the slasher movie sub-genre began, but it's safe to say it's been with us for at least 60 years. And in those 60 years, there's been a lot of dreck. That's not a bad thing, mind you — dreck can be fun! The slasher film, with its propensity for graphic kills and unstoppable killers taking center stage, is prone to sleaze and cheese, and that can be mighty enjoyable. It's a matter of taste — can you stomach what's being churned out? Or will you head to the toilet and lose your lunch? And then ... will you come back for more?
A new month is upon us, which means it's time for me to yet again highlight some streaming horror titles. And this month is all about slashers! Before we get to it, some ground rules. I tried not to be too obvious here. There are a...

Actress Jennifer Tilly has joined Season 14 of Rhobh as a “friend of” through full-time cast member, Sutton Stracke. Keep reading for more details on how she is dealing with Bh ladies.
Jennifer Tilly: Being On Rhobh Scarier Than Horror Film
Rhobh viewers have come to know Jennifer Tilly as Sutton Stracke’s confidante and close friend. Yet, she also may be familiar due to her plethora of film roles. The sixty-five-year-old has not only been a prominent figure in movies but also on television. Some of her most notable film roles have been in The Fabulous Baker Boys, Bullets Over Broadway, and Bride of Chucky. Jennifer also is featured on Family Guy and the television show, Chucky as Tiffany Valentine.

We’re back to BOOsics on this week’s episode of Nightmare on Film Street, talking about horny ghosts, drunk vacationers, and Jennifer Tilly! Join your horror hosts Jon & Kim as they sit down for a sober discussion about the ins and outs of having sex with a ghost, as depicted in the unsurprisingly underseen 80s sex comedy High Spirits (1988).
Starring a truly unpredictable cast, including Bever D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation), Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill Vol. 2), Steve Guttenberg (3 Men and A Baby), Liam Neeson (Taken), Peter O’Toole (Ratatouille), Jennifer Tilly (Bride of Chucky), and more (!) High Spirits is an unhinged tale of a Hotel owner trying desperately to save the family castle by pretending that it’s haunted. Of course, when real ghosts appear and stack shacking up with the guests, things go a little wonky. Words cannot express the sheer insanity of this far-fetched farce,...
