The character Verity Chandler, a gossip reporter, owns a dog named Louella; this is a reference to famous gossip reporter Louella Parsons.
Patrick McGoohan and Peter Falk had a long association and friendship. In McGoohan's first Columbo (1971) appearance, he was honored with an Emmy Award. Two years after this movie, Falk asked McGoohan to direct and star in Columbo: Murder with Too Many Notes (2001). McGoohan agreed to direct, declining to act in the project because he had just been in this (previous) project. This episode was his last acting job, and the 2000 Falk project was his last directing assignment.
The last line spoken, "It's Your Funeral", is also the name of an episode from Patrick McGoohan's 1960s series The Prisoner (1967).
