In the late ’80s and early ’90s, it wasn’t unusual for violent movies like RoboCop and Rambo to be turned into Saturday morning cartoons for kids, but The Toxic Avenger still seemed like an unlikely candidate — until the 1984 low-budget gorefest was cleaned up for “Toxic Crusaders” in 1991.
An environmentally-conscious superhero cartoon in the vein of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Captain Planet,” the show ran for one season. All 13 episodes are coming to Blu-ray from Troma on December 10.
While originally animated on 16mm film, “Toxic Crusaders” was mastered on videotape for broadcast, including all digital effects and transitions. To present the series in the best possible quality, Troma has used advanced AI models to upscale the standard definition masters in high definition to capture the original broadcast’s intended experience.

Back in the 1990s, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was all the rage. Thanks to the hit animated series and feature film franchise, the heroes in a half-shell became one of the biggest pop culture sensations of the decade, sparking various imitators like "Biker Mice from Mars" and "Street Sharks." But there was no beating Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, especially when it came to the expansive action figure line from Playmates.
On top of the standard versions of all four turtles, as well as their adoptive father Splinter and primary villains Shredder, Krang, Rocksteady, and Bebop, Playmates released an eclectic array of villains along with a bunch of goofy variations on Leo, Donny, Raph, and Mikey. Michelangelo as a birthday clown? Done. Donatello as a cowboy from the Wild West? Yup. Raphael as an astronaut? You know it. Leonardo as a hockey player?...

Perhaps no other film has shaped Hollywood like "Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope" has since 1977, which is not bad for a movie whose crew regarded it as a joke during production. George Lucas' epic saga of space wizards, space fascists, and plucky everyday heroes long ago in a galaxy far, far away was ground-breaking in its VFX, yet its story looked to the past. Drawing from a myriad of sources across different cultures and genres, Lucas wove a fairy tale as elemental as any in its depiction of the eternal war between the forces of darkness and light.
Due to its success, the cast of "Star Wars" would forever be associated first and foremost with their roles in the film, sometimes to the chagrin of the actors who had led long and illustrious careers before that. For the likes of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels,...

Though there's no way to determine the actual numbers, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is probably responsible for convincing most kids that they need to take up some kind of martial arts. Of course, most of them end up disappointed to learn that they won't be wielding any of the weapons that Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo whip around, and very quickly they come to the realization that practicing karate (or ninjitsu) isn't nearly as fun as beating up the Foot Clan. But that didn't stop "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" writers and producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg from giving martial arts a try, albeit in a more haphazard way.
Leading up to the release of "Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem" (which is a bigger box office hit than it seems), Rogen and Goldberg had some stories about trying to become "Ninja Turtles" themselves. In fact, they both told stories that...

Exclusive: Ryan Reynolds and his company, Maximum Effort, have joined Nacelle’s Biker Mice from Mars animated series, a new iteration of the cult classic series. Nacelle plans to co-produce with Maximum Effort and Fubo.
“Some people know that I am a motorcycle enthusiast, so it was only natural for us to jump on board Biker Mice from Mars,” said Reynolds. “Maximum Effort and Fubo look forward to putting a new spin on this cult classic with our friends at Nacelle.”
The Biker Mice From Mars story: on the planet Mars, there existed a race of anthropomorphic mice who enjoyed motorsports and had a very similar culture and society to that of human beings. Eventually, they were all but wiped out by the Plutarkians, an alien race of obese, foul-smelling, worm-eating, fish-like humanoids who plunder other planets for their natural resources.

Thanks to the massive success of the 1987 animated series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," toy companies and television networks were all looking for their own anthropomorphic crimefighting animal franchises in the late 1980s and early 1990s. And when they eventually found them, the results were wild. In the words of Guns N' Roses, "Welcome to the Jungle."
"Battletoads" was probably the most blatant ripoff. "Road Rovers" was another swing and a miss. "Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron" had a pretty awesome show, but the toy line didn't deliver as much as the cartoon. Then came "Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa" and "Street Sharks," which excelled in both areas. But when "Biker Mice From Mars" premiered in 1993, both the show and the toys stood head and shoulders above the rest (but always just below Tmnt). Born in Mansfield, Ohio, Perry moved to Los Angeles after high school to pursue acting. His TV career began when he was 16, and the actor cut his teeth acting in soap operas like ABC’s “Loving” and “Another World” on NBC, and doing voice work for animated series such as “The Incredible Hulk” and “Biker Mice From Mars.”
However, in 1990 Perry became a household name for playing the brooding loner Dylan McKay on the smash hit teen drama “Beverly Hills, 90210” on Fox. The show became a phenomenon, catapulting Perry to full-blown teen idol status. He appeared on a racy Vanity Fair cover in July 1992.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise celebrated three decades of existence in May. Like so many 30-year-olds, it’s made a few mistakes along the way. And so, on the occasion of this weekend’s vaguely anticipated, generally feared Michael Bay-ified reboot, here’s a look back across the wide expanse of the Tmnt-verse that seeks to answer one question: What are the 37 worst things this franchise has ever created?

It’s always a delight, an honour and a privilege for this writer to interview some of the industry’s veteran actors- masterful performers with a wealth of experience and anecdotes to give. William Morgan Sheppard is one of those great character actors, whom you’d likely recognise from his work on various Star Trek films and series, his appearance on Doctor Who with his son Mark in 2011′s The Impossible Astronaut, and a whole back catalogue of other TV series and films. Sheppard is a man skilled on screen, on stage and in his prolific voiceover work, such as Biker Mice from Mars.

There are many moments in your young life that you will always remember. Your first days at school for example, maybe even your first kiss (it wasn’t very good) and one memory I will never forget; the first time a film genuinely frightened me. The nostalgia of reliving that memory in your head is one of cinematic glory. Much like the time you realise cinema can effectively tug at your heartstrings and drown your face in a hail of tears. As you get older the images in front of you go from real (believing they’re happening in front of you), to the realisation of the cinematic machine (a reproduction of artificial images), until eventually you decide to lose yourself into that same machine that once fooled you. As they say the proof is in the pudding, we need only look back at the seminal Lumiere Brothers ‘Arrival of...

Already boasting a stable of artists that makes other studios green with envy, Gang of Seven Animation (aka G-7 Animation for those of you in the know) will now have a serious pile of scratch to go along with their impressive roster, thanks to a partnership with the Chinese government.
Tom Tataranowicz, a veteran of the animation industry and the big cheese at G-7, dropped the information yesterday, as well as what some of the plans were to do with this funding. Aside from a film reboot of the 90's television series "Biker Mice From Mars," Gang of Seven Animation is also currently working on CGI animated versions of Frankenstein and the graphic novel Freak Show. Legendary illustrator Bernie Wrightson is currently tagged as production designer on the latter project.
It certainly looks like some serious entertainment will be rolling out from G7 Animation in the near future. Stay tuned!

Matt concludes his celebration of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies with Turtles Forever...
As part of the celebration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' 25th anniversary, the animated film, Turtles Forever, was produced. Set in the world of the 2003 TV series, the film wasn't so much released as it was carelessly knocked off a shelf and into the world. (My suspicions that the release strategy was planned as an act of revenge by a petulant, bitter Biker Mice From Mars fan are yet to be confirmed.)
After theatrical screenings were cancelled, it was trimmed down and shown on American television, with the full-length version made available for free streaming on the Internet. It was given a particularly clumsy Us DVD release in 2010, featuring the shortened TV edit of the film, presented in the wrong aspect ratio. Pixar’s classic A Bug’s Life brought together an amazingly talented group of people. As the film makes its Blu-ray debut, we find out what happened to its cast…
The classic Pixar production, A Bug's Life, brought together an amazingly talented group of people, including Kevin Spacey, David Hyde Pierce and Denis Leary. So, twelve years on from the film's original release, and to tie in with its UK debut on Blu-ray, we ask, where are the voices behind A Bug's Life now, and what have they done since?
Dave Foley - Flik
One of the former members of The Kids In The Hall and a stand-up comedian, Dave Foley has been well occupied since providing the voice for Flik. He's either providing voice talent for animated TV shows, or appearing in person as in a stint on Will And Grace, and the mini-series Kids In The Hall: Death Comes To Town.

In its heyday there were over 760 titles released in the Us and Pal regions for the Nintendo Entertainment System, also referred to as the Nes. Many of these games are absolute classics that to this day remain nostalgic keystones in people’s childhoods. Who can forget the first time they hopped on a Goomba in Super Mario Bros., gunned their way through the jungle in Contra or blasted Mother Brain in Metroid? These games, while some not so heavy on story, were crafted in such a way that it didn’t matter that we only had two buttons and a d-pad. We had strongly defined characters in engrossing new worlds with clear elements of mystery and adventure to overcome.
This is a list of some of those games, games where the premise is so strange and the mechanics so unnatural that they’ve either become instant blockbusters or cult classics.

It's been well over two years since we've heard any new news regarding the Leonardo DiCaprio produced, live-action and (*sigh*) Americanized re-imagining of Katsuhiro Otomo's legendary manga, Akira. However, Pajiba.com offers up some new updates on the production which...well, let's just leave it at that, "some new updates."
Apparently in a blink-and-you-would've-missed-it move, The Hughes Brothers, Albert and Allen, are rumored to be in final negotiations to direct the two-part epic, which would be based on the original manga series rather than the more popular 1988 anime film (trust us, although they're the same story, they're two completely different monsters). Adding to that news, it looks like a screenwriter for the production is close to being officially announced -- namely, Albert Torres (according to a report on Collider). If you're reading that name and thinking, "Albert Who?" you're not alone, as his only credit to date is Henry Poole is Here (which,...
