Merry Widower

Ethel Clayton leaves husband Jimmy Finlayson because he's been duck hunting for seven years. She takes up with Tyler Brooke. Rumors that Finlayson have killed himself. He's working as a coach man, and his current fair is psychic Jerry Mandy, on his way to Miss Clayton to offer a reading on her missing husband.

This was made in the period when Hal Roach was trying out Finlayson as the lead in his own series of short comedies. Given the talent available to Roach, this is well stocked with supporting comics, including Charley Chase, Sammy Brooks, and Charlie Hall. The result is a good comedy, but the Lot of Fun was more attuned to character comedy, stuff in which recognizable people wound up doing absurd stuff. Finlayson's metier was that of a supporting comic, and he was brilliant in that sort of role.
