The real John McDonald wrote about his escape from Saudi Arabia in a book titled "Flight From Dhahran".
John McDonald appeared on the Larry King show and the Tom Snyder show, as well as the game show, "To Tell The Truth" to tell his story.
McDonald's story was first reported in a June 5th, 1978 edition of People Magazine.
