The newspaper featured in this short film started in 1884 with the name Le Patriot. It was renamed La Libre Belgique as part of the Belgian underground press in February 1915 during WWI. During WWII it went underground again, published by several different organizations with a number of unofficial editions. As of 2017, it is still being published daily, except Sunday.
The 20,000 francs reward proffered by the Germans in 1918 would equate to roughly $4,000 at the time or nearly $70,000 in 2017.
