In this fairytale combination of human acting and cartoons, two sisters of opposite character have to find in themselves the goodness to help each other and the friends they make in this good vs. evil adventure.
It had an excellent musical score that might prove, given larger audiences, that opera singers and great orchestras are not necessary for the creation of charming auditory treats.
If Americans had their Disney, Romanians had I.P. Gopo :)

one remarkable films by Ion Popescu Gopo, it is a fairy-tale and a nice moral lesson. a beautiful product of Romanian school of animation, part of Romanian - Soviet collaboration, it is full of grace, seductive and amusing. the influences of Wizard of Oz or Romanian fairy - tales gives more charm to adventures of Maria and Mirabela. and, for present public, the meeting with first steps of extraordinary Medeea Marinescu and Gopo "the Great" are unique events. spectacular is fresh emotion after so many years ago. and the flavor of songs, as taste of bread slice in holiday at grandparents.all is magic - result of imagination, technical solutions, the music, each detail. and the joy of child in adult of present.

I watched it almost twenty years ago, and I still remember it. I'll speak not for myself but for a little child who saw this movie a life ago. I just remember that I was taken by it, by it's beauty. There was something so magical about that movie... I remember that it shook my imagination, especially the butterfly's dancing (special effects without computers %-o). It also had to do with a big deal of kindness - I guess, it was the major message from the people who created that movie. Great movie.
The most wonderful, magical, unforgettable film-a fairy tale for all ages - for children and for adults who have not forgotten their childhood and remained small in the Soul! Watched it a long time ago, as a child, 15-20 years ago. Very memorable funny animated characters-animals - Kwaki The Frog, Omide The Butterfly and Skipirich The Fireworm, liked the music, especially the song " Maria, Mirabela...", and of course, both of the main characters, little girls, Gilda Manolescu (Maria) and Medea Marinescu (Mirabela): so different and so attractive, each in its own way: touching, gentle and kind Maria and bold, rough, sharp on the language of Mirabela. Despite the fact that they are quite different in nature, sisters are always love and sincerely support each other and not leave in bad situations, their interactions perfectly complementing the missing traits: Maria - her infinite kindness, love and compassion for all living things, Mirabela - common sense, wit and a certain degree of practicality. The film is for children, and, of course, as expected, the end is good, and even very good: in the last scene in my eyes were pure tears - out of joy and boundless feeling of happiness.
The great sorrow and eternal memory to the untimely death of Gilda Manolescu, wonderful and kind Maria...
The film teaches a lot, in a simple fairy - tale form: how important it is to love your family and friends, to support and help each other - this is the real life and happiness.
Score: 10 out of 10
PS: Just finished watching, and it turned out that in my early childhood, I have seen a very different film, the sequel "Maria, Mirabela: Adventures in the Land of Tranzistoria" - I remembered not the plot and not the main characters, but only their friends, drawn-animated animals and the individual, random words of songs. But no continuation can surpass the original, and with "Maria, Mirabela" - this is the case.

Along with the "Priklyucheniya Buratino (TV)" this movie holds the first place in my "Greatest Films Of All Times And Peoples" top. "Mulholland Drive" and "Donnie Darko" are the second and the third places accordingly. Divine music score. The fairytale is almost unique for there are no evil characters in the story. The best choice for kids. A pleasure to watch for grownups.
