I interviewed James Coburn in late 1998 for the cover story of the February 1999 issue of Venice Magazine. I had grown up watching Coburn on the late show, but also seeing him on the big screen, first-run. Meeting him was a thrill as he entered the living room of his manager, the late Hilly Elkins', home in Beverly Hills. Coburn was elegant, charming and had the grace of a cat. The only thing that revealed the health problems that had nearly done him in were his gnarled hands, the result of severe arthritis. We spoke about his role in Paul Schrader's newest film, "Affliction," which would earn him a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award. Later, as I walked Coburn to his Acura Nsx sport coupe, he bid me a warm farewell.
Several months later, I encountered him again at The Independent Spirit Awards, in Santa Monica. I went up...

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me a million times when I’m drunk with the allure of original titles like Ragin Cajun Redneck Gators, Chupacabra Vs. The Alamo and Piranhaconda, well, I’m not sure where the shame lies, but for the sake of my own battered ego, I’ll just blame it on the alcohol.
Unfortunately my Sharknado double feature experience had to be a completely sober one, because on the contrary, I’m a terrible writer when under the influence. Yes, I’m one of the virgin souls who avoided the original Sharknado like a typical Asylum produced plague, not because of my hatred of B-Movies, but my undying devotion to Proper cult classics. Sharknado is nothing but a gory poser – a wannabe insta-classic focused only on one ridiculous gimmick and boatloads of viral marketing. Do you know why the original film was such a success?...

Chicago – There are a couple directions to the long career of Bob Saget. The first is of Danny Tanner, the Dad he portrayed in the 1980s sitcom “Full House,” and the second is his stand-up act, with a reputation for filthy jokes that has no boundaries.
Both sides are revealed in his memoir “Dirty Daddy: Chronicle of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian.”
Saget came through Chicago in April of 2014 on a very special night at The Museum of Broadcast Communications here. “An Evening with Bob Saget” brought the comedian to the museum, and he sat down with Roe Conn of Wls-am for a Q&A session and banter with the audience.

At age 31, Cinematographer Brandon Trost is still considered a youngster in a racket that consists mostly of older men with flowing gray hair and/or unkempt artistic temperaments.
With over 70 titles on IMDb, the young cinematographer has paid more than his share of dues, working on gonzo film sets with gonzo talent (Crank: High Voltage, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance). On each film, or at least once he climbed out of the indie trenches with the Crank sequel, Trost has added his own distinctive look to each film he has touched, regardless of the quality of source material. With the upcoming Townies and This Is the End, Trost is quickly becoming the go-to guy in Hollywood for cream of the crop talent in multiple genres, forging lasting friendships with directors and actors alike. From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood. The Lords of Salem tells the tale of Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a “gift from the Lords.” Heidi listens, and the bizarre sounds within the grooves immediately trigger flashbacks of the town’s violent past.

We've seen tons of stills and behind-the-scenes images from Rob Zombie's latest film, The Lords of Salem, but really not much beyond that. No trailer, no clips, nothing. That being said, Artist Direct caught up with Rob and came back with a status report.
“I’m in the final stages of finishing the film. By the end of August, we’ll be done. The sound designers are still creating some of the sound effects for the movie. Once they’re done, I’ll go into the mix stage in August and mix the final sound for the movie. Then, I’ll be done,” Zombie explains.
“This movie is definitely a slow psychological burn…It’s a weird movie,” Zombie continues. “When you watch it, it seems like there’s not a lot happening for a while. However, what’s happening is you’re starting to get sucked into the pace of the movie though.

Try not to be grumpy in this stupid hat
Once Upon A Time “Dreamy” Air Date: 3/4/2012
In spite of myself, I’ve rather enjoyed and grown fond of Once Upon A Time after my binge viewing of the first half season to bone up for this reviewing gig. Its heart, whimsy and Lost-like parallel universes won me over despite the spotty acting, my disinterest in the main romantic pairing (Snow White and Prince Charming) and sometimes tacky storytelling. This week, that heart and whimsy resulted in a cheese ball cringe fest that made me want to reach for my vomit bucket. I’ll try to write the synopsis with a straight face.
Nova (Dollhouse’s Amy Acker, who almost remains appealing despite her dual role of klutzy schmaltz) is a young fairy that wants to be a fairy godmother someday and to explore the world. Cinderella’s fairy godmother, the...
