The longest-running scripted American television series of all time is "The Simpsons," an adult animated show created by Matt Groening. Premiering in 1989, "The Simpsons" changed things as a cartoon that isn't exclusively geared toward younger audiences and also reinvented the sitcom format. The series showcased a modern middle-class family, loving yet utterly dysfunctional, while getting in plenty of mischief along the way. The show both tonally echoed contemporary sitcoms at the time of its debut and went on to inspire countless animated series that followed it.
With "The Simpsons" such an enduring and influential fixture in American television, there are a multitude of shows like it. Whether animated or in live-action, there are plenty of sitcoms that share DNA with Groening's masterpiece. At the core of most of these shows is a family, either biological or surrogate, defined by their differences and offbeat love for one another, marked with plenty of laughs.

Ben Stiller apparently had to fight to get Adam Scott cast in the lead role for “Severance.”
Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter that it was paramount he convince streaming platform Apple TV+ to give Scott the chance to take on the character of Mark S. in the drama series. Stiller, who executive produces the show and directs several episodes, had previously directed Scott in his 2013 film “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.”
“So much of the show [‘Severance’] is based in ‘The Office’ and ‘Parks and Rec’ and ‘Office Space,’ and that genre,” Stiller said, citing Scott’s tenure on NBC sitcom “Parks and Rec,” another workplace comedy. “The humor in the script that [creator] Dan [Erickson] wrote was in that world but had this other layer to it. Casting was about figuring out who could handle that.”
Even Scott knew it was a risk for him to be cast as the lead.

“What if there were a medicine that could heal almost anything? What if they didn’t want you to know about it?” So goes every health grift, preached by everyone from snake oil salesmen to chumbox clickbait to, probably, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the not-too-distant future.
But no, really: What if?
This is the premise of Adult Swim’s Common Side Effects. And if the ingredient at its center sits squarely and obviously within the realm of science fiction, the all too plausible consequences that ripple out from its discovery are what make the animated thriller feel furiously relevant, dryly hilarious and strangely haunting.
The panacea in question is the “blue angel,” a rare Peruvian mushroom with the nigh-supernatural ability to cure anything from dementia to gunshot wounds to, possibly, death itself. It’s the groundbreaking find of Marshall Cuso (Dave King), a genius with the bare chest,...

Disney’s general entertainment streamer has a great library, but what’s the ad experience like?
Hulu has a ton of great content to watch. The streamer comes with originals of its own, alongside a huge library of licensed titles, including next-day streams of primetime shows from ABC and Fox, titles from the FX cable network, and a lot more.
Unfortunately, Hulu also has the reputation of having one of the worst advertising experiences of any streaming service. I took a deep dive into the streamer to see what watching ads on Hulu is really like. You can read my thoughts below to see if ad-supported Hulu is the right choice for you.

A horror comedy called The Invisible Raptor had its world premiere at the 2023 Sitges Film Festival and then made the festival rounds for a year. For a while, the film had a 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes – and even though that number has gotten lower since The Invisible Raptor received a theatrical and digital release (courtesy of Well Go USA) back in December, the audience score is still at 93%. Now, the film is set to reach Blu-ray on February 4th (copies can be pre-ordered Here), and ahead of that release, a trio of clips have been unveiled. You can watch one in the embed above and two more at the bottom of this article.
Directed by Mike Hermosa from a screenplay by Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham, The Invisible Raptor has the following synopsis: After a top-secret experiment goes wrong, a hyper-intelligent invisible raptor escapes the lab and begins wreaking havoc in the surrounding neighborhood.

When “Severance” premiered almost three years ago, its willingness to marry the tedium of corporate culture with heady sci-fi felt novel. It took “Office Space” and filtered it through an almost Gilliam-esque view of the world. A story that literalized the split between our office and home selves worked not only as an in-your-face metaphor about the drudgery of giving half of yourself to a capitalistic enterprise, but also because of an ever-evolving mystery of what exactly Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro) were actually doing in macrodata refinement.

Spoiler Alert for NCIS season 22, episode 7, "Hardboiled"
Agent Parker refers to Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS season 22, and the comment shows how Mark Harmon's legacy is getting in the way of Gary Cole's character taking control of the team. Cole assumed the lead role in the CBS procedural after Mark Harmon exited NCIS in season 19, episode 4, "Great Wide Open," with the Office Space actor playing a fundamental role in the plot that bids Gibbs farewell. After a case takes Gibbs and McGee to Alaska, the agent in charge decides to stay in Naktok Bay due to his newfound sense of peace.
NCIS introduces Parker in tandem with Gibbs' swan song plot, making him the FBI agent tasked with arresting the McRt leader. Ultimately, Parker refuses to arrest Gibbs and gets fired from the FBI. Coincidentally, however, he takes Gibbs' place after McGee refuses the role. NCIS season 22...

Hulu’s best movies of January 2025 show that the platform is kicking the new year off with a lot of great viewing options. However, the platform also offers subscribers a large movie library with classic movies, new releases, and even some Hulu-exclusive options.

Exclusive: Independent television pilots made some noise in 2024 with series such as Mark Duplass’ Penelope landing at Netflix.
The team behind Books, a comedy pilot, hope this remains true next year.
The project is headlined by Spencer Grammer, who voices Summer Smith in Rick and Morty, and Ajay Naidu, who starred in Office Space.
Filmed at Market Block Books, an independent bookstore in Troy, New York this week, the pilot follows cancelled author Wren Wild (Grammer) as she leads a quirky crew willing to do anything to keep their bookstore alive. Naidu plays her silent partner Murry, a former book agent who has no idea what he’s doing.
The pilot comes from director Micah Khan, who recently made his feature directorial debut with The Zombie Wedding, producer Victoria Diana and cinematographer Adam Muro with Tim Cahill, Kristina Libby and Patrick Regan of 7th Draft Productions exec producing.

Sometimes, a movie just doesn't get the fair shake that it deserves, even if all of the right pieces seem to be in place. Such was the case with "The Bronze." A comedy released by Sony Pictures Classics in 2016, the film was pretty much dead on arrival and hardly registered at all with moviegoers at the time despite being written by and starring Melissa Rauch of "The Big Bang Theory" fame. Mind you, this was when the CBS sitcom was still thriving on the air. So, what went wrong?
For those who may not be familiar, "The Bronze" centers on Hope Ann Greggory (Rauch). Once America's sweetheart, Hope's performance on a ruptured achilles at a prestigious gymnastics tournament when she was younger brought glory to her small hometown in Ohio. In the years since that third place victory, however,...

Over the years, many hilarious comedy movies have actually underperformed at the box office. Even beloved classics like Office Space and Wet Hot American Summer completely flopped upon their original release, barely managing to recuperate their budget (if they were even able to do so at all). For a variety of reasons, many comedy movies fail to receive the love they deserve until later on.
Unfortunately, the past decade has seemed to continue this trend. Some of the most laugh-out-loud funny comedies have wound up being financial failures, despite consistently being able to get big laughs out of their viewers. Of course, the box office numbers are far from the most important indicator of a film's quality, especially when that film's primary goal is to make its viewers laugh. These recent comedy movies may have failed to attract huge audiences to the theater, but they don't fail to bring big laughs when they're needed most.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Almost Starred In Office Space? (Photo Credit – Koimoi)
Office Space is an all-time classic, right? But hold up—what if I told you that Good Will Hunting legends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were almost the stars? Yep, for real. Back in the day, Fox was all about casting Ben and Matt for the role that went to Ron Livingston. But here’s the plot twist: Ron Livingston’s audition was straight-up fire and couldn’t be ignored.
Mike Judge, the genius behind the film, was looking for someone who didn’t have “star energy”—and Affleck and Damon riding high on their fame. He met with Matt Damon, who was super into the script but still knew Livingston was his guy. “I’d found Peter,” Judge said. And that’s how Peter Gibbons, the ultimate office drone, was born.

The Just Go with It cast is full of A-list movie stars like Adam Sandler and Nicole Kidman and acclaimed comedy talents like Kevin Nealon and Rachel Dratch. A remake of the classic 1969 farce Cactus Flower, Just Go with It reimagines the tale of lies and deception as a feel-good romantic comedy. A cosmetic surgeon recruits his office manager and her kids to pose as his family to woo his latest love interest. In line with rom-com traditions, true love is right in front of the main character as he falls for his fake wife.
Just Go with It was one of Adam Sandlers biggest hits at the box office, grossing roughly $215 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). This story of a fake marriage turning into a real marriage also marked the first on-screen pairing of Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Walmart hopes customers see its next ad campaign as something more along the lines of a TV series rather than a TV commercial.
The retailing giant hopes to get consumers in the mood for Black Friday deals with a ten-part “series” of commercials that talk up great bargains that are available at its stores. Walmart has tapped actors including Taye Diggs, Lisa Rinna, Ian Somerhalder, Anthony Ramos, Chad Michael Murray Jake Shane and Walton Goggins to take part in vignettes that are likely to remind viewers of video favorites such as “Bridgerton,” “Yellowstone,” “Friday Night Lights” or “Vampire Diaries.”
Each ad contains a sneak preview of the next in the series, and also highlights a Black Friday offer. The first piece in the series, a preview of the campaign, is expected to surface Monday.

“Fight Club” is back. And its not pulling any punches.
For its 25th anniversary, New Regency and 20th Century Studios are celebrating with a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, overseen by director David Fincher, a theatrical re-release and a companion art book, released by Insight Editions, that features “never-before-seen visuals, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes content” (according to the official release).
The new version of the movie has been “meticulously remastered,” “offering audiences the chance to experience the film with sharper detail than ever before.” Considering that the movie amassed its massive cult following via its home video releases, including a groundbreaking, award-winning two-disc special edition DVD in 2000, this is big news. The last time the film was released was on Blu-ray in 2009 for the movie’s 10th anniversary.

Sean Astin may not be getting the Goonies sequel he’s hoping for, but he does have a role in an upcoming movie that has a shot at achieving cult classic status: a horror comedy called The Invisible Raptor, which will be receiving a theatrical and digital release (courtesy of Well Go USA) on December 6th. The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Sitges Film Festival and currently, with seven reviews, has a 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Considering the first two Superman movies made over $500 million at the worldwide box office, it was absolutely no surprise that a Superman III would take flight. Besides, it was promised in the closing credits of Superman II!
With the success of Superman and its sequel, superhero movies were in the earliest iteration of franchise mode. In short: strong box office numbers guaranteed another movie, no matter how bad it could possibly turn out. And Superman III is just about as bad as it could possibly turn out, generally ranking among the worst superhero sequels ever and a prime example of what happens to a series’ reputation when things go wrong with the script, cast and, hell, even the opening credits sequence!
So, let’s go from Superman to Super-Mean to Super-Machine as we find out: What Happened to This Movie?!

Colin Farrell is far from the first person to make his mark playing famous Batman rogue The Penguin in HBO’s aptly named new series “The Penguin.”
Of all the superheroes, Batman’s villains are the most recognizable. Among them The Penguin stands as possibly the most recognizable behind only the Joker. That’s led to quite a number of actors getting a crack at the character over the years beginning way back in the mid-60s.
There have been a few one-off performances in TV or animated movies where people lent their voice, but these 10 performers made their mark on the character especially felt. Before you get too deep into “The Penguin,” go back and appreciate the long history of the Batman villain on the big and small screen.

There is a spin-off coming to Peacock for The Office. However, it won’t include any characters from the original series and won’t even take place at the Dunder Mifflin paper company. However, it will be connected “behind the scenes.”
Here is what you need to know about the upcoming spinoff series and everything we know about it.
What Is The Office On PeacockSpin-Off About?
The Office spin-off series is not about anyone from the original series. At least not exactly. While names like Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson won’t be back, the people never shown will be. The new spin-off series will have the fictional documentarians who shot the fake documentary about Dunder Mifflin have a new assignment.
Dwight from The Office / YouTube
After “finishing” their work at Dunder Mifflin, the documentary crew has taken on a new documentary task at a different company.

The Lonely Island made a name for themselves on "Saturday Night Live" by ushering in the SNL Digital Short era of the late night sketch comedy series. Once the breakout music video for "Lazy Sunday" became one of the earliest viral videos on YouTube (long before "SNL" sketches were officially uploaded to the video website), The Lonely Island felt the pressure of delivering hilarious pre-recorded bits almost every single week during their time on the show.
It should comes no surprise that their most successful bits were various music videos, often featuring rap or R&b tunes with a comedic touch. This ranges from raunchy holiday fare like "D**k in a Box" with Justin Timberlake to the movie-fueled "Jack Sparrow" featuring "Office Space" punchline Michael Bolton as a major cinephile, the latter of which is Andy Samberg's favorite, as confirmed in a recent episode of The Lonely Island and...

Pills, porno, Pokemon cards – The Three P’s! Mysterious Ways reminds us there’s more to faith than avoiding these sins of the flesh in director Tyler Eaton’s comedic and demonic feature debut. Anchored by strong performances and an equally strong message, the film asks viewers to place faith in each other above all, even if one of us is a devoted Bigfoot truther.
Mysterious Ways follows religious siblings Denise (Alyssa Sabo) and her brother Charlie (Brandon Raman) as they attempt to pick up the pieces of their congregation after their parents’ deaths. Children of a pastor, the duo find themselves embarking on much different paths. Denise desperately clings to the church, immersing herself in everything from worship group sleepovers to teen graphic novels featuring Christ crusaders fighting Satanists with Uzi’s. On the flip side is Charlie, slowly becoming disillusioned with his life, planning to escape his situation...

Image Source: 20th Century Studios You’d never know it from the number of people who can still quote so many lines from the film, but Office Space is now 25 years old. The film was the first live-action film for writer/director Mike Judge, who’d built up his Hollywood cachet after creating the MTV sensation Beavis & Butt-head and making their first film, Beavis & Butt-head Do America. Judge’s reputation was enough to attract one of TV’s hottest stars at the time, Friends’s Jennifer Aniston, who signed on to what was, at the time, considered a low-budget film. Over the years, we’ve spoken to Aniston about her involvement in Office Space, and she admitted that, at the time, she merely considered it a fun distraction during her down time from “Friends,” but it wound up becoming something much bigger. Jennifer Aniston played the role of Rachel Green for ten years and won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her performance. The actress starred in the sitcom Friends for ten seasons and was one of the most popular characters in the culture-defining show. Her career skyrocketed after her tenure in the sitcom.
However, despite it being a decade since the show ended, many critics have called Aniston out for still playing Rachel in other roles. Some critics of her latest TV offering The Morning Show have accused her of being a bad actor and of struggling to move on from Rachel’s persona.

Writer Bill Zehme profiled easy-listening icon Barry Manilow for Rolling Stone in 1990, and he opened his piece with a devastating observation: “When your name is a punchline, you live in hell. Barry Manilow lives in hell.” Manilow’s fans disagreed, of course, but for the rest of us, Zehme tapped into something deeply true about our feelings regarding the adult-contemporary artist. His songs were so epically cringey that his very name came to embody something noxious. His name became a shorthand for cheesy.
Over the years, other artists have had to deal with a similar fate. Sure, they’re wildly popular, but to a contingent of music junkies, their bland, feel-good songs are anathema. For quite a while, one such artist was Michael Bolton. And in 1999, Mike Judge decided to literally make Bolton’s name a punchline in Office Space by giving one of his miserable office-drone characters (played by David Herman) the same name.

Despite all the cases of the Mondays and crappy copiers that he suffered, a quarter of a century later, it’s time to admit that we’d all be so lucky to be Peter Gibbons.
In 1999, Mike Judge released one of his many masterworks satirizing the doldrums of life in middle-class America. Released just a year before the dot-com bubble burst, Office Space told the story of a software engineer racked with malaise while he goes through the motions at a hilariously un-exaggerated bureaucracy of a business, the dreaded Initech.
In his job, Peter is responsible for updating bank software to prepare for Y2K and submitting Tps reports with cover sheets. And, apparently, the demands of Peter’s position are so severe and excruciating that, 25 years later, so much of America’s white collar workforce still treats Office Space like it’s some kind of corporate Dante’s Inferno.

One of the near casualties of Zaslav’s reign of cancellation at Warner Bros. was the new animated series from Batman: The Animated Series guru Bruce Timm. The show Batman: Caped Crusader brings back Timm’s famous style and is thrown back to the very early era of the Bat-Man comic book from the 1930s and 40s. Thankfully, Amazon stepped in to pick up the show for Prime Video and now, the trailer to the animated series has now been made available online.
The series is billed as a “reimagining of the Batman mythology” that will utilize “state-of-the-art animation techniques and technologies available, this powerful creative partnership will once again reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.”

We’ve seen plenty of movies take place in the corporate world, but few of them have ever touched upon the monotony of the experience quite like “Office Space,” Mike Judge’s incisive takedown of cubicles, office managers, and the drudgery of a Nine to Five in a soulless office building. In fact, one needn’t have worked in an office to relate to its characters who search for something meaningful in their boring jobs. The Iron Giant deserved more love as a beautiful sci-fi story with deep themes. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was ahead of its time, with Edgar Wright's idiosyncratic style blending action and humor. Office Space satire on corporate culture was released too early, gaining relevance after the 2009 recession.
Its amazing to witness just how much the movie landscape has transformed itself over the past decade and to imagine what movies would have been far more successful had they been released 10 years later. With cultural changes and technological advances constantly ongoing, many movies were released just a few short years before their time and could have resonated far more deeply with audiences had their release been delayed. This was a sad reality of being on the cutting edge, but it also meant that viewers could look back fondly at films that were underappreciated in their own time.

Not just fictional characters, but also real-life celebrities later shared iconic names with movie characters. Famous names like Steve Martin, Tom Hardy, and Chris Pratt were originally associated with fictional characters. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes accidentally, famous names are given to movie characters, leading to surprising connections.
While it was not uncommon for movie characters to be named after famous people, it was not often that it happened the other way around. Looking back on old movies, it was very distracting when a regular character with a seemingly insignificant name ended up with a title that later became insanely recognizable. While these were merely coincidences at the time, iconic names such as Homer Simpson or real-life celebrities like Tom Hardy have shared a title with fictional movie characters in films that were made way before their names became readily associated with them.

There’s nothing worse in this world than the rat race.
I bet when you learned there was a sequel to last year’s The Cult Of That Wilkin Boy, a story about the cult-like fandom surrounding a massive pop star, you probably weren’t envisioning an Office Space-type story to be at the heart of its sequel. Okay, that’s not entirely accurate, either, but there are definitely some points made about the literal soul-sucking nature of paperwork, legal red tape, and working for the man.
Office Space itself might not be a horror movie, but so many of us can relate to the horrors of the rigamarole of working life. Of cubicles, deadlines, pesky co-workers, the onslaught of emails—sure, it may all sound like very first-world, 21st-century problems, but they’re ubiquitous enough that so many can relate. It’s not just that work sucks, it...

One of the great dilemmas facing American society in the 2020s is the question of how much time we actually need to spend working. For many, the Covid-19 pandemic and the flexible work-from-home accommodations it ushered in were evidence that they could get their jobs done without 40 hours of synchronized work each week. Others had bigger epiphanies and decided to prioritize free time over corporate glory by “quiet quitting” or abandoning their careers altogether. It feels like the country has reached a paradoxical crossroads in which many white-collar workers are deriving a higher percentage of their identity from their jobs while simultaneously looking to spend less time doing them.
But while the vague concept of “more free time” has become the MacGuffin motivating countless workaholics to make big life changes, the problem of what to actually do with it can be harder to solve. That’s a lesson that Drew...

Mike Judge and his Office Space cast reunited at South by Southwest Film & TV Festival for a panel discussion March 9 sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter about the beloved and influential film — a title that arguably reinvented the workplace comedy for the modern age and popularized the concept of quiet quitting. While the panel discussion tackled several intriguing aspects about the film’s creation and reception (some highlights below), Judge revealed a few extra tidbits at the post-panel reception at Austin’s The Statesman restaurant.
Asked if there was anything he would change about the film (which was famously difficult to get made, with the writer-director fending off a blizzard of studio executive Tps reports, er, notes), Judge offhandedly noted he hasn’t seen his film since before it was released in 1999. Everybody in earshot of this (including star Ron Livingston) looked surprised, given the film initially flopped at the box...
