The famous Pirelli Calendar has gone through many iterations since it debuted in 1964. The calendar originally began as a means of setting the tire company apart from their competition with a project that enlisted the best artists, photographers, and models of the era. Pirelli really began to make waves, however, as their annual publication became synonymous with pinup girls and nude photo shoots, but in recent years it has made an abrupt shift towards a more feminist, inclusive 21-century vision of fashion. The brand has enlisted Annie Leibowitz to shoot the women that inspire her and Peter Lindbergh to photograph...

The new annual Pirelli Calendar looks different. The 2018 edition features an all-black cast, shot by photographer Tim Walker. The theme: Alice in Wonderland. Model Duckie Thot is Alice, Lupita Nyong'o is a dormouse, Whoopi Goldberg is the Royal Duchess, RuPaul is the Queen of Hearts and Naomi Campbell and Diddy play Royal Beheaders. The calendar also features models Djimon Hounsou, King Owusu, Thando Hopa and Adwoa Aboah. "When we get the nod, it's all, 'Off with their heads!' That's how it will feel when people see these pictures too," Diddy told The New York Times. "In a positive way,...

Frank Beddor’s The Looking Glass War series, a dark fantasy look at Alice In Wonderland, has had a strong spinoff life in comics with Hatter M, the story of Hatter Madigan who is the bodyguard to the Queen of Wonderland and head of the elite security force known as the The Millinery.
Beddor has debuted a new Young Adult prose series at BookExpo America, Hatter Madigan, which shows his early days at the Millinery. And to mark the occasion, fan of the series Whoopi Goldberg will be highlighting the series and characters on The View on Friday. Beddor literally brought his characters to life on The View by inviting a team of cosplayers dressed up as his characters to appear on the show. “The audience exploded when they saw them come out. Fantasy rules reality. The reaction was amazing.”

Following on from Sam Raimi’s endeavour into the fantastical world of Oz last spring, we now have another spin-off from the treasured and widely renowned world created by author L. Frank Baum. This time, adapting his grandson Roger S.Baum’s novel, directors Will Finn and Dan St. Pierre bring us Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, delving into this surreal universe in computer animated form.
Though biding her time in Kansas, Dorothy (Lea Michele) is alerted to the danger ongoing in her beloved Oz, with the dastardly Jester (Martin Short) wreaking havoc in the name of the Wicked Witch of the West, turning innocent civilians into marionettes. Transported back magically with the help of the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) and the Cowardly Lion (James Belushi), Dorothy then has a task on her hands to reach the castle, embarking on an adventure across Oz alongside...

The year of Baggins, Potter and Spider-Man also had a wealth of lesser-known movies. Here’s our pick of 2002's underappreciated films...
At the top of the box office tree, 2002 was dominated by fantasy and special effects. Peter Jackson's The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers made almost a billion dollars all by itself, with Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets taking second place and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man not too far behind.
In many ways, 2002 set the tempo for the Hollywood blockbuster landscape, which has changed relatively little in the decade since. A quick look at 2013‘s top 10, for example, reveals a markedly similar mix of superhero movies, with Iron Man 3 still ruling the roost at the time of writing, followed by effects-heavy action flicks and family-friendly animated features.

They say three's a crowd, but apparently none of the studios planning movies based on "The Jungle Book" have heard that adage.
Disney is the latest studio to hop onto the "Jungle Book" re-tooling boat, putting yet another egg into the House of Mouse's live-action reboot-heavy basket.
Yep, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed today that the Rudyard Kipling classic has been ordered to a live-action script by Justin Marks, who recently penned an adaptation of "The Raven" as well as a "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," and is now on the prowl for a director to attach to the pic.
Disney, of course, housed the beloved 1967 animated and sing-songy adaptation which taught us all about how about how to forget about our worries and strife and so forth as Mowgli and Baloo the Bear pranced around the wilderness philosophizing and otherwise just steering clear of the toothy tiger Shere Khan. Ah,...

Last weekend the wall-eyed animated nightmare The Croods was an unexpected slam-dunk at the box office. Like many of you, we were sent into fits of existential panic over the lumpy, prehistoric countenances of the film's jug-faced-yet-allegedly-lovable lead characters, and probably won't be checking out the film anytime soon. After all, we already have plenty of other kid-targeted flicks to pepper our dreams with flashes of unintended terror. Here are a few of the most scarring examples.
(Note - we're focusing here on kids' movies that are way creepier than they probably intended to be, so classic kid-scarring genre flicks like The Dark Crystal, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Watcher in the Woods, etc. are off the table.)
The Peanut Butter Solution

We've got a shitload of lists on this website. Top 10 most brutal women in horror, top buggy movies, top animal attacks; we even recently had top supermarket horror films. But we may have reached another level with this one… Film's Most Frightening Rabbits!
Bunnies are generally cute and cuddly so you'd think that "evil" ones would be a pretty rare find, right? Well, think again, my friend! Bunnies aren't always as cute as Anna Farris and Angela Bettis in May. Sometimes those flop-eared bastards are downright nasty. Sinister rabbits have made their presence known in all types of movies.
We celebrate this list in conjunction with the release of Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, the long anticipated sequel to Silent Hill, which hits theaters on Friday, October 26.
There have been plenty of disturbing rabbits in film. One of the most disturbing that immediately comes to mind is Eminem's character, Jimmy "Rabbit" Smith in 8 Mile.

It's only three weeks since the Avengers began to arrive in UK cinemas - and less than two weeks in the USA - and discussions are already turning to sequels.
As the film climbs past The Dark Knight, Alice in Wonderland and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace to 9th place on the all-time global chart, with a total of $1.036 billion so far, it's clear that Marvel and its owner Disney will want to assemble the Avengers again.
Director Joss Whedon has scarcely had chance to relax before being tackled about a potential follow-up, which Disney chief Bob Iger has already said is in development.
Whedon tells the La Times - in an interview just published but conducted before the film's Us opening - that he has mixed feelings about returning for Avengers 2.

I'm not particularly a fan of the whole Peter Pan story, so I didn't really make it a priority to watch a preview of the upcoming Syfy miniseries "Neverland." Sure, the same people who brought us an excellent retelling of "The Wizard of Oz" as well as a so-so exploration into "Alice in Wonderland" in the form of "Tin Man" and "Alice," were behind it. But still. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to visit Neverland, Capt. Hook, the Lost Boys and everyone else. But I'm glad I did. And when "Neverland" premieres Dec. 4 on Syfy, you will too. Written and directed by Nick Willing, who also wrote "Alice" and directed "Tin Man," this new approach to the story of Peter Pan and the creation of what would become a world where no one ages is both fun and moving at the same time. Currently, we’re in the throes of a Hollywood obsession to bring fairy tales to the big screen. It’s a fad that’s years away from peaking, leaving the sneaky triumph of “Hanna” all the more bewitching.

Keira Knightley has joined the cast of Syfy’s four-hour "Neverland" as the voice of Tinker Bell. A prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic "Peter Pan," "Neverland" is being written and directed by Nick Willing, and will air on Syfy in December 2011. Willing seems to have cornered the market on made-for-tv re-imaginings of classic tales. Among others, he's worked on 1999's "Alice in Wonderland," 2000's "Jason and the Argonauts" and SyFy's 2007 mini "Tin Man" with Zooey Deschanel. Other castmembers headed to "Neverland" include Rhys Ifans (as "Jimmy" Hook), Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins, and Charlie Rowe as a young Peter...

Written and directed by Nick Willing, who also helmed the network's 2009 miniseries "Alice" (based on "Alice in Wonderland"), "Neverland" will be a live-action prequel to J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan." Knightley joins previously announced cast members Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel and Bob Hoskins -- a solid list of...

In Contention: Guy Lodge, the site’s England-based contributor, breaks down this year’s BAFTA Award nominations, which were announced this morning: “The King’s Speech” leads the field with 14 nominations, though “Black Swan” is close behind with 12; Julianne Moore was nominated alongside her “The Kids Are All Right” co-star Annette Bening in the best actress category, which is something that only one person that I know of — ahem — has been projecting for next week’s Oscar nominations; Barbara Hershey scored a best supporting actress nod over her “Black Swan” co-star Mila Kunis; Hailee Steinfeld (“True Grit”), was nominated for best actress, not best supporting actress; a Pete Postlethwaite (“The Town”) received a posthumous best supporting actor nod “shamelessly rooted in sentiment.” Lodge notes with dismay BAFTA’s best adapted screenplay snub of “Winter’s Bone” but nod for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”; visual effects snub of “Tron: Legacy...

“Deep Vote,” an Oscar winning screenwriter and a member of the Academy, will write this column — exclusively for ScottFeinberg.com — every week until the Academy Awards. He will help to peel back the curtain on the Oscar voting process by sharing his thoughts about the films he sees and, ultimately, his nomination and final ballots, as well. His identity must be protected in order to spare him from repercussions for disclosing the aforementioned information.
Thus far, he has shared his thoughts in column one about his general preferences; column two about “Winter’s Bone” (Roadside Attractions, 6/11, R, trailer) and “Solitary Man” (Anchor Bay Films, 5/21, R, trailer); column three about “Alice in Wonderland” (Disney, 3/5, PG, trailer), “Toy Story 3” (Disney, 6/18, G, trailer), and “Mother and Child” (Sony Pictures Classics, 5/7, R, trailer); and column four about “Get Low” (Sony Pictures Classics, 7/30, PG-13, trailer), “The Kids Are All Right” (Focus Features, 7/9, R, trailer), and “The Social Network” (Columbia,...

Syfy is bringing another re-imagined take on a classic tale to life. Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, at Syfy has announced that production is set to begin ona prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic Peter Pan, entitled Neverland.
Neverland will be helmed by writer/director Nick Willing. Syfy and Mr. Willing have successfully teamed up in the past to create several Syfy television mini-series.
Willing directed the three part reinterpretation of The Wizard of Oz, Tin Man for Syfy in 2007, and wrote and directed Syfy’s spin on Alice In Wonderland, Alice in 2009.
Tin Man offered an engaging take on Oz and its central characters. The story was fresh, dynamic, and emotionally rewarding. An outstanding cast, rounded out by Richard Dreyfuss as the infamous “wizard,” brought the…

SyFy has announced that they will begin production on a new TV movie called Neverland, which will be a four-hour prequel to the story of Peter Pan. It's being written and directed by Nick Willing, who worked on Syfy's Tin Man and Alice, which were reimaginings of The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland.
Synopsis:
Sweeping in time from the turbulent seas of the pirates of the Caribbean to the back alleys of Dickensian London to a world of pure imagination, "Neverland" is the inspired origin story of one of the most cherished characters of all time, Peter Pan.
Raised on the streets of turn-of-the century London, orphaned Peter (Rowe) and his pals survive by their fearless wits as cunning young pickpockets. Now, they've been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook (Ifans) to snatch a priceless--some believe, magical--treasure which transports them to another world. Neverland is a...

The Emmy Awards are getting closer, and for fans of TV that probably means more than Oscar Night. But whether you are a television addict or not, the medium’s hiking quality means that the night of August 29th will present some of the most talented people currently working in the entertainment industry. In a year when feature films have consistently disappointed –with few exceptions –and when a hike in 3D and spectacle has also led to huge gaps in scripts and a general movie snooze-fest, TV has done its best to show that the small screen holds a lot of surprises; the list of this year’s nominees is a first-rate display of shows and performances that have often surpassed their big screen counterparts. Who said TV had an inferiority complex?

Thelma Schoonmaker — who is working with Martin Scorsese as editor on his new movie Hugo Cabret — has revealed to Empire that the storied director was keen to shoot the project in 3-D because it creates a different feel to a movie.
“He’s always been passionate about 3-D and, as a matter of fact, we’ve started screening older 3-D movies," she said. "We looked at Avatar and Alice in Wonderland then we looked at the older ones, and we love them."
“Hitchcock’s Dial M For Murder in 3-D is a whole other movie," Schoonmaker went on. "There’s only one really dramatic shot that is 3-D in the sense that most people think of it—Grace Kelly’s being strangled, the camera’s behind her, and she reaches back for the scissors. And that’s a beautiful 3-D Shot.”
However, she also confirmed the decision to shoot Hugo Cabret...

Ok guys, we already know that 3D adaptation of Brian Selznick’s novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret is coming, and we’re all very excited to see what legendary director Martin Scorsese will do with this story.
And yes, we all had a chance to hear that he’s very excited by 3D as well, but trust us, it looks that this project is going to be an extraordinary one…
Scorsese previously said: “if the camera move is going to be a 3D effect, it has to be for dramatic purposes – not just throwing spears at the audience. And that, maybe I can’t do that. Maybe my daughter’s generation, she’s 10 now, can think that way.”
And now, a little update! Filmmaker’s longtime collaborator/editor Thelma Schoonmaker added:

Everything old is/will be new again in Hollywood. And it's not just the standard issue remakes, sequels, and prequels that are responsible for it, but thanks to the success of Sherlock Holmes and Alice in Wonderland, the studios are searching the public domain vaults for recognizable, crowd-pleasing titles that they can get for free.
The most popular title in this new trend is without question The Wizard of Oz. Currently, there are four - count 'em, four - projects in various stages of development based on L. Frank Baum's characters and story. Sam Raimi will direct Oz: The Great and Powerful starring Robert Downey, Jr., Drew Barrymore has been mentioned to helm the sequel Surrender Dorothy, and Todd McFarlane is still working on a dark, gothic version of the story. That's nothing new to Oz: The 1939 movie everybody knows was the 13th attempt at a film adaptation in 20 years.

Last night, HeyUGuys attended the World Premiere of Disney’s new movie, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (you can see all our coverage here). The big change in this premiere to all others was the location in which it was staged. Rather than bringing the world’s press to London’s famous and historic Leicester Square, the premiere was hosted by the brand spanking new shopping centre, Westfield which is located in Shepherd’s Bush – a place that unless you live in the UK, you’ve probably never heard of!
I’ve tried to find information on what and when the first ever movie premiere was held in Leicester Square but have so far failed to find the information. I did however come across information on the first ever Royal Premiere on BigBusTours.com who tell us:

I could write a post discussing 3D every single day as a new film will be released in the format or discussion arises over the effect 3D is going to have on the future of film. Back in March Martin Scorsese raised a few eyebrows when he weighed in with his thoughts on 3D saying, "We see in depth, for the most part. We go to the theater -- it's in depth. Why couldn't a film like Precious be in 3D? It should be." To which many people said (myself included), "Really Marty?"
As it turns out his reply is, "Yes, really, and I am going to now do my own movie in 3D."
The news comes via Variety saying Scorsese's The Invention of Hugo Cabret for Columbia Pictures will be shot in 3D and released on December 9, 2011. Of course, the main bit of news here is that Scorsese will...

We've also previewed the next three years in 3-D releases: animated flicks like "Cars 2," comic book adaptations like "Green Lantern," genre works like "Sucker Punch" and more.
Now we turn our attention to films we're not exactly sure will get the 3-D treatment but we have a pretty strong feeling will. From the "Twilight" franchise to big-budget action productions to live-action/animation hybrids, here are the movies we think might well be...

Dear Mr. Burton: What happened to you? You used to be so creative, have such imagination. You were strange, unknowable but always managed to imbue your films with such heart and feeling. From “Ed Wood” to “Edward Scissorhands” to “Beetlejuice” your films have always entertained and inspired us. But when you undertook to usurp the brilliant work of Gene Wilder with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” you crossed the line, and you’ve never come back. “Alice in Wonderland,” or “Alice in Blunder-land” as Scott calls it, marks a new low in your descending career. Why such harsh words for you? You’ll have to listen to find out!
Also, Scott and I go off on a tangent about the enigma that is Nicolas Cage. Genius? Abomination? Or both? How can the same actor be responsible for both “Raising Arizona” and “Ghost Rider”? It boggles the mind.

I love top 1o articles, its a great way to get debate going for a few hours. I try not to make a habit of doing them all the time but today I was sort of inspired. I recently saw Alice In Wonderland this weekend and it donned on me that we still have 2 months before the summer movies grace us with the their presence, I then began to wonder what films I was actually excited about seeing this summer. I have now compiled the top 10 movies I Can’t Wait to See This Summer.
So all of you know I consider the summer movie season to begin in May and end in July. So movies looked at were only in those release periods, not before or afterwards. Oh yeah I left Iron Man 2 off the list because that one just seemed to easy to get excited for, also...

Arjuna, a regular reader and frequent commenter, emailed in with an editorial idea as a follow-up to my "Will You Pay to Upgrade to a 3D TV?" post wondering how much 3D has affected film piracy.
The question as Hollywood appears to be turning to 3D for more and more of their blockbuster releases, many of which are being converted from 2D to 3D such as the recently released Alice in Wonderland and the upcoming Clash of the Titans. However, to this point very few of these films were actually shot in 3D, which means the experience will likely differ from one film to the next, or at least that is the assumed logic from one to the next.

Below you will see a new poster for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which features Ben Kingsley looking menacing, Gemma Arterton looking sultry, and Jake Gyllenhaal looking heroic and hairy but not remotely Persian. It's basically the character posters we've been seeing for months now, except with everyone in one place this time. In other words, big yawn. I don't know why this movie feels so much more hyped than, say, Iron Man 2, which comes out a week earlier, but it's becoming the new Alice in Wonderland in terms of "movies for which I am sick of writing about promotional materials." Just get the damn movie out there already. In the meantime, check out the poster below and ponder the meaning of the big red cloth tied around Jake's waist.

Anne Hathaway has admitted to channelling Nigella's 'sensuality' for her White Queen in Alice in Wonderland. But she's only blown the whistle on the greatest source of character inspiration in modern cinema
Aside from the boycott drama and the mixed reviews, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland has drawn attention for one reason: Anne Hathaway's portrayal of the White Queen. Apparently, it's based entirely on Nigella Lawson. Tim Burton hinted as much last month, noting Lawson's ability to look "really nuts", and Hathaway herself confirmed the rumours this week by praising Lawson's "passion" and "sensuality".
To the uninitiated, all this Nigella talk might seem like nothing more than a cheap ploy to get a few more dads to go to the pictures. But in reality Burton and Hathaway are simply tapping into a long history of movie characters based on television chefs. It's a little-known fact that almost...

The "Jersey Shore" cast stopped by "The View" today (Tue. Feb. 23), but the showdown we were hoping for never went down.
Instead of watching some kind of brawl between trash talking Joy Behar and the cast, we felt like we were watching visiting day at the old folks' home.
Even as we watched the show's "Hot Topics" segment it seemed fireworks were in store when the cast arrived. Behar, once again, restated her position that the MTV show portrayed negative Italian-American stereotypes.
Whoopi Goldberg wore a huge top hat like the one worn by The Mad Hatter in "Alice in Wonderland" saying that having the cast as guests made her feel like she "fell down the rabbit hole." Oh, this is going to be good, we thought.
We creeped until our favorite guidos and guidettes finally took to the couch. When they did? Nothing.
