“SNL” revived its beloved “Black Jeopardy” sketch for its 50th anniversary, except this time with Eddie Murphy playing Tracy Morgan.
In the sketch, Kenan Thompson returned as the host of “Black Jeopardy,” introducing the sketch by saying “Welcome to ‘Black Jeopardy,’ the only ‘Jeopardy’ where every single viewer fully understood Kendrick’s halftime performance,” referencing Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show at last week’s Super Bowl.
Leslie Jones also returned as Shanice alongside Morgan, who played a man named Darius, and Murphy, who played “Tracy Morgan.”
“Darius, Tracy, y’all seem like you might be related,” Thompson said, though Murphy’s Morgan immediately rejected the idea, saying “Well, James Earl Jones is my biological father. James Earl Jones impregnated my mother on the set of ‘Claudine.’ You know what? We might be related.”
Still, Morgan, said, “I don’t see it.”

“Black Jeopardy,” one of Kenan Thompson’s most popular recurring “Saturday Night Live” sketches, came back to 30 Rock during the show’s 50th anniversary special on Sunday. As usual, Thompson played host Darnell Hayes aka Alex Treblack, with contestants being played by former cast members Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan and, most notably, Eddie Murphy.
The biggest laughs were earned by Murphy, who did an impression of Morgan, while Morgan played a man named Darius and Jones played a woman named Shanice.
“Welcome to ‘Black Jeopardy,’ the only ‘Jeopardy’ where every single viewer fully understood Kendrick’s halftime performance,” Thompson said, opening the sketch with a reference to Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl appearance.
As Thompson introduced him, Murphy called out, “Big dog gonna make some big money!” in an exaggerated put-on of Morgan’s voice.
“Now wait a minute, Tracy. Don’t you already have a lot of money?” Thompson asked him.

Questlove can still remember seeing Billy Preston perform on the first Saturday Night Live on Oct. 11, 1975. Technically, he wasn’t allowed to watch TV, but his parents were Soul Train devotees who wanted their son, then four, to absorb “anything musical,” he says. To get him ready for its 1 a.m. start time, they’d wake him up at 12:30… as Lorne Michaels’ brand-new sketch show was airing. “Back then, Weekend Update was a two-part thing, and then the musical guest would do two songs after, and then [again] right before 1 a.

As a kid, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson would go to bed on Saturday nights at 8:30 p.m., but his parents were “cool enough” to wake him up to watch the musical performances on Saturday Night Live as well as Soul Train. So when he got the call from Lorne Michaels to direct a documentary of the musical side of the series celebrating 50 years, he was ready.
But he did more research. “I knew those episodes by heart,” says Questlove, who got the call in 2020 to work on Ladies & Gentlemen … 50 Years of SNL Music and was 4 years old when SNL launched in 1975. “I was trying to do the math in my head. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s 2020 and the anniversary is in 2025. If I can do about five to seven episodes daily, then maybe I can catch up to it.”

There’s a scene in Questlove and co-director Oz Rodriguez’s “Ladies and Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music” (which airs January 27 on NBC) that has, as far as we know, the only cultural intersection of Eddie Murphy and John Belushi appearing on screen together. Ever. It’s 1981 and former cast member John Belushi pulled some strings to get the punk rock band Fear booked as musical guests on Halloween alongside host Donald Pleasance. Much has been made about Fear’s controversial performance over the years. And, in reality, the massive wave of destruction to hit 30 Rock that night wasn’t much more than a few kids slam dancing on the stage. Two of those “kids” being Belushi — who is in full slam dancing mode and is hard to spot, but we know he’s there – and another being Murphy, who climbs up on the back of the stage mostly...

Beetlejuice 2 reveals the fates of Delia and Charles Deetz, but the movie doesn't technically show whether or not the couple gets on the Soul Train at the end of the sequel. Though Delia and Charles are returning characters in Beetlejuice 2, only Catherine O'Hara reprises her role, considering only half of Charles' body appears in the movie. Jeffrey Jones doesn't return in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2, but the details surrounding Charles' death at the start of the movie allow for his presence through some storytelling tricks.
By the end of Beetlejuice 2, Charles and Delia are reunited in the afterlife, meaning their time apart doesn't last too long at all. Charles' death in Beetlejuice 2 is shared by a stop-motion sequence, revealing a deadly shark attack following a plane crash. The lower half of Charles is then seen a few times throughout the sequel as he wonders about the afterlife.

After it ultimately went unaddressed in the 1988 original movie, one question that Adam and Barbara Maitland had about the afterlife was finally answered in Beetlejuice 2. Putting the ghosts in the same boat as the audience, Adam and Barbara were completely confused by the inner workings of Beetlejuices afterlife and its rules following their deaths. When Adam first reads the Handbook for the Recently Deceased, he remarked that it reads like stereo instructions, meaning the couple had to figure out their new afterlife predicament largely on their own.
Many aspects of the functions and processes of the afterlife remained a mystery after Beetlejuices 1988 ending, but Beetlejuice 2 thankfully arrived 36 years later to clear up a few details. While Adam and Barbara dont appear in Beetlejuice 2s cast of characters, there are various other new and returning dead figures who help explore more of the afterlife, such as Betelgeuse, Wolf Jackson,...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Beetlejuice 2!Tim Burton set his sights on a certain celebrity for a cameo role in Beetlejuice 2, which would have also solved a major mystery surrounding the afterlife. The Beetlejuice franchise's Neitherworld is explored on a grander scale in Burton's sequel, expanding the realm and introducing new faces who work down there. Of course, the return of the afterlife also paves the way for more new characters in Beetlejuice 2, including those who have died in very strange ways. Aside from Juno and Miss Argentina, most of the dead are seen as ghosts in the Neitherworld waiting room, but that part of the lore gets an upgrade in the sequel.

Some fans of Dancing with the Stars are still processing the surprising early exits of “90210” actress Tori Spelling and Anna Delvey, the infamous “fake German heiress.” Despite their eliminations, the Sept. 24 episode set a new benchmark in fan engagement, attracting over 14 million votes—more than any episode in the show’s history, as confirmed by ABC.

Dancing With the Stars had two nights of performances since the show was not on air the previous week. On Monday, Oct. 7, the contestants celebrated Soul Train Night while Tuesday was Hair Metal Night as they danced to rock anthems. Since there were two performances this week, there was a double elimination, so we sadly said goodbye to two celebrities.
All of the couples put their best feet forward and while there were some performances that didn’t go to plan, leaving Ilona Maher in tears on night two for example, it was still fun to watch, especially with guest judges Rosie Perez on night one and rocker Gene Simmons on night two.
Who went home after two nights of performances on Dancing With the Stars?
The scores for both nights were combined and their total reflected both dances, even though the elimination only took place on the second night of the competition.

We can only imagine how Dancing With the Stars fans feel about Gene Simmons as a guest judge.
Especially after some questioned Rosie Perez’s credentials when she was guest host for Soul Train night despite actually having been a Soul Train dancer.
But we don’t have to guess because many DWTS viewers were very vocal about his appearance.
And it’s hard to find anyone who was actually excited or impressed to see the Kiss frontman on the judges’ panel on Tuesday night.
It seems that the criticism was two-fold.
Some weren’t convinced that leading a legendary rock band qualified Gene Simmons to judge anyone’s dance moves, and others just weren’t impressed with his misogynistic commentary.
Gene Simmons was in bad form on Dancing With the Stars
It should surprise no one that Gene Simmons can be a bit sexist and not even realize how...

Once more for the people in the back: way to go, you!
Your votes — however many you decided to register on Sept. 24– helped Dancing with the Stars to hit a major milestone. More than 14 million votes were tabulated that night, the most received on a single episode in series history! Either that means you really love you some Ilona Maher or you would have done whatever it took to make sure Anna Delvey was given her walking papers.
And get this: it didn’t stop there. A whopping 15 million voted on hair metal night! It had to be all the bag wigs and the presence of special guest judge-cum-world renowned ballroom expert Gene Simmons, right? Clearly, DWTS fans are clearly more engaged than ever, which is a good sign for ABC. That means we’ll have TV’s best variety show for years to come!

It had to be all the bag wigs and the presence of special guest judge-cum-world renowned ballroom expert Gene Simmons, right? Clearly, DWTS fans are clearly more engaged than ever, which is a good sign for ABC. That means we’ll have TV’s best variety show for years to come!
Let’s get to it!

Every season on Dancing with the Stars, there are celebrity guest judges.
This year, it’s Rosie Perez, and she’s there to add her expertise to Soul Train Night.
After all, before Rosie was best known for White Men Can’t Jump, she made her mark, bringing her hip-hop moves to Soul Train in the 1980s.
So it’s only fitting for her to be on hand for this special night on DWTS.
Some viewers are more than excited to see her on that judges’ panel.
Meanwhile, some DWTS critics want to know what Rosie Perez has done to earn a spot alongside Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba.

Bartees Strange has announced a new album, Horror, due out February 14th via 4Ad. To preview the album, the songwriter has shared a music video for lead single “Sober.” Watch it below.
Horror follows Strange’s acclaimed 2022 effort Farm to Table, as well as a handful of loosies from various compilations, soundtracks, and single releases. The record boasts production and contributions from Jack Antonoff and is set to further expand Strange’s eclectic blend of genres.
“In a way, I think I made this record to reach out to people who may feel afraid of things in their lives too,” Strange said of Horror. “For me it’s love, locations, cosmic bad luck, or that feeling of doom that I’ve struggled with for as long as I can remember. I think that it’s easier to navigate the horrors and strangeness of life once you realize that everyone around you feels the same.

When Tim Burton set out to cast Batman, his pick for the caped crusader was nothing short of unconventional. Enter Michael Keaton—an actor best known for his comedic chops, not exactly the brooding, chiseled vigilante type. But that’s where Burton’s kind of crazy genius kicked in. He wasn’t looking for your typical superhero.

Burton saw something in Keaton that screamed unpredictability—something that could capture Bruce Wayne’s tortured duality in a way no one else could. Forget muscles; Keaton had the manic energy that Batman needed, and Burton was all in on it. Against all odds (and fan backlash), this oddball decision turned into one of the most iconic superhero portrayals in cinematic history.

Heavy spoilers for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" to follow.
Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice" has a rather peculiar relationship with death. It flips the script on the possession horror film; rather than having evil ghosts haunting the living, it follows a ghost couple being terrorized by an obnoxious family in their own home. Additionally, the film's portrayal of the afterlife is neither a hellish inferno nor a perfect utopia. Instead, it is horribly dull and ridden with bureaucracy. But it doesn't stop there; "Beetlejuice" also has some, shall we say, creative takes on dying, like how its young heroine Lydia (Winona Ryder) spends most of the movie saying she wants to die by suicide so she can spend more time with her ghost friends. Death is absurd, unpredictable, and even alluring in the world of "Beetlejuice."
It makes sense, then, that the sequel would double down on the deaths. "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" begins with...

Warning: major spoilers for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice made some big reveals about the title bio-exorcist, the Deetzes, and the afterlife, but it also left some big unanswered questions and mysteries that a third movie must solve (if it happens). In 1988, Tim Burton introduced the world to Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a chaotic bio-exorcist cursed to be trapped in the Neitherworld but who can be summoned by saying his name three times. However, summoning Beetlejuice means unleashing horrifying chaos in the land of the living and the Neitherworld, though with his unique sense of humor.
Over thirty years after the events of the first movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reunites the audience with Lydia (Winona Ryder), Delia (Catherine OHara), and Astrid Deetz (Jenna Ortega) as they return to Winter River following Charles death. When the skeptical Astrid ends up in the Neitherworld after being tricked by her date, Lydia summons Beetlejuice to help her rescue her daughter.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice delves a lot deeper into the Neitherworld from the first movie, revealing more occupations, rules, and locations in the film's afterlife. The story of Beetlejuice 2 is relatively simple: the death of Charles Deetz sees Lydia, Delia, and Astrid, Lydia's daughter, return to the house originally owned by the Maitland family in Beetlejuice. Amid weddings and funerals, Astrid - played by Jenna Ortega in Beetlejuice 2's cast - is tricked into the afterlife, leaving Lydia no option but to enlist the help of Betelgeuse in a bid to save her daughter.
As it did in the original Beetlejuice's ending, marriage with Lydia becomes the goal of Betelgeuse in a mad journey through the afterlife. Naturally, this story means Beetlejuice 2 explores the Neitherworld in much more detail than the first movie did. By the time of Beetlejuice 2's ending, new locations, jobs, and rules about...

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is back after 36 years, and while it’s not quite the ghost with the most, it’s definitely the ghost with… some. Tim Burtons’ long-awaited sequel (I guess?) throws a lot of ideas at the wall—some stick, some slip, but hey, at least we’ve got a solid Halloween flick to kick off spooky season. Nostalgic, visually stunning, but a bit overstuffed, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice feels like attending a seance you were excited for, only to realize halfway through that the spirits might’ve been better left undisturbed.
“It’s not quite the ghost with the most, it’s definitely the ghost with… some.”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice kicks off with Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), now the host of a supernatural talk show called Ghost House—and wouldn’t you know it, Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) is still lurking, now running the afterlife’s customer service call center (because even the...

Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums list today named its top 10 albums of all-time, with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill crowned No. 1.
“This is my award,” Hill said to Apple Music, “but it’s a rich, deep narrative, and involves so many people, and so much sacrifice, and so much time, and so much collective love.”
Last year was the album’s 25th anniversary, and its success was overwhelming upon release. It won five Grammys, three American Music Awards, and a Billboard, Soul Train and MTV Video Music Award while selling 30 million copies since its bow.
But instead of capitalizing on it, Hill became one of music’s biggest enigmas. Her output diminished after an MTV Unplugged follow-up acoustic album, reverting to sporadic singles and rare appearances.

Exclusive: Anthony E. Zuiker, the creator of the hugely successful CSI TV franchise, has signed with boutique management firm Literate.
This marks a rare new addition to Zuiker’s close-knit representation team, nicknamed affectionately by the writer-producer “Team Zuiker,” who has been shaping his career and brand for more than two decades.
It follows the January death of Zuiker’s beloved manager of over 25 years, Margaret Riley, most recently of Lighthouse Entertainment, who passed away from cancer at the age of 58.
In a moving tribute for Deadline at the time, Zuiker recalled how Riley signed Zuiker on his 30th birthday, 8/17/1998, when he was still trying to break into Hollywood. Helping him land early writing gigs that led to CSI, Riley also took Zuiker to the talent agencies, with him landing at CAA with Joe Cohen, and introduced him to entertainment lawyer Kevin Yorn. Both are still members of “Team Zuiker,...

At the Grammys, Best R&b Album and Best Progressive R&b Album have gone to some of the most influential artists in the industry, including Erykah Badu, Boyz II Men, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Frank Ocean, Beyoncé and Robert Glasper (much to Chris Brown’s chagrin). Let’s break down this year’s contenders.

Best R&b Album
Emily King’s “Special Occasion” might be in fifth place here, especially considering King has the least commercial success and it’s not a particularly acclaimed album. Inversely, while Summer Walker is a huge star, the Grammys seem to be iffy on her: this is her first nomination ever despite multiple hit records. As such, it’s possible the relative lack of competition for the nomination played more of a role in...

The 66th Grammy nominations are just days away, and one of the most exciting races is Best New Artist, a category that can make or break a career. Usually an amalgamation of some of the biggest genres around, the award typically has a great mix of huge breakouts and hidden gems. But among so many worthy debutantes, which eight will make up the class of 2024?
The biggest lock for a nomination this year is Ice Spice. The Bronx rapper has made waves with her infectious style and collaborations with big artists like Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Lil Tjay, and Taylor Swift. Such major collaborations are already a big deal, but Ice has also scored hits on her own, like “In Ha Mood” and “Deli.” Following her victory at the 2023 VMAs for Best New Artist, Ice might continue her hot streak with a Grammy victory, especially with possible support from both rap and pop voters.

Bernie Taupin received a Musical Excellence Award at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony Friday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame cofounder Jann Wenner received a dig for his imprudent remarks on why certain people were included in his recent book, The Masters.
While promoting his interview-collection book in September, Wenner said that its lack of diversity in interview selections was because female musicians were never “articulate enough on this intellectual level,” and that Black artists “just didn’t articulate at that level.” The resultant outrage saw Wenner apologize, but he was subsequently dropped from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation’s board of directors.
On Friday, after Elton John gave a speech detailing his relationship with Taupin, his longtime collaborator, Taupin took to the stage. After listing his influences, talking about his work with Elton John, and...
