Several sources indicate that this film was actually shot and released in 1941 with some additional documentary footage of Cantinflas, who sued against its release as "a Cantinflas movie". His participation in the film was "involuntary". The film played at the Teatro Panamericano (Dallas) on 25 February 1944, so the indicated release date of 1946 is either incorrect or a result of legal resolution of the suit by Cantinflas. One source of this info is http://www.answers.com/topic/cantinflas. The Dallas show date was acquired from the Dallas Morning News of 20 February 1944.
The movie was actually shot in the cities of Jalapa and Veracruz in 1940. The original title is "Carnaval en Veracruz". This is more of a Medel movie than a Cantinflas. Though Cantinflas is in the movie, they are clips that were edited into the movie. You will notice that Manuel Medel and Mario Moreno are not seen together interacting at all.
