At Lachlan Farm, the family are awaiting District Nurse Kay Grant who has been delayed by Alan. The stranger from the bus, Ken Calder, has found Fiona repairing her car. He takes over and Fiona offers a can of beer but he reacts violently.
Ken admits he's an alcoholic. Amy has had a boy, Donald. Fiona gets Jimmy's help with supplies for Ken. Elizabeth is worried that Langeman wants to turn Glendarroch into a private estate. Jimmy overhears some home truths about his father.
Dougal is devastated by Amy's death. Kay demands improvements for the crofts. Ken gets a friendly visit from Duff's garage about competition. Langeman tells McIntyre his plans. Isabel gets a visit from David, her brother in law.
Elizabeth books her car in for a service to boost patronage of the garage. At the sawmill McIntyre sees surveyors on Laird's Point but Langeman denies any knowledge of their activities.
David explains why Brian is in prison for murder as Ken clears the graffiti from the garage. The village turns out for Amy's funeral. McIntyre turns down Langeman's offer. Bob has seen David with the surveyors by the loch side.
A reporter is investigating rumours that the estate is to be turned into a holiday centre. Semple reports that wood is going missing from the sawmill. McIntyre and Nurse Grant are having relationship problems.
Grace has contacted Amy's sister to ask for help with the new baby. Duff offers to buy out Ken but Maggie shows support by having her bus serviced. McIntyre argues with Dougal about his indifferent attitude to the croft.
Maggie complains her bus has not been service overnight. Elizabeth asks Fiona about her future career and contact her father Peter for help. Alice turns up at Blair's Store looking to get a lift from Dougal to Ardvain.
Lorna asks Archie to deliver fence posts to an estate property, but as usual has manages to avoid helping. Grace is worried about what the reported has told her. Jimmy puts his water sports idea to McIntyre.
Maxwell wants to interview Elizabeth about the big house. Dougal has stayed out all night but McIntyre knows where to find him. Ken thinks he has blown his interview about the fuel franchise. Archie thinks David Blair knows about his past.
David asks Maxwell's help in getting an appeal for Brian. Elizabeth argues with Fiona who ends up walking out. McIntyre confesses to Kay that he is married.
Fiona stocks up at Blair's Store and charges it to her mother's account. David is looking for accommodation in the village. Langeman has spiked Maxwell's story with his editor.
Langeman discusses changes for the estate and his plan to take a flat at the Big House. David confesses to Ken about a drink problem. Semple is suspicious when McIntyre visits the sawmill.
Elizabeth meets the architect Jane Steedman who doesn't have good news about the condition of the house. Langeman wants Elizabeth to attend a meeting in Glasgow to scotch rumours about the holiday village.
Jane begins her survey of the Big House. David questions Maggie about the night of the murder. McIntyre and Dougal come to blows over his responsibility to his sheep. Semple has done a bunk with estate funds.
Dougal thanks Alice for helping on the croft. Fiona returns to the Big House. Kay is feeling left out. McIntyre and Crawford are out chasing a grey van suspected of rustling.
Semple leaked the story to the press. Elizabeth is upset that Jane was in her private flat while she was away. Langeman asks the Minister to take him to meet Mrs Semple. Fiona walks in on Peter and Elizabeth arguing about the past.

The whole village attends the christening of Donald Lachlan, with Alice becoming his godmother. Langeman asks Steedman about the cost of converting the Big House into a five-star hotel. Blair's Store has some visitors during the night.
Ken helps Jimmy clear up from the break-in. Mr Carradine phones Elizabeth about Fiona's legacy. Alice cons Dougal into nursing Donald. The surveyor turns down the garage site. The minister asks Isabel about a parole release for Brian.
David recalls Archie was in the village on the night of the murder. Langeman and Steedman go through her report with Elizabeth. David asks Jimmy to visit Brian. Kay turns up at McIntyre's to cook dinner but won't stay the night.
Alice goes for a walk and meets Bob. Jimmy is interviewed by Langeman about the water sports scheme who explains the problems of his finances. McIntyre tells Kay about his marriage and she decides to stay the night.

David finds it difficult to accept Brian's guilt. Sorry asks Maggie to dinner and confesses that he has savings of over £750,000. Kay is planning a birthday dinner for McIntyre, who walks in with Jane Steedman.
Maggie insists on going Dutch with Sorry. McIntyre can't give Kay any commitment. Ken accepts the estate mechanic job. Bob gives Alice a book on fishing. David turns up at Laird's Point with the surveyors.
David is working for the MoD and Crown Office. Sorry Watson wants to back Jimmy's water sports scheme. Peter sympathizes with Elizabeth over Langeman's plans. Bob has tea at the Lachlan's Croft.

Elizabeth and Steedman discuss how modernisation could help in the current crisis. Dr Wallace wants to call in a rescue helicopter, but it doesn't land.
The helicopter eventually lands and Grace is transferred to hospital in Dumbarton. Steedman confesses her mother died in similar circumstances and she wasn't there. Dougal shares with Alice his worries for the future.
Maggie is still upsetting the Blairs with accusations about Brian. Alice realises that she may have to stay at the Lachlan Croft instead of marrying Bob. Elizabeth meets the new renter of the Dower House.
Jimmy and Fiona's office is being delivered tomorrow. Paul Cassell meets Elizabeth in Blair's Store but his dinner invite fails. Kay gives Alice some advice for her future. Sorry Watson arrives to launch the water sports venture.
Dr Wallace gets Dougal to visit Grace. Sorry suggests car stickers to advertise the water sports venture. Fiona borrows a typewriter from the estate for their office. David intends to get heavy with any protesters.

Maggie arrives with a busload of Countryside Action Group Protestors on her bus. Brian asks David about his family. Peter arrives from Edinburgh and says the leasehold contracts are unbreakable. Kay has been offered a job at the Western.
Jimmy feels out of place with Fiona's friends at the launch party. McIntyre phones his wife in Brazil. Paul and Peter meet in Blair's Store and go to lunch, but back at the office Peter phones his friends to get more information on him.
