The film takes place in a fictive present-day Hungarian city (most of the scenes were filmed in Romania). University professor László Sziráki, a chemist, wants to make gold out of plastic - similarly to the alchemists of the old days - but hasn't been successful with it yet. He meets an eccentric young girl named Eszténa, who is still a virgin because she does not want to sleep with her 'boyfriend' (in fact, he is more a platonic friend and protector) Maci, a professional boxer. She immediately falls for Sziráki, but both have to go through a lot of adventures till Sziráki realizes that only Eszténa can help him to make gold - and till he realizes that love is the only thing that matters...
The film features great performances (especially by Polish actor Mariusz Bonaszewski as Sziráki and Eszter Ónódi as Eszténa), beautiful camerawork, appealing set and costume design, and an interesting (though a bit weird and sometimes hardly understandable) plot. It does have some extremely (and I think unnecessarily) brutal scenes but is nevertheless an entertaining and watchable film.
