Peek-a-Boo (1953)
* 1/2 (out of 4)
This film here was released by Something Weird Video as a double feature with Hollywood BURLESQUE and both are pretty much straight burlesque shows. This one here appears to have been shot with one camera or two at the very most. The stage set-up deals with a circus and for the most part it actually looked pretty good. However, the looks aren't enough to keep one interested in this thing, which feels pretty long even at just 63-minutes. As with the other feature, this one here features some dancing, singing, comedy acts and of course women dancing around and stripping. The biggest problem here is that the girls really aren't all that attractive and some will have viewers hitting the eject button. The comedy routines are just as lousy but they're actually the reason to watch the film because they're just so strange and so unfunny that you really have to see them to believe it. There was one line that ripped off Abbott and Costello, which I'm sure their fans are going to catch. The singing here was actually decent but it's certainly not good enough to sit through the entire film. The main interest is going to be from those wanting to see what these old burlesque shows were like. The historical interest is here but there's not much else.
