Inspired by the true event when Jan Jönson directed Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" at Kumla Prison and took the ensemble of inmates to Gothenburg's City Theater for a official opening performance. Four out of five of the inmates escaped.
The painted, underground walkway scenes were not filmed at a prison but in fact at Bromma Hospital in Stockholm. Paintings were done by psychiatric patients as a form of therapy from 1970's onward. The walkway has since been demolished and the paintings have been lost.
