This is Day 120 of the WGA strike and Day 47 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Amid the heat in Los Angeles, the cast and crew members of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul hit the picket lines Tuesday at Sony Pictures Studios. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, Rhea Seehorn, Jesse Plemons and Matt Jones were among the stars seen strolling past the familiar rainbow in Culver City.
“Honestly, it just feels like it’s just beginning,” Paul told Deadline as the SAG-AFTRA strike approaches Day 50 on Friday. “It’s important for everyone out there to know we’re not going anywhere. … We’re fighting the good fight. We’re standing in solidarity with every SAG member out there, trying to make ends meet, put food on the table and do what we love.”

We’re officially entering the spooky season and while Disney+ already dropped a few scary things in September, they’re doubling down in October. One of their most Halloween-centric offerings on display is “Werewolf By Night,” which audiences first learned about just a few weeks ago during Disney’s splashy Marvel and LucasFilm panel at the D23 Expo.
Directed by longtime Pixar collaborator, and acclaimed composer, Michael Giacchino, “Werewolf By Night” is the first Marvel Halloween special. The trailer was shown during D23 Expo and looked like a beautiful tribute to old school horror films, but also heavy on the (possibly implied) gore and scares. Filmed in black and white, the special feels a complete throwback to the old-school Universal frights of the past; think “Bride of Frankenstein” or “The Invisible Man.” The special follows Gael García Bernal as a man with the ability to become a werewolf, and explores...

The joint-venture TV network that will replace Discovery Kids has hired Margaret Loesch, a family-programming veteran, to lead it as president and CEO.
Loesch, who helped create Fox Kids Network and has been involved in the development and production of such shows as "Animaniacs," "Smurfs" and "Bear in the Big Blue House," starts Aug. 17.
Loesch said the still-unnamed new company, a joint venture between toymaker Hasbro and Discovery Communications, will operate from Los Angeles and that she will be hiring about 50 people during the next year.
Maryland-based Discovery Kids will survive as an international brand but will cease to exist in the U.S. by about the middle of next year, replaced by the new joint venture.
On Thursday, Loesch notified the Hatchery, a family-media company she co-founded, that she will be stepping down as CEO in four weeks. She will finish her duties as executive producer of the TV movie "Christmas in Canaan,...

Disney to buy Muppets from Jim Henson Co.
In a deal that consummates one of the longest on-again, off-again courtships in Hollywood, the Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that it has acquired the Muppets and Bear in The Big Blue House properties from the Jim Henson Co. Although financial terms were not disclosed, sources pegged the value of the deal at about $60 million in cash plus ongoing revenue participation for Henson, which is owned by the five adult children of the company's late founder, Jim Henson. "We are honored that the Henson family has agreed to pass on to us the stewardship of these cherished assets," Disney chairman and CEO Michael Eisner said in a statement. "We are also pleased that this transaction puts us in a position to work with the Henson Co. on future projects." The deal includes a nonexclusive production and consulting agreement with the Henson Co. Under this arrangement, Henson is expected to develop potential new programming featuring the Muppets and preschool-targeted Bear, which already runs on the Disney Channel cabler.
