After Vinod Mehra's death, there were rumors that Rakesh Roshan would complete the remaining shooting of the film Gurudev. Then Vinod Mehra's friend director, Raj N.Sippy completed the film and the film was released.
Before Raj N. Sippy completed Gurudev it was said that directors Vijay Anand, Rakesh Roshan and Satish Kaushik were also requested to complete Gurudev and then finally director Raj N. Sippy agreed to complete Gurudev.
Boney Kapoor was accused of demanding Vinod Mehra to change the script. Boney denied the allegation and said that he went out of his way to help Vinod Mehra with Anil Kapoor's shooting dates.
Vinod Mehra was always interested in filmaking and finally in 1988 he started Gurudev. Everytime the shooting schedule would be cancelled due to some reason which upseted him. When the next shooting schedule was confirmed, he told his friend that the shooting will be cancelled and it was really cancelled due to strike and he died on the same day.
As director Vinod Mehra completed 80% of Gurudev with minimum number of shifts. Then it got stuck because of date hassles. If the shooting of the film had gone as planned Gurudev would have been completed very fast.
