I absolutely cannot believe this masterpiece is lost! I remember it so clearly and often wondered if it was going to be repeated... apparently not, worst luck.
For me this is the definitive version, infinitely superior to the Canadian version of (many) years later. Matthew's quiet shyness, Mrs Lynde's nosiness, Marilla's brusqueness.. and Anne... portrayed by Kim Braden with all the dreamy luminosity so evident in the books, and with none of the relentless cheesiness that often comes across in English adaptations of New World literature of this period. Kim managed to be perfectly believable as a girl far younger than herself, and inhabited Anne in a way no other actress could have done. It was easy to believe in her winning charisma and unusual beauty. This adaptation marked a seminal moment in my childhood, and every episode was a filled with joy and sorrow and often cringing embarrassment as the audience learned, along with Anne, the consequences of Pride, Vanity, Anger, Greed, Covetousness etc. etc. gently teaching as we laughed and cried along with our flawed, but wonderful heroine.
Can it REALLY be lost?
Please, someone in TV land, check your shed, your office cabinet, the attic.... Rediscover this shining and glorious work, I beg you!

This was a brilliant TV series. Very true to the book. I'd absolutely love it to be repeated in TV. All cast members protested their parts excellently. Absolutely loved it.

This was my favourite TV series of all time. My late husband put on the play of 'Anne of Green Gables' At his school, it was a great success. My mum phoned me yesterday and said 'ANNE OF GREEN GABLES' was on Sky Movies. I was lost for words when I saw it was 'Kim Braden' playing Anne!!!! I recorded it as I was working at the time - only to find out later in the evening that there wasn't enough space on the recorder! I cried! My mum has the series on VHS. She lives in France, when she next comes over I will try and have them put them on DVD. May I just add: If you have time please would you listen to my late husband
'Sebastian T Burn', I could never thank him enough for putting on the play of THE PLAY OF 'Anne of Green Gables' for me! X

I absolutely loved this series and would so love to see it again. Could the person who says he has a copy of it please email me on lindajallison@aol.com. Could I just make it very clear that I am not wanting the Anne of Avonlea BBC series starring Kim Braden - I already have it - it's the Anne of Green Gables series dated 1972 (also starring Kim Braden) that I am very much wanting. It is thought this series is lost and so I think the only way it could be seen again is if somebody happened to video it when it was shown but videoing was very new in those days. Thank you.
I love this series! Its almost better than the 'well known' Anne of Green Gables because it seems more realistic and less 'romantic' if that makes sense. You can tell that it is set up like a play, but after the first episode, your hooked. The acting is so wonderful and real. This series connects the events and emotions really really well. Its more like the book and less like a movie. I found this to be very peaceful and I found the true joy of 'Anne'. So so enjoyable! I am very sad that this series is lost. I cant seem to find anyone who has it. Please PLEASE PLEASE!!!!! Make it available to buy!!!! Gilbert and Anne are perfect!
