Currently reissued by Alpha Blue Archives on a 3-pack saluting redhead porn star Colleen Brennan (better known to me by her softcore nom Sharon Kelly), DAISY CHAIN lives up to its title. It's meant to bring the viewer to a climax, and nothing more.
Kelly is not the star, but rather a secondary player in a film about filming, with exotic Tantala Ray prima donna, carrying on outrageously on the set of an adult film. Crystal Breeze and Karen Summer also have more scene stealing screen time than Kelly, who had previously appeared for filmmaker Kirdy Stevens in his breakthrough TABOO series.
Shot on film rather than video, this film has a decent look to it as a result, and pays off with a skillfully edited climactic sequence of the cast on the floor literally arranged in a daisy chain, with "repetitive" structuring that even Stanley Kubrick might appreciate (I know, I shouldn't take his name in vain, but...). With five couples making love, we have each position and each change repeated carefully five times, which Kirdy uses to achieve a cumulative effect. So for example, each of the girls moves into the traditional "St. George" position, and the viewer gets all-sex content, but with a maximum of variety. I give Stevens credit for a job well done within the limitations of his admittedly low-grade genre.
Cast is effective, and Kevin James, whose career peak was definitely in TABOO land, takes the male honors.
P.S.: There is a currently "lost" film from 1969 starring Marsha Jordan titled THE DAISY CHAIN, for which Something Weird has a tantalizing coming attraction. It is the only movie featuring the buxom pinup model Lee Germain (many of her loops are currently in circulation on compilation videos). Hopefully it will surface and get a DVD release.
