L. Saigal to signify discipleship. The Ustad wanted to meet the singer alone first, and after an hour, someone checked to find that both, in high spirits, were insisting on calling each other their ustad.

This was revealed by santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, who heard it from music director S. D. Burman, a disciple of top ustads then and an eyewitness, but a more attested incident is of the Ustad, doyen of the Agra Gharana, telling Saigal that he had nothing to teach him that would make him a greater singer.

Acclaimed actor Ashutosh Rana was seen offering prayers at the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh along with his family members. A video of the actor shows him praying in the Nandi Hall at the temple. He is seen dressed in a white kurta-pyjama paired with a dark hued Nehru jacket.

Upon his visit, the 56-year-old actor was greeted by the members of the temple. This is not his first visit; he had previously been to the temple in 2023.

Over a 31-year journey in Hindi cinema, Ashutosh gained recognition with his acting prowess in films such as ‘Dushman’ and ‘Sangharsh’. He was also seen in films such as ‘Ghulam’, ‘Zakhm’, ‘Baadal’ and ‘Raaz’ to name a few.

Mumbai, May 29 (Ians) As her film ‘Dushman’ completed 25 years in Hindi cinema, actress Kajol tagged it as the “scariest film” she has ever done or watched.

Kajol took to Instagram, where she shared few moments from the 1998 film, which was directed by Tanuja Chandra.

Kajol wrote: “#25years to Dushman. One of the scariest films I have ever said yes to or even watched for that matter. #AshutoshRana scared the crap out of me on screen and I’m sure out of all of you guys as well.”

“And a big thanks till today to #PoojaBhatt and #TanujaChandra for making me so comfortable with such an uncomfortable topic. It is still such an uncomfortable film for me to watch! #WomenRock #StillWorking #SanjayDutt #FabFilm.”

Dushman is a psychological thriller film starring Kajol, Sanjay Dutt and Ashutosh Rana. The film is directed by Tanuja Chandra and produced by Mukesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt.

For good measure, Saigal revitalised the ghazal as popular and public form with his rendition of Ghalib, Zauq, Akbar, Arzoo and others and also went on to make recorded film music a lucrative business for music companies.

What was ironic in this that he was rejected twice by HMV in Delhi and Calcutta due to “lack of training” but went to be snapped by a perceptive agent of Hindusthan Records. One record, containing just a bandish “Jhulana jhulao re”, went on to sell a whopping five lakh pieces soon after its release in 1933!

Yet, posterity has not been very kind to him – an autodidact, without any formal training, who became a singing legend of such prowess that even classical singers were in awe of him. He also picked up Bengali so well that Rabindranath Tagore himself gave him permission to render ‘Rabindrasangeet’.

New Delhi, March 28 (Ians) Veteran actress Mandakini recalled her initial days of acting career and how certain times she had to shoot for long hours without getting any breaks.

She added that she loved sharing screen space with all her co-actors and she missed those days.

The 59-year-old actress posted a throwback picture of her on Instagram and wrote in the caption: “I remember those days when I had to wake up early and sometimes we had to shoot till morning.”

Mandakini, who acted with many popular Bollywood actors such as Rajiv Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Aditya Pancholi, Govinda, and many more, added that she enjoyed working with the stars of her time.

“I loved sharing screens with my all co-stars. It was an amazing time,” she added.

Leaving no stone unturned to deliver a chartbusting soundtrack, Balaji has gone ahead and secured the official rights to recreate the original, which had been picturised on Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.

The new track from Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara features Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha and was shot over 6 days on an elaborate set built at Mumbai’s Film City. It has been choreographed by Raju Khan and rendered by Javed Ali. It is expected to go on air before the start of Ramadan.

Imran plays a Muslim (Aslam) for the first time in a track that promises to be his first major ‘mass’ number.

Mumbai, Feb 4: Kajol made her acting debut when she was still in school and after that academics took a back seat. The actress regrets not taking her studies seriously and says she realised its importance late in life.

"I never studied whole heartedly. And after completing my school education, when I started working, I realised the importance of education. I realised what I should have done. According to me, it was my mistake," said the actress who carved a niche for herself with hits like "Baazigar", "Dushman", and "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" after making a tepid start with "Bekhudi" in 1992.

Actor Sanjay Dutt has opted out of Vishesh Films’ next project and will not be seen along side Bhatt camp loyalist Emraan Hashmi

In the month of January Sanjay Dutt confirmed he was a part of Vishesh Film’ next film after Vishesh Films’ Chairman MD Mukesh Bhatt and director Kunal Deshmukh had visited his Pali Hill residence for a meeting. However, Dutt has opted out from the film, citing date issues. A source told us, “Dutt said that he wouldn’t be able to get on board before April 2012. Bhatts want to put Kunal’s film on floors in August. Surely, they can’t wait for additional eight months.”

Sachin Bhowmick

Sachin Bhowmick, one of the most prolific writers of the Hindi film industry breathed his last Tuesday afternoon. The screenwriter who penned over 90 films spanning over 5 decades died of a cardiac arrest after prolonged illness.

Bhowmick started his writing career with Mohan Segal’s Nargis starrer Lajwanti in 1958. His most recent film was Subhash Ghai’s Yuvvraaj in 2008. He has to his credit films like Anuradha (1961), Love in Tokyo (1966), An Evening in Paris (1967), Gol Maal (1979), Karz (1980). More recently, he had written films like Karan Arjun (1995), Dushman (1998), Taal (1999), Koi Mil Gaya (2003) and Krrish (2006). Anuradha, penned by Bhowmick based on his short story and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee won the National Film Award for Best Film.

The writer, 81, died at his Pali Hill residence and was cremated at the Shivaji Park crematorium.

Two-serial-old Ragini Khanna is all set to join the bandwagon of actors who are hopping between film and television. She’s starring in ‘Mare Mere Dushman’ opposite veteran television actor Ninad Kamat.

“This film happened to me before I signed Bhaskar Bharti”, she informs. “It is too early to talk about the film, all I can say is that, it’s a dark comedy and I am playing a simple small-town girl in it”, she reluctantly briefs on the film.
