Did you ever do a soap opera?
About five soap operas were written for me over my lifetime that I know about. I had to turn them all down. I said, "I can't remember those lines. It would kill me." I had to turn them all down. As I turned them down, friends of mine took the parts and within about two weeks most of them were in the hospital. That's how tough it is to go into soap operas. You have to have a phenomenal kind of memory. Jim Drury has one. Barry Sullivan had one. My wife had one. There are many people who are actors, good actors, who have photographic memories. They look at a page and it's, "Okay, let's shoot it". They are literally that fast. I can't do that. So I had to do it the hard way and it was really hard on me.

They were father and son in the movies, too. Sage Moonblood Stallone, who was found dead Friday at age 36, acted with his father Sylvester in one of the elder Stallone's biggest franchises - the Rocky series - playing Rocky Balboa Jr. in Rocky V. Sage, who was 14 when the movie was released in 1990, was "agreeably natural in some scenes, improbable in others," New York Times critic Janet Maslin wrote in her review at the time. In any case, it was Sage's first on-screen taste of Hollywood. And while he would not become a major star in his own right, he...

I love Grindhouse Releasing! They've done several high profile theatrical re-releases for exploitation classics, and they're at it again! This fall will see a limited theatrical release of Bill Lustig's sleaze classic Maniac in several cities across the country, in conjunction with Blue Underground's Blu-ray release of the film. This marks a rare chance to witness Joe Spinell's classic and disturbing performance as the title character, I wouldn't miss it if I were you! I hope it makes its way to my town, that's for sure. Find the details below:
Maniac stars Joe Spinell (Rocky, The Godfather, Taxi Driver) as Frank Zito, a deeply disturbed man haunted by the traumas of unspeakable childhood abuse. When these horrific memories begin to scream inside his mind, Frank prowls the seedy streets of New York City to stalk and slaughter innocent young women. Even as he begins a relationship...

You can scarcely swing a dead cat lately without hitting some kind of best-of-the-decade list (even though, technically, the first decade of the 21st century doesn't end till next year).
Well, here comes another one. Rather than try to construct another best-shows-of-the-'00s list, though -- something that's already been done here, there and everywhere -- I decided to focus on individual episodes from 2000-09. Are these the flat-out "best" episodes of television over the past 10 years? Probably not. But these are the ones that stick with me, that I can still remember not just for brilliant lines or beautifully constructed plots, but for how I actually felt while watching them. They are, simply, my favorites.
Here's my list, in no particular order. What's yours?
"Final Grades" ("The Wire")

A mouse who wants to fly like a bird. An athlete uniting the spirits of a Jamaican neighborhood. A father inviting his daughter in running away from his marriage. Your mouth as it consumes all your wants and needs. These are just some of the subjects being explored by the short films presented at this year’s San Francisco International Festival of Short Films.
With over 60 films and music videos from 19 countries, they are a diverse range of films telling universal stories in live-action, computer animation, stop-motion, documentary and experimental methods.
From the 9th to 12th of September, the Red Vic Movie House in San Francisco plays host to four nights of short films as gathered and programmed by documentary filmmaker James Kenney.
