A plot would have been nice...

I really wish I could sum up this rubbish up in a few sentences, but I can't. It's just not doable. Only movies that have a story can be summarized, no? This movie hasn't got one.

The premise of basing the film on a gypsy character, a musician, has real potential, but it was executed in a completely wrong way. In a pretentious "arty" way. There is zero action here. The scenes appear to be randomly thrown around as if on a pile. Chaos and disorder reign. The enormous laziness of the screenwriter is crystal clear, so I don't understand how he wasn't ashamed to hand this trash over to a director - just as I am puzzled that the director accepted it and started shooting this mess.

But I'm not going to waste my time seeking for the main culprit, which is anyway - 50 years later - completely irrelevant (especially given how forgotten this obscure stinker turned out to be).

If the editor had used the infamous eenie-meenie-miney-moe method, that is, if he had arranged the scenes in ANY other order, nothing, but NOTHING, would have resulted in a more interesting or more boring film. It doesn't matter how you arrange these scenes because they don't build a story no matter how you spin it. There is no hope in this here footage, and the magpie did not eat Burdus's brain, as he says at one point, it did that to the screenwriter and the director.

Because the script is junk. For example, there isn't even a clear timeline, it is impossible to know when something is happening, hence it isn't possible to identify or follow the changes in the relationships between these musicians, which means that the characters cannot be interesting regardless of their potential - in some hypothetical script written by some hypothetical non-existent good screenwriter.

Yup, the script terror strikes again. The old YU movie problem - the cast is good, visually the film looks good, the idea of gypsy musicians is good - if only there was someone to translate all of this potential into an interesting story that make sense.

Considering how disconnected and pointless everything is, the film is (relatively) non-boring. I don't know if this comes off as a compliment or not, but it's a minor miracle that something like this didn't turn out to be a total disaster. Although, it is not far from it either. There are a couple of shticks involving Burdus that indicate potential, but it's all too little.

Besides, who wants to listen to Seka Sabljic shrieking i.e. Singing? I certainly don't. She seems to be enjoying herself but she is probably alone in this.
