The series takes place from 1782 to 1821.
Susannah York - seen here as Maria Fitzherbert - had played Princess Charlotte of Wales in The First Gentleman (1961) a televised broadcast of Norman Ginsbury's bioplay of the Prince Regent (played by Charles Gray).
Although the Prince Regent's friendship and subsequent enmity with Beau Brummell, the man who redefined male fashion in the western world, is one of the most well-known relationships in the life of George IV, the famous Beau Brummell does not appear at any point in this series.
