Frances Farmer was originally cast to star in this feature in an attempt to get her out of Hollywood after her drunk driving arrest in October 1942. Several members of the Group Theatre (with which writer Budd Schulberg had been affiliated) helped to get her to Mexico to shoot the film, but her erratic behavior got her deported and she apparently never shot any scenes for the film. Within a few months she would be institutionalized for the first time.
This film received its initial USA telecast Monday 15 January 1945 on New York City's pioneer television station WNBT (Channel 1).
