UFC champion and professional boxer Conor McGregor just made his acting debut alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the 2024 remake of Road House. Although an exceptional fighter, McGregor has far been receiving mixed reviews from fans and critics.

Yet one thing about his portrayal really stood out among the audience, his nakedness during the initial one minute of his character’s introduction. While McGregor himself accepted it was a bit too much nudity, Mma fans are certainly shocked, to say the least.

There has been a hefty debate in Hollywood as a whole about whether queer characters should only be played by queer actors. Many would argue that an actor being a part of a specific community would help them portray a character better, and allow opportunities to go into the hands of those who hardly ever get it.
Will & Grace
However, some believe that much like giving a good performance as a serial killer does not require an actor to pick up the knife themselves, actors can play whoever they want.

Eric McCormack doesn’t believe an actor’s sexuality should get in the way of the characters they play onscreen. The Will & Grace star said this week he feels “the best person for the role” should be cast in all projects, regardless of the actor’s personal identity.
McCormack, who is straight, played protagonist Will, who is gay, on NBC’s beloved Will & Grace. The actor said during a Monday appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain reported by Out magazine that “I didn’t become an actor so that I could play an actor.”
“There’s no part I’ve ever played where I wasn’t playing something I’m not,” McCormack continued. “It’s part of the gig. And I’ve always said, if gay actors weren’t allowed to play straight actors, Broadway would be over.”

Hunter, Panther and Saracen appeared on Good Morning Britain today (August 17) and revealed which challenge they feared the most during filming.
Here are Gladiators' 12 best games, from Hang Tough to The Wall
Hunter (real name James Crossley) said: "The Pole-Axe was a bit of a dreader, wasn't it? The American Gladiators refused to do it."
Saracen (Mike Lewis) explained: "We had individual poles, and the first one to the top hit a button and the contender falls off. But it was a 40ft free fall."
Crossley described the challenge as a "lose-lose scenario" as even if they won the competition they would still have to fall.

Consider yourselves warned: Piers Morgan will be back on the Good Morning Britain sofa next month.
The controversial broadcaster - who hosted the breakfast show for a week in April - will again fill in for Ben Shephard, who's off on his holidays.
But he'll only be on the programme for three days, from July 13 to July 15.
Morgan had mixed reviews for his time on Good Morning Britain in April, which in his first show saw him compare politician Ed Balls to Darth Vader and laugh off a contributor's swearing.
It seems that Susanna Reid will be pleased to be on the sofa with him again, as she previously suggested that it is a "real privilege" working with Morgan.
On the other hand, someone who probably won't be tuning in to watch is John Cleese, who hit the headlines recently after branding Morgan a "chancer" who "hasn't been talented for...

Doctor Who, Star Trek and more: what happened when sci-fi, horror & fantasy heroes have popped up on British daytime TV over the years…
Pre-YouTube, fandom was a hard-earned thing. It took research, dedication and enough patience to hover over the family video player’s ‘record’ button for an entire episode of TV-am in anticipation of six minutes with Sylvester McCoy. Six minutes in which the Seventh Doctor would be polled if he was a cat or dog person and then asked to taste a lemon roulade.
Scarcity bred desire in those days, so we took what we could get from our heroes of yore, even if that meant watching Hammer Horror legend Ingrid Pitt make a chocolate mousse, or the aforementioned McCoy attempt to answer fan questions above the hubbub of a Nottingham swimming pool complex. The collision of geek icons and UK daytime magazine shows was sometimes illuminating, sometimes excruciating,...

"He was incredibly generous with his time, incredibly warm-hearted, just a lovely man to be around so it's an enormous loss not just on screen but on the planet.
"When we were talking off screen, I did get the feeling at that time that there were highs and lows in his life very much so. It's a...

Dolly Parton revealed in an interview on Good Morning Britain today (June 6) that she is writing a movie about her life.
"I've lived a long time, I've done a lot of stuff - I think there's enough to make a movie and a stage play!" said the iconic country music star.
Although it's early days, we're already pretty pumped for Dolly Parton: The Movie. Dolly in 3D, on IMAX and available on Blu-ray - it's what we've always wanted.
But the big question, of course, is who could possibly step into Dolly's high heels? She might be able to play an older version of herself, but who could possibly take on a young Dolly and pull it off?
A quick survey of the Digital Spy office threw up the suggestions "Christina Hendricks", "Jessica Chastain", "Jennifer Lawrence" and, most worryingly of all, "Jessica Simpson".

Dolly Parton has claimed that the famous Glastonbury mud doesn't scare her, ahead of her debut performance at the iconic British festival this summer.
The country singer will make her Glastonbury debut in the 'golden oldie' slot on the Sunday afternoon, performing on the Pyramid Stage.
Speaking to Good Morning Britain about her preparations for the weekend, she laughed: "I grew up in a mud hole! I grew up on a farm, [there was] worse stuff than mud that we had to walk around in the barnyard - so we're used to all that!"
"I won't be in the mud, will I? I'll probably wear my galoshes up to the stage… but I'm going to sing in my high heels - mud or no mud!"

Judging a breakfast show on its ratings alone is always dangerous.
Watching breakfast TV is a habit and it has to fit into our busy morning schedules, so a slight change to the format can mean that our 10-minute breakfast break with our corn flakes and the telly suddenly coincides with the weather and we'll probably switch channels or even switch off altogether.
Viewers look for familiarity, comfort and something easily digestible in the mornings. BBC Breakfast has nailed all three of these traits over the last five years and for that reason, ITV has been floundering to match them in the early morning ratings war.
GMTV had grown tired and grey, and Daybreak was an ugly explosion of colour and dreadful decisions. The channel's latest attempt to wrestle back viewers, Good Morning Britain, opened with lukewarm reviews one month ago and the ratings have been dropping ever since.
But are the problems terminal?...

Okay, so we might not be wearing our gladrags and we might not be sipping champagne, but who says a onesie and a takeaway can't be glamorous?
It's BAFTA night, and while we're not at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane with all the best and brightest from the last year of television, at least we can join the party from our sofas. Yep, we'll be blogging along with the awards - which start at 8pm on BBC One - so grab your slippers and a cuppa and join in by tweeting @digitalspy and leaving your comments below...
And as a reminder, the awards actually start in "real life" at 7pm - but we'll be doggedly going along with the television broadcast and pretending we're not an hour behind everyone else, so there's no fear of spoilers. If you want things as they happen, we'll be updating our winners' list here.

Well, it's definitely better than Daybreak.
It might not be the highest praise ever heaped on a breakfast TV show, but ITV's big cheeses will probably be breathing a sigh of relief this afternoon that they haven't found themselves another laughable turkey.

Despite numerous revamps and hosts, Daybreak was doomed from its opening show, which failed to match the hype and was an uncomfortable hybrid of its predecessor GMTV, ITV's fierce rival BBC Breakfast and most oddly of all, The One Show.
Good Morning Britain's launch has, deliberately, been much more low key. The tabloids have been fed some quotes from Susanna Reid and her poaching from the BBC gave the Daily Mail plenty more reasons to ogle at her "pins", but the show hasn't suffered from the same pre-debut hullabaloo...

ITV launched its latest attempt in the breakfast TV war earlier today (April 28), with Good Morning Britain landing on our screens.
Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins co-hosted the brand new format, following Daybreak's end on Friday. But how well did they fare?
Most of the early reviews appear to be largely positive, with most people commenting on its similarity with Us morning show Good Morning America. Digital Spy has compiled a round-up of reviews and reactions from around the web below:

Goodbye Daybreak. Good morning, erm, Good Morning Britain.
ITV's latest attempt to revive their breakfast schedules and make a dent in the ratings of their fierce rivals at BBC Breakfast comes in the shape of four familiar faces from morning television.
Sky's Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins, former GMTV host and all round good egg Ben Shephard and the star attraction, who ITV no doubt hope is the jewel in their crown, Susanna Reid.
Poached from the BBC and fresh from a successful run on Strictly Come Dancing, ITV are hoping she's the perfect mix of sharp journalism and warm presenting. Just don't say the words Christine or Bleakley.
Will Good Morning Britain be ITV breakfast's biggest hit since Roland Rat? Or have we got another Daybreak disaster on our hands?
From 6am on Monday (April 28) morning we'll be live-blogging the launch and trying to avoid dropping ketchup from our bacon sandwich on our keyboard.

ITV's morning show Daybreak aired its final edition this morning (April 25).
Aled Jones co-hosted the final instalment with Kate Garraway, ahead of the launch of Good Morning Britain on Monday.
Good Morning Britain co-host Ben Shephard also joined the presenters to show viewers the set of his upcoming show.
"Good luck to Ben and the whole team actually," said Jones. "I'll be watching definitely."
Jones will begin hosting his new ITV morning show Weekend tomorrow at 8.30am. It will also air on Sundays at the same time.
Garraway added: "We don't have to miss you at all, do we? We don't have to get lovey dovey or anything."
The pair then embraced for a hug, before saying goodbye to the show for good.
Daybreak launched back in 2010, with hosts Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles. However, due to disappointing ratings, it was revamped in 2012 with new hosts Lorraine Kelly and Jones.

ITV has confirmed the departure of Daybreak's third boss in three years.
Editor Karl Newton has left his position after less than a year in the position. He oversaw the breakfast show's new look with presenters Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones last year.
However, the show has continued to struggle in the ratings against rival BBC Breakfast.
Earlier this week, the programme was seen by only 700,000 viewers, less than a third of the BBC's audience. Newton will be replaced temporarily by Neil Thompson.
Newton said that he is "pleased to be leaving Daybreak having helped the programme turn a corner and having returned the breakfast format to its journalistic roots, with politics, exclusives and popular investigative content".
Last year, former Channel 5 news editor David Kermode left the editor position on the show, having taken over from Ian Rumsey in 2011.
Daybreak replaced GMTV back in September 2010 with Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley as presenters.

Tributes have been paid to Sir David Frost, who has died suddenly at the age of 74.

With his bon mots, irrepressible bonhomie and ease with the A-listers, Mr Rat soon turned the ailing viewing figures of ITV's breakfast show from 100,000 to 1.8 million, and was seen as the "only rat to join the sinking ship" of TV-am.
Watch: Five Of Roland Rat's Best Moments, Including Silencing Adrian Chiles...
With his pals Errol the Hamster, Kevin the Gerbil and ladyfriend Glenys the Guinea Pig,...

TV-am's Mike Morris has died at the age of 65. Morris, who hosted the Good Morning Britain segment of the ITV breakfast strand, passed away on Sunday (October 21). It is believed that he died after a short illness. Lorraine Kelly led the tributes to her former colleague on ITV breakfast show Daybreak this morning (October 23), saying: "He was a nice guy. Really funny, really good at his job, very very underrated because he never made a fuss, just got on with it. He really made it look easy, I think that was the thing about Mike... our thoughts are with his family this morning, of course." Kelly also thanked Daybreak's viewers for their messages of condolence. Morris started his career in print media and worked for organisations including Aap Reuters in Australia. He moved into broadcasting in the late 1970s with Thames News, (more)...

Aled Jones and Lorraine Kelly's launch show for the new-look Daybreak has had a frosty reception from fans online. The duo began their tenure as hosts of the troubled ITV1 breakfast TV franchise yesterday (September 3), but fans have already begun calling for former presenters Dan Lobb and Kate Garraway to be reinstalled. Lobb and Garraway filled in as hosts of the show after original presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley were axed in 2011. A huge number of viewers have taken to the Daybreak Facebook page to criticise the show's overhaul, which many have compared to previous ITV breakfast show GMTV. One viewer said: "It looks like TV-am threw up all over the Daybreak set, and then kidnapped the presenters of GMTV." Jenny Cheney wrote: "We want Dan and Kate back - it was a winning (more)...

Dawn French has hit back at Anne Diamond's suggestion that she may have had a gastric band. Diamond said in an open letter to French published in the press last month that while the comedian had made an "astonishing transformation" by losing weight, an "obesity surgeon" had told the former TV-am presenter that "the easiest way to guarantee [that] sort of dramatic and consistent weight is to have a gastric band or a gastric bypass". The comedienne has since insisted that she lost "a lot more" than the six stone Diamond estimated, and put the weight loss down to healthy eating and walking. Speaking on a Radio 2 French and Saunders special to be aired tomorrow, (more)...

New DVD celebrates the 80s heyday of video nasties - a genre that didn't quite corrupt the nation's youth … or its dogs
Hard to believe now, but back in the early 1980s Britain was under attack. A sustained attack from a foe more insidious and corrupting than anything that had assailed our shores before; a demonic force that destroyed our mental health, that could deprave all who came into contact with it. Highly scientific studies proved beyond all doubt the peril we were all in, especially our children and even our pets. This was the menace that came from something called a "Video Nasty".
There are two things you should know about that opening paragraph: firstly, everything in it was at one time believed by our leaders of the day (yes, even the bit about pets). And second, they were completely wrong on every count. It was a shameful period in our recent history,...

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Airplane!, and the free DVD you're going to get in next Saturday's Guardian, here are 30 facts on Shirley the mother of all movie spoofs ...
1 Airplane! is a remake of a 1957 TV movie called Zero Hour!
2 The "food-poisoning on a plane" plot and many of the lines were lifted straight from the original.
3 They bought the rights to Zero Hour! so that's Ok.
4 Zero Hour! was written by Arthur Hailey, who went on to write the hugely successful Airport book/movie franchise which Airplane! spoofs so mercilessly.
5 Thus Hailey is credited as a writer of a movie that basically takes the piss out of his own work.
6 Airplane! was the fourth highest-grossing movie of 1980 in the Us, and the highest-grossing comedy in history until Ghostbusters.
7 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who played co-pilot Roger Murdock, is the highest-scoring NBA basketball player of all time, with 38,387 points.

Ulrika Jonsson re-entered the Bb house tonight and embarked on a series of Ultimate Big Brother.
Ulrika shot to fame as a TV-am weather girl and moved on to being the presenter of Gladiators and as part of the show Shooting Stars.
The Swedish TV presenter won the 2009 series of Celebrity Big brother with 57 % of the vote. She survived the public vote on five occasions.
Tonight Ulrika admitted that she hoped to be cooped up with Nadia Almada, which is lucky because the Portuguese transsexual entered just before her but admitted that she’d rather not have to live with that ‘bast*rd’ John McCrirrick. Whoops!
Do you think Ulrika can win for the second time? Leave your comments below.

Top Gun, the Smiths, The A-Team … popular culture reached its height in the 1980s – didn't it? Toby Litt on a decade he hated at the time, but is reluctantly starting to admire
There's a fantastically annoying ad on Spotify at the moment for yet another Hits of the 80s compilation CD. Voiceover man hails "the decade that just won't die" – which is true, even though, along with a large number of like-minded people, I spent most of the 80s doing my best to kill them. But with shoulder pads and bad prints being the order of the day summer-fashion-wise, with Wire magazine championing a genre of music they call "hypnagogic pop" ("it refashions 80s chart pop-rock into a hazy, psychedelic drone") and with the release of two blockbusting remakes on the same day – The Karate Kid and The A-Team – it seems that the 80s zombie everpresence is being reaffirmed, in pop culture and,...
