The artful swindler and owner of a Greek-British mining company, Mr John, has set his sights on an open pasture rich in ore deposits that belongs to a gullible young villager; the God-fearing, Ilarios. To succeed in his cause, Mr John hires the cunning Danai and her beautiful daughter, Mina, as well as the street-wise but seemingly pious preacher, Kosmas, who--under the pretence of following the will of the nonexistent holy man, Saint Valadios--try to rob Ilarios of his land. Before long, the first miracle will convince the non-believers of the saint's grace; nevertheless, an unforeseen romance threatens to put in jeopardy the whole operation. Could the saint be real after all?
