Marilyn Chambers is one of the iconic names in the erotic film industry. Along with other names such as Linda Lovelace (Deep Throat) and Bambi Woods (Debbie Does Dallas) Marilyn Chambers brought adult movies out of the shadows and into the main stream of movie making. Some people say it should have stayed in the shadows but times change and what happened has happened.
Sextrospective is a compilation of clips from movies in which Miss Chambers has featured, woven together in a plot in which she is asked to produce an erotic movie. The star of this movie is to be Barbara Joyce who gets last minute nerves, so it is up to Miss Chambers, by means of the video clips to show her how exciting and fun erotic movies are and so change her mind.
The acting performances from the main leads seem exaggerated, as if they are trying too hard, but then convincing acting has never been a prerequisite in the adult movie business. The video clips are probably the most frustrating aspects of this movie. They each last for only a couple of minutes at most and are almost always shown in slow motion. Whether the original movies were also slow motion is unknown. The best clip is entitled Two Girls Cooking. It is shown mostly at normal speed but it suffers the occasional go slow.
Overall, this movie is a disappointment. If it was meant to generate interest in Marilyn Chambers' previous movies, then for me it has failed. As a stand-alone it could have been so much better and so I have rated it only one star.
