Max’s Ted Turner documentary series likes itself some Ted Turner. The trailer for the new docuseries “Call Me Ted” selects a few phrases to shower the media mogul with praise: “Mogul,” “Adventurer,” “Rebel,” “Risk Taker,” “Showman,” “Philanthropist,” and “Genius.”

But it’s not just the filmmakers who had glowing words about Turner, who is 85. His ex-wife Jane Fonda in trailer called him a “legend” and an “American hero”; U2 frontman Bono said Turner was “way more rock and roll than I am.”

Probably right around here we should point out that Max and the Turner cable channels (like TBS and TNT) share a parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery. Turner has been a part of all the Warner Bros. iterations since 1996; HBO was part of Time Warner. Ted Turner himself though left the business about 20 years ago.

“Call Me Ted” takes audiences back to 1980 when Turner founded CNN, the first 24-hour cable news channel.

Say what you will, the trailer-makers sure know their target audience. And that's not the same crowd that would go check out what's usually referred to in the U.S. media as “faith” (i.e., Christian) movies. Photo: Warner Home Video An immaculate and beautiful presentation wrapped in a red velvet box, Warner Home Video's 70th Anniversary Blu-ray release of Gone With the Wind is a must for any avid film fan or Gone With the Wind fanatic, and I can only assume all of us know one or more of the latter and are obviously all members of the former. Not only is the packaged presentation some of the best I have seen from the studio, the film itself has never looked better and I can't imagine it ever will, at least not on home video.

When it comes to Blu-ray high-definition we are really getting down to the true essence of today's films and when we're talking about restoring a 70-year-old film onto the new media, one of my primary concerns was the expectation of too much grain, primarily in the lavish colors. Fortunately...

Chicago – The Warner Brothers Blu-Ray release to mark the 70th anniversary of the beloved “The Wizard of Oz” is perhaps the most exhaustive and complete “Collector’s Edition” release to date. Warner Brothers, a studio that knows how to treat their classics, releasing gigantic sets for “Blade Runner” and “Casablanca” in recent years and with another for “Gone With the Wind” coming soon, has done it again, and arguably better than ever.

As for the film itself, what more could possibly be written about “The Wizard of Oz”? By some standards, it’s the most watched movie in world history, a film that has transcended its genre to simply become a part of the history of the planet.
