The film starts with a superb music and continue with the high acting class recitals of Jean Carmet and Bernard Blier, both brilliant actors, two sacred monsters. Subtle innuendo, comic dialogue, original. Perhaps because I'm from Romania(younger sister of France) myself, I prefer the French cinema to the American cinema. Just think that in recent years, out of ideas, Americans have made many remakes after French films, starting with Breathless(1983) after À bout de Souffle(1960) of Godard, 3 Men and a Baby(1987) after 3 hommes et un couffin(1985) of Coline Serreau, True Lies(1994) after La total! (1991) of Claude Zidi, The Birdcage(1996) after La Cage aux Folles (1978) of Edouard Molinaro, The Assassin(1993) after Nikita (1990) of Luc Besson, Diabolique(1996) after Les Diaboliques (1955) of H.G. Clouzot, The Man Who Loved Women(1983) after The Man Who Loved Women (1977) of François Truffaut, The Man with One Red Shoe(1985) after The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe(1972) of Yves Robert, these being only a few American remakes of the highest grossing French films, I'll keep the list in another review for another French film. To return to Kisses Till Monday (1974), in my opinion, this one can not be made an American remake, would not have that specific French humor, the typical salt and pepper. In short, the American "shit" does not have the same taste as the French "merde". Maria Pacôme is also very good. Not less, Michel Bouquet, another sacred monster of the French screen, in a scene far too short of the bar. Julien Guiomar is also remarkable. And Evelyne Buyle! It's a dialogue film, not for those who love Captain America... Enjoy!
