Written especially for Regina Duarte, the main plot of was based on Samuel A. Taylor's play "Sabrina Fair" (1953).
Regina Duarte was pregnant, during the production, with Gabriela Duarte, who became an actress as well. Mother and daughter would eventually work together in Por Amor (1997) and in the miniseries Chiquinha Gonzaga (1999). Regina had previously been pregnant with her first son André while making Irmãos Coragem (1970).
This was one of the first telenovelas with scenes shot abroad, and Globo TV was the first Brazilian broadcaster to use portable electronic cameras in its productions, although the images were still in black and white.
This was the last telenovela in which Regina Duarte was romantically paired with Claudio Marzo. The previous ones were Véu de Noiva (1969), Irmãos Coragem (1970) and Minha Doce Namorada (1971).
