Saramandaia is another great series from the genius Dias Gomes. The story is about a city where many fantastic things happen. It has a werewolf; a man whose heart literally goes up to his mouth; a winged baby, and other unbelievable things. It was a characters story, so people still recall them after all these years.
The main plot is about two beverage companies that economical and politically ruled a countryside town. The place, formerly known as Bole-bole, name of one of the companies, had it changed, by popular voting, to Saramandaia, the name of its rival. It was the very first time I watched fantastic actor Antônio Fagundes. By that time, I didn't like him because his character, Lua Viana, which was pretty cheesy. Of course, time proved I was wrong about mr. Fagundes' acting skills. It was very good to see beautiful and classy late Dina Sfat as a northeastern boarding house owner. I confess I still miss her sometimes. Americans like fantasy movies, so I recommend Saramandaia for all those guys who like to see the strange and the exotic.
