From 1999 to 2006, Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing raged as one of the best serial political drama shows of all time, amusing audiences worldwide with its outstanding plotline as it brought about Martin Sheen’s President Josiah Bartlet and his administration’s ways of tackling multiple political issues to maintain peace and harmony in the nation.

The third season of Fox’s game show The Floor kicked off immediately following Super Bowl Lix between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Hosted by Rob Lowe, The Floor invites 100 contestants to compete against each other in a series of head-to-head duels, with a randomizer selecting players who then challenge someone standing next to them. Each person arrives at The Floor with a category in which they consider themselves to be an expert — things like Pantry Items, Tony Winners, and Marvel. The ultimate winner after 12 episodes will claim the $250,000 grand prize.
Lowe had fun with the crowd by pretending to be heartbroken over the fact that he’d “never” attended the Met Gala and “never” been named People‘s Sexiest Man Alive. But don’t feel too bad for him. After all, Lowe is an Emmy nominee for The West Wing (2001) and a six-time Golden Globe nominee...

Park and Recreations‘ approach to mockumentary was pretty reminiscent of Steve Carell’s The Office, which wasn’t surprising. Not only did both shows revolve around workplace humor, featuring ensemble casts, but the former was initially conceived as a direct spin-off to The Office.

Although this plan was eventually dropped, apart from The Office‘s noticeable influence, one Rob Lowe show, which isn’t exactly synonymous with comedy, contributed to the creation of Parks and Recreation.

Warner Bros. Discovery may not be ready to launch a free ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) service of its own just yet, but the company is on the lookout for ways to boost its digital ad revenue. Its latest tactic is to add free movies to YouTube. Wbd has put more than 30 full-length films on the social video platform to stream at no cost, as long as you don’t mind putting up with a few commercials.
Key Details: Movies featuring Kevin Bacon, Chevy Chase, Robert De Niro, and other stars are streaming free on YouTube. Exclusive: How is this for meta casting — Bradley Whitford has been tapped for a recurring role opposite his former The West Wing co-star Allison Janney on the Netflix political thriller drama series The Diplomat, Deadline has learned. What’s more, the two West Wing-ers are headed back to the White House, with Whitford playing the First Gentleman to Janney’s President on the show created and executive produced by The West Wing alumna Debora Cahn, I hear. In her documentary “Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore,” the star continues to explore the at times lonesome space she has occupied since bursting on the scene in 1986: that of being a representative for deaf people, and being herself. For more than three decades, Matlin was the only deaf performer to have won an Oscar, and among the few to have what could be considered a mainstream acting career. That changed when Troy Kotsur, her co-star in the 2021 Oscar-winning drama “Coda,” took home the prize for best supporting actor.
At 19, Matlin was cast opposite William Hurt in the adaptation of the play “Children of a Lesser God.” She portrayed Sarah Norman, a janitor in a school for the deaf. Hurt’s character is a speech teacher. She resists speaking. He says he won’t push her to speak but then does. After production, Hurt became Matlin’s romantic partner. So,...

First, manage your expectations: This bio-documentary doesn’t reveal much that its subject, the actor Marlee Matlin, hasn’t already discussed — particularly in her own 2009 memoir I’ll Scream Later, in which she frankly addressed her struggles with addiction, sexual abuse experienced in childhood, and alleged violence at the hands of early boyfriend, the actor William Hurt.
But Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore does offer an engaging, exuberant portrait of the relentlessly likeable Matlin as she enters her 60s, having achieved a substantial amount in career terms — from being the first deaf actor to win an Academy Award for her lead turn in Children of a Lesser God, to advocating before the U.S. Congress that closed captions be mandatory, and generally being a voice, in every sense, for the deaf community.
In fact, as the film explains in one of its most interesting passages, she took flack from some...

Documentaries and docuseries from three top streaming services took home honors at the duPont-Columbia Awards this week.
The Golden Globes and the Academy Awards may steal all the attention at this time of year, but they aren’t the only prestigious awards shows honoring media. The duPont-Columbia Awards, broadcast journalism’s equivalent to Pulitzer Prizes, were handed out on Wednesday, and there were some big names in streaming among the honorees. Max, Netflix, and Paramount+ all won awards, while some major traditional news outlets were conspicuously left off the list of winners.
Key Details: The duPont-Columbia Awards are handed out by the respected Columbia Journalism School. “Murder in Boston” by Max, “Birthing a Nation” by Paramount+, and “You Are Not Alone” by Netflix have all won awards. ABC, CBS, CNN, and NBC all went home empty-handed. Sign Up $9.99+ / month max via prime video

The suit is now clear to move to the discovery phase after a key ruling went Warner Bros. Discovery’s way.
Warner Bros. Discovery isn’t letting Paramount skate over what it alleges was a breach of contract. The two legacy media companies are battling in court over the streaming rights to “South Park,” and the case will move forward after a denial of a motion by Paramount for a partial summary judgment to dismiss some claims. The legal fight will continue, and there’s a decent chance the case will end up in front of a jury before all is said and done.
Key Details: Justice Margaret A. Chan of the State Supreme Court in Manhattan said that Wbd’s claims against Paramount can go to the discovery phase in a recent ruling. The ruling may allow Wbd to get its hands on subscriber and profitability metrics from Paramount+.

Ever since Dev Patel made his on-screen debut at the age of 17 on the E4 British teen drama "Skins," he's been a consistent presence in film and television. Born in the United Kingdom to Gujarati parents, Patel has consistently redefined what it means to be an Indian actor working in Hollywood, whether it involves championing the types of stories that rarely get told in American and British cinema, or expanding the breadth of roles that casting directors often put them in consideration for. Over the course of his career, he's earned an Academy Award nomination and took home a BAFTA, the highest film honor in his native England.
To be perfectly honest, Patel doesn't really have a lot of stinkers to his name (the dire live-action production of "The Last Airbender" from M. Night Shyamalan notwithstanding). So, when we look at his career highlights, we're looking at good-to-great films, unlike...
