Original Criminal Minds cast members Kirsten Vangsness and A.J. Cook have sealed new deals to stay on as Penelope Garcia and “Jj” Jareau.

After costars Joe Mantegna and Matthew Gray Gubler re-signed for the fall, Vangsness and Cook held out for salary parity with the latter, our sister site Deadline reports, and emerged from their negotiations “essentially on par” with Gubler.
The actresses’ deals come on the heels of the news that Damon Gupton was not asked back for Season 13, after less than a full season as Agent Stephen Walker.

Comic Con hasn’t been strictly superheroes in a long, long time. We have scoured the schedule for this year’s event and have pulled out the dark, the bloody, the monstrous, and the ghostly panels that look to be right up FEARnet readers’s alley.
Paranormal Passion Panel
Authors discuss the inclusion of romantic elements in their action-packed novels. Protagonists must battle the forces of evil while trying to keep the world (and often their lovers) safe from destruction. Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy leads a discussion with Comic-Con special guest Christine Feehan (The Dark Series), Claudia Gray (Spellcaster), Aprilynne Pike (Earthbound), Lauren Kate (The Fallen Novels), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess), and Magnus Flyte (City of Dark Magic).

There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.
Horror fans will have a lot of choices to make as the "Bates Motel" panel battles the one-two punch of Godzilla and Seventh Son. Later in the day you'll be faced with choosing to learn more about "True Blood," Telltale's The Walking Dead video game, or "Being Human." Right now 20th Century Fox's presentation that runs at the same time remains "To Be Announced," but once details are revealed, we'll provide an update.
Other panels vying for your attention throughout the day are "The Originals," "Grimm," I, Frankenstein teamed with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that combination should make for some interesting audience reactions), a look at gameplay from Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, more games, comics,...

"Man of Steel" and "The Tudors" star Henry Cavill has reportedly entered talks to take on the lead role of Napoleon Solo in Guy Ritchie's "Man From U.N.C.L.E" film adaptation at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Tom Cruise was previously attached to play Solo, but departed the troubled project the other day. He followed in the footsteps of George Clooney who was also attached to the role back when Steven Soderbergh was slated to direct.
Rather than let the project fall apart again, the studio has moved quickly to insert Cavill into the hole vacated by Cruise.
If he signs, Cavill would co-star with Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander in the story of two agents - an American (Cavill) and a Russian (Hammer) - who work for a secret international espionage and law-enforcement agency named U.N.C.L.E.

Joe Mantegna isn't concerned about baseball-oriented minds denting "Criminal Minds" too badly.
The veteran actor's long-running CBS crime drama airs a new episode Wednesday (Oct. 24) -- with guest star Ray Wise ("Reaper") as a fearsome doctor -- opposite Game 1 of the World Series on Fox. "My feeling is that we'll get low numbers in San Francisco and Detroit," Mantegna reasons to Zap2it of the cities whose teams are in this year's Fall Classic. "I'm not so worried about the rest of the country.
"One thing about our fan base is that they're very, very loyal, almost rabid in the sense that they really are into the show. They watch the repeats in syndication, and they're just very supportive, so we'll always have that group. We've gone up against 'American Idol,' and the World Series is nothing compared to going against that. We'll see. They may outdraw us tonight,...

Back in April, we brought you the first word on "Black Sky," the upcoming comic and "illustrated film" project in the works from "Welcome to Hoxford" and "Choker" creator (and "30 Days of Night" co-creator) Ben Templesmith.
Today we have a trio of exclusive images from the project that debuted during the Halo-8 panel in Comic-Con.
Directed by Matt Pizzolo, "Black Sky" is a post-apocalyptic story described as "'Band of Brothers' vs. 'Cthulhu.'" Planned as both a comic and an illustrated film produced by Halo-8, "Black Sky" is expected to debut this Fall.
Here's the official info from Halo-8's Comic-Con panel:

Last September we brought you the news of a planned Criminal Minds spin-off and today the new series takes a giant leap forward as sources close to the show say that they’re close to signing Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker in the starring role.
Whitaker’s character is named Cooper and will be in the Mandy Patinkin/Joe Mantegna role as the new team leader. His character description reads as follows,
A former star profiler in the Bau, Coop’s been off the grid for the last eight years — leaving only a trail of rumors in his wake.
Hmm… his character sounds awfully similar to David Rossi (Joe Mantegna). I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but it does make me wonder what’s going on over there in the Bau because it seems like all their best people go crazy and leave.
As we previously reported, the...

At the end of Criminal Minds last season, the Bau was searching for a serial killer called “The Reaper.” “The Reaper” forced the team from Detroit to Canada in an attempt to apprehend him, but he continued to elude all attempts from the Bau and ultimately attacks Morgan (Shemar Moore), stealing his credentials. As the season finale concluded, we were left with Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) standing face to face with “The Reaper” and as the episode faded to black, we were left with a singular sound; a gunshot.
Join us as I recap the season 5 premiere for criminal minds…

With the Fall season starting, we, once again, get a slew of new and returning shows - So many that it’s impossible to watch everything. I have a DVR and even with my nerdy television calculations (Yes, I do have them), I can’t figure out how to watch everything.
Let’s break this down to see what’s on tonight and whether or not it’s worth watching.
What’s New?
NBC: 8pm - Mercy
Mercy is about a whip-smart nurse (that’s not me, that’s straight out of the press release), Veronica Callahan, who has just returned to work at Mercy Hospital after a tour of service in Iraq. She’s not afraid to bend the rules to save her patients, but her outspoken attitude might wind up costing her job. (that’s my favorite part. “she’s not afraid to bend the rules”)

Chicago – The DC Universe brand of straight-to-dvd titles has worked its way through Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Justice League and settled on Green Lantern, never a favorite character of this old school superhero fan and the first real misfire in the DC Universe line.
DVD Rating: 2.5/5.0 In 2007, Warner Brothers and DC started releasing a series of PG-13 animated, full-length feature films with a surprisingly artistically successful franchise of films. “Superman: Doomsday” started the line, followed by the excellent “Justice League: The New Frontier” (easily the best of the franchise to date) and very good “Batman: Gotham Knight” in 2008. This year has given us the so-so “Wonder Woman” and now the very disappointing “Green Lantern: First Flight,” a release that not only falls below the franchise standard in film quality but DVD presentation as well.
Green Lantern: First Flight was released on DVD on July 28th, 2009.

To end my first night covering the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con, I attended a screening of DC Universe’s latest animated feature, Green Lantern: First Flight. With buzz on the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Green Lantern building fast, Green Lantern: First Flight will likely be an early barometer of the public’s interest in the character.
So was the film any good?
I gotta say: Gf:fl is not DC Universe’s best. I was actually a little bit let down on all fronts - the story, the dialogue, the animation quality, even the sound effects - which is a shame, because I came to the screening with nothing but high hopes after seeing the wonder feature-length Wonder Woman animated film early this year at the New York Comic-Con.

There’s a brand new trailer and a new release date for DC Universe’s next animated feature, Green Lantern: First Flight. The trailer looks pretty epic, and if anything, should serve as a good blueprint for the upcoming live-action Green Lantern movie, which is still in the casting stages.

Not bad, right?
Green Lantern: First Flight is the re-imagined origin story of Silver Age Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. The film will mainly be set in space, and will feature all sorts of aliens and intergalactic battles and all kinds of crazy power-ring creations (as you can see from the trailer).

I know some of you have given up on network television. At times I don’t blame you. For those of you who still have a wee bit of faith, anticipation, or hope in network programming - or even plan on patiently waiting for shows to hit DVD, then this endeavor is for you. I gave a brief overview of the upcoming TV season a couple of months ago, but this right here is the big kahuna.
