Die Dollarprinzessin as with all operetta is one well worth listening to with beautiful music(even if there are other operettas with music more memorable than here). This film version of Die Dollarprinzessin has its fun and charm, but on the other side of the coin it is not going to please everybody. While the orchestra play the music absolutely wonderfully, the re-arranging and trimmings are not going to be to everybody's tastes, some passages do come across as too Broadway-ish, an effect I found jarring with everything else. Likewise the dances do look as though they were professionally performed and choreographed with efficiency, but some of it does have that again jarring Americanised effect. However, the film does look very handsome, a couple of moments of awkward editing aside, with sumptuous costuming and settings. There is plenty of fun and charm to be had in the drama and how the film is directed, and there is even a Western brawl which was most entertaining. The cast are just great with not a weak link, they are attractive, they sing beautifully and act in a way that makes you like the characters. So all in all, may disappoint some people but others new to the operetta or don't mind any changes will find plenty to enjoy. I personally can see definitely why some will not like it, but at the same it is very easy to see why others will do so. As you can see, I did like it but it isn't something I'd watch over and over. 7/10 Bethany Cox
