Pamela Loo Mayer dies aged 52
Run Run Shaw
The film sales and theatrical booking agent and grand-daughter of Run Run Shaw died on Friday night (August 15) at her home in Calabasas, California, following a long illness. She was 52.

Mayer, whose father was the late philanthropist Paul Loo, began her career in the industry in 1984 as a Booker for UA Theaters in 1984.

In 2006 she launched Wildcat Releasing and distributed such films as Tortilla Heaven.

“I do not think there is anyone who could not like Pam, she really was a ‘Wildcat’ in her approach to life and the energy she put into the marketing and distribution of films,” said long-time associate and business partner Tc Rice.

“Pam was the most generous-hearted and giving person I have ever had the privilege to know,” said Nigel Sarrag, a close friend. “We were best friends. She was always there when you needed a friend.

“She had a smile and a kind word for everyone and her acceptance of people...

Story teamed up again with composer Christopher Lennertz for the film’s score.

He first made a splash with his breakout score for Alvin And The Chipmunks, which has grossed over $360 million worldwide. Since then he’s proven his steadfast talent with films like the star-studded Horrible Bosses, and Universal’s box office smash Ride Along.

Lennertz’s other recent scores include the hit comedy Identity Thief and the critically acclaimed drama Thanks For Sharing with Mark Ruffalo & Gwyneth Paltrow.

While his knack for comedy is undeniable in films like Think Like A Man, he’s also contributed his unique...

Indie 'Conquest' re-enters U.S.
"The Other Conquest" (La Otra Conquista), a Mexican film about the Aztecs' struggle against the Spanish conquerors in the 16th century, is getting a second chance at a theatrical release -- seven years after its first bowed theatrically in the U.S.

Indie distributor Union Station Media, the new joint venture between Canada's Alliance Atlantis Motion Picture Distribution and Australia's Arclight Films, will rerelease the film May 4 on 50 screens in Texas, Nevada and Fresno, Calif., as well as in New Mexico. On May 11, it will open in New York and go wider in Texas, moving on in subsequent weeks to markets where there is a significant Hispanic population. There are no plans to play the film in Los Angeles, where it appeared during its first release.

Written and directed by Salvador Carrasco and produced by Alvaro Domingo, the film stars Damian Delgado ("Men With Guns"), Elpidia Carrillo ("Tortilla Heaven"), Jose Carlos Rodriguez and Inaki Aierra. Placido Domingo is executive producer and is featured on the soundtrack singing an aria composed for the movie.
